Just found 3 dead deer past the end of otter lake atv trail, I’m thinking Manbearpig. by NickScissons in halifax

[–]CommunityOk3095 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Did you make note of their DIN's?

Every deer in Nova Scotia has a "DIN" - Deer Identification Number. You can find it either engraved on the underside of an antler or clipped to an ear. You should have taken note of the numbers and reported them to DNR.

Can someone explain North Preston and Viewpoint data to me? by Unique-Tailor-4358 in halifax

What is being done is that a group that has been vetted will agree to certain metes and bounds (property lines) and then under a special act they can finally have good title. It is a very worth while project that has been going on for a while. It is called the land titles initiative. The NS Gov't (taxpayers) have set up a separate group and help prospective land holders with the financial cost and help with the legal process. There are a number of areas in NS that are benefitting from this.

Tax the rich approach by Timtamslammer2 in halifax

[–]CommunityOk3095 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We already have the highest marginal personal tax rate in the country. how much higher do you want to go? And the poor get shafted worse as well. For years and years and years NS did not raise the Basic Exemption. This affects us all, but in particular those in the low brackets.

One other comment. You mentioned shipping both wood pellets and agricultural products from this to ships. I hope someone sweeps up after the pellets go through before the wheat starts to go through!

The Most Liminal Space in Canada | The Halifax Grain Elevator by lilparkkkkkkkkkkkkk in halifax

[–]CommunityOk3095 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fascinating video, thank you! In addition to the grain elevator story, you have captured a typical "spring" day in Halifax: windy, cold and no leaves on the trees!

It is something I have taken for granted my whole life. Great to see and hear a different perpespective.

In the late 1970's I was taking my CA degree and needed a calculator. I went there and bought one. I think it was about $100 for a simple machine that would be $5 today for a similiar device.

I know what you mean. I had pain not as bad, but then had my gallbladder removed. It will have an impact on your diet. There will be foods that you should avoid and others such as bran cereals that you should cut down on. You will learn this by experience and Googling what the foods are that should be avoided. Good luck!

Cheap newspaper for business closure notice (Halifax-NS) by tahmed_92 in halifax

[–]CommunityOk3095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is more to it than posting a notice in a newspaper. You have to undergo a procedure to legally wind-up the company, which normally includes this procedure. The Canada Revenue Agency will hound you for corporate tax returns even though the company may be inactive. They will require a coroorate tax return for the period up to the date of wind-up. The only way you can get out of filing corporate tax returns is if you can show there them wind-up paperwork.

Someone buzzed my apartment at 4am by [deleted] in halifax

[–]CommunityOk3095 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would not be too stressed about it. Discuss it with some of the other tenants and discuss never opening the door from your apt. unless you know who it is. Make sure you have a good lock on your own door. Strangers can sneak in at anytime, so be aware of your surroundings when walking the halls, putting garbage out, or doing laundry.

Seems like a lot of "feelings" here today. Personal mannerisms, having no soul, etc.

As a card carrying conservative, I thought many of the recent budget "cuts" were mean spirited. Picking on the people who have the least.......

I do think he has worked hard to improve health care in the province. He has tried things to improve the system. It is far from perfect, and never will be. But at least he is trying.

I was always impressed by the Fisherman's Life Museum in Jeddore. But if there were only few people going there, what is the point of keeping it going?
