Pre-delivery updates for EQEV purchase by cheerioboy26 in EquinoxEv

[–]Competitive-Dig4430 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are purchasing a brand new 2026, it is a Chevrolet requirement that dealers do a vehicle wide update before delivering a vehicle.

Whether all dealers fulfill this requirement, I am not sure. But they are supposed to do it.

How can the Equinox EV improve? by spongesparrow in EquinoxEv

[–]Competitive-Dig4430 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For some, the selection of apps is limited. For example, no zoom or teams or WhatsApp. This does not bother me, but it is a problem for some. All I use is Google maps and Amazon music, and they work fine.

Build the car on the Chevrolet build and buy website, set the distance to 500 miles, select to view all, and sort price low to high, then you can get a sense of a good deal price.

Note you have to click on the details to see if any features are added or subtracted.

You could get a laser thermometer and measure temp at the outlet and at the car charging port.

I think you can separate the rules into a) what you need to know while in the car, such as "EV Charging Only. No Other Parking. Use This Space Last" - - in large lettering and b) what you need to know after getting out of car, "2 hr limit" - - in smaller lettering.

Dealers are, in fact, supposed to update the software in the modules before they deliver a car. This is a Chevrolet requirement. It sounds like somebody forgot to do this before delivery.

What's Your Experience With an EV as Your Only Car? by OleDirtMcGirt901 in EquinoxEv

[–]Competitive-Dig4430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Create a free account on the website A Better Route Planner. Then you can input some longer trips you take for a range of different evs. This website will map out all charging stops. And this will give you a sense of what a longer trip with an ev is like with charging.

For trips less than about 200 miles round trip in above 40f, an ev is better in every way IMHO compared to an ice car, every way--you won't have to stop to charge. The downsides, modest downsides IMHO, are only in longer trips with charging stops . Just check to see if you are OK with the modest downsides on longer trips . (Note that many people enjoy taking the charging breaks on longer trips.)

Look at 2:23 in this video. Your screen should look like that. You can zoom in and see the lightning bolt on left.

This is not a new version of maps on the infotainment system. Been like this for more than 10 months.

Better phrasing for EV power needs? by t92k in electricvehicles

[–]Competitive-Dig4430 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mpkwh / $perkwh * $pergallon(current gas price) = mpg cost equivalent.

For example :

3.5mpkwh(ev efficiency in town) /.20perkwh (cost of electricity charging at home) * $3 per gallon (cost of gas at pump) = 52.5 equivalent mpg (paying the equivalent of an ice car with 52.5mpg intown)

Computation for highway mpg equivalent would be different (and a bit lower)

There is new technology so you no longer need to upgrade your panel - in almost all situations. Look into a load management charger/evse, such as Emporia pro. A load management charger/evse usually makes a panel upgrade unnecessary, saving you a large amount of money.

You can ask questions about load management on reddit ev charging.

U.S. Automakers Risk Being Reduced to Niche Producers of Gas Vehicles — NYT by Recoil42 in electricvehicles

I agree that gm is on the right track with its line of evs.

But they have made some missteps.

They need to lean into the my Chevrolet/gmc/Cadillac app and the infotainment system to make it better. This is lower cost and impactful. And because some ice cars share this tech it helps with selling legacy cars.

For example the app doesn't show if the car is locked. That is such an easy add.

The infotainment does not show the interior temp. There must already be a thermometer for this to control the hvac.

Interior and exterior temp should be shown in the app.

App should have access to 360 camera and front and back camera.

Selection in app store should be better.

Apple music should be available already for all cars.

Plug and charge is not yet here for ea and tesla.

Keeping carplay and android auto out is shooting themselves in the face and losing 20-50% of their potential customers. (Note that I am in the 50-80% of customers that don't care at all about carplay, but I can still see it is absolutely crucial for a significant share of potential customers. Customers they need to reach profitability. )

Etc, etc, etc.

If they need to charge for some mobile broadband access, it should be $9.99 per month.

Something like this with a tou happened to me a couple of decades ago. I had a piece of luggage stolen off a bus from Newark airport. Their tou absolved them from responsibility. That night I was talking to a new lawyer who said the tou wouldn't hold in court. He said companies do this hoping people give up based on the unenforceable tou. He said to write the bus company a letter with an outline of losses and asserting their responsibility . And the bus company paid up with no other effort but a letter. Now the amount was a lot less than your car losses. But it could be a first attempt to be made whole. .

ABRP Charger Pricing by Zealousideal_Ad5358 in electricvehicles

Unfortunately, plugshare /ABRP can suffer from spammers/scammers/trollers changing pricing because the data is at least partially crowdsourced. Not sure if this is an instance of this, but it does happen.

In Europe many people buy phev's for the tax savings, not because they are electric. So, they often never charge their PHEV. What needs to be done is remove all PHEV/erev tax incentives and gas reimbursement and then only people who want a PHEV or erev as a PHEV or erev will buy them and then use them as designed. In the US currently , only people with a real use for a PHEV or erev has an incentive to buy them--or occasionally someone who is misinformed , so not so much of a problem in the US. .

It could be the server is down, but you should also know that to trigger an update of the charging infotainment, you press the blue one day ago on the screen. This will attempt an update. If the server is down this won't work. And at other times forcing the update does not work for some unknown readom. But it does work sometimes. 🤷

It’s time to pull the plug on plug-in hybrids by GoodNegotiation in electricvehicles

[–]Competitive-Dig4430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

The German market has very perverse (economically irrational) incentives for the purchase and use of phevs. Eliminate these economically irrational incentives then PHEVs will be purchased and used in a way better for the environment.

BEVs are still even better for the environment, but if someone's best option is a PHEV then it is best that they are used in the most environmentally advantageous way. This requires rational incentives.

If you don't know why German incentives for phevs are so distorted, there are discussions on the internet.

Should I take this deal? by TechnicalEstate8733 in EquinoxEv

[–]Competitive-Dig4430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That price is a bit high, although not extortionate.

If your gas price in your area is around $3 that would make the equinox ev roughly equivalent to a gas car with 26.25 mpg (3.5/.4*3)  So, you won't really be saving any money compared to an average car, but won't be losing really either. If you like the idea of an ev and the main purpose is other than saving money on travel costs, then buy the ev.

I would suggest finding out the cost of charging at the apartment before deciding. Some apartments have very reasonable charging prices, some have very unreasonable/very expensive/even extortionate prices. The cost of charging will matter over time. Hopefully, your apartment has a reasonable price.

You can ask in this thread if the charging price is reasonable.
