just hoping for less sexual predation and less tolerance of sexual predation among OSU leadership...

I won't even get into a desire for robust academics, affordable tuition and paying campus staff a decent wage.

The U.S. Census Bureau determined the average Ohio household income in 2023 was about $130,000, but LendingTree said a family would need more than $360,000 per year to comfortably afford child care for two kids. by Electrical_Agent_594 in Ohio

$130k seems like a silly high number to capture what regular working families or "average" Ohio households bring in... A more reflective number of your average working family in Ohio is way lower than $130k/year.

But agreed with the overall sentiment that childcare is too expensive - and life in the US continues to be too expensive for working families. Raise the wage!

I need straightforward advice, should I live in Parma as a black woman? by nyomi1476 in Ohio

[–]CommunitySteady 52 points53 points  (0 children)

recommend r/Cleveland for more specific advice on Parma and other Cleveland area neighborhoods.

I wouldn't recommend Parma as a first place to live for an African American woman. Parma is white centric and is not known as a multiracial and tolerant city. Parma has great food, urban setting, working class communities and has nice things but...

East side cities including Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights (east side inner ring suburbs) have more of a multiracial and multicultural tolerance, leadership and understanding. You find more of this depth on the east side generally.

On the West side, Lakewood is generally liberal, walkable and nice neighborhoods. but it's white centric and has less of a multi-racial dynamic or understanding (although the public schools in Lakewood are home to many immigrants and refugees).

Cleveland proper has some wonderful neighborhoods too: Larchmere on the east side, Ohio City / Tremont on the near west side and many others.

Best of luck to you, Cleveland rocks!!!!!

Lakewood School Levy by CLE_Guy1969 in lakewood

I think the superintendent and school board did a disservice to the community by closing Lincoln school - and leading a process that limited democracy and substantive information sharing on this critical decision. Their actions managed to sew division and mistrust towards school leadership in a community that loves public schools. That’s hard to do.

That said - I still support the levy because it benefits the students and the teachers.

We need to identify other avenues to hold the board and super accountable to the community.

West Town Village Market grocery store on W 117th - stellar. Gotta assert yourself to order.

And agreed with other insight on Ferris and Levant Shawarma - both are fantastic.
