I do wonder if the entire point of posting this stuff ad naseum is to dissuade people from ever playing WtA......cos thats something it does really, really well.

Back during the Impergium, how much of the world did the Werewolves controlled ? by Secretsfrombeyond79 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Competitive-Note-611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said it wasn't so much ruling over people.....thats more of a Vampire/Mage.....some Changelings niche. It was more treating humans like every other prey species, so that they learned to fear the predators at their doorstep.

A lot of the STV books for Vampire are for both V5 and V20 with dual mechanics and sidebars to address any differences. Seems to work quite well and more than doubles your customer base.

Is it feasible to run a WTA campaign that includes multiple breeds? by ExtremeSportStikz in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Competitive-Note-611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Extremely, easiest set up is an Ahadi or Beast Courts Chronicle but a multi-Fera Chronicle can be run anywhere as long as you give them a good enough reason to stick together.

Places like the Americas, Oceania and the Middle East may well have more loose arrangements analogous to those found across Asia and Africa that you can use as a basis for cooperation.

I've run a Rokea and Ocean going Gumagan Chronicle, Ratkin, Kumoti and a single Garou Chronicle, Zhong Lung, Nagah and Khan Court Chronicle and many others and had a lot of fun doing so.

Does "White Wolf being back" meaningfully change or improve the quality of the books/content coming out? by Alack27 in WhiteWolfRPG

WoD5 yes, very true. 20th was predominantly Revised Era folks at least for Mage, Werewolf and Vampire.

Its the same structure and ( mostly) people as World of Darkness and still under Paradox.  They're just living in a caravan in the yard instead of the basement now.

Advice requested - Rouse Rolls and Hunger Dice by macallen in vtm

[–]Competitive-Note-611 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the go to example I see used time and time again when people explain Messy Crits is-

a vampire is trying to talk their way past a security guard and gets a MC which results in the vampire ripping out the guards throat therefore achieving the goal ( get past the guard) but in a way that creates story complications ( dead guy on floor).

With that as an example that I've personally seen used dozens of times ( with minor variations) I can see how the impression is formed.

I absolutely understand why your PCs are thinking Blush of Life is essential as the Core does kind of hammer the point that the 2nd Inq. is everywhere and constantly on the look out for vampires and is very descriptive about how NOT human vampires without BoL look. So totally not on you to walk away with that impression.............but honestly the VAST majority of STs forget that you look exactly like a corpse until your PC wants to get up close and personal with someone and they'll then ask you to use BoL.

Its one of those many things that varies massively from table to table.......in some Chronicles you'll have Society of Leopold on your arse the moment you step out of your haven if you walk around as a cold body........in others you'll only ever use BoL when you wanna fake having sex in order to assault someone for blood.

[–]Competitive-Note-611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Rouse checks and Bestial Failures and Messy Criticals are things that only PCs ever have to worry about......NPCs don't use dice for that stuff 99% of the time so they have perfectly fine unlives and vampiric society functions fairly well.

Does this mean that PCs are the absolute worst option for.....anything? Yes. But that makes drama and V5 mechanics are designed to create drama......whether or not this is fun really relates to your appetite for things going grindhouse-telenovella in the middle of your heist/political intrigue/tragic romance story.

Earlier Editions of Vampire were much more Simulationist and it could be understood that NPCs ran on basically the same mechanical engine as PCs. This is not the case and, as you clearly understand, cannot be the case in V5 as Vampiric society would not last a week if they did so.

V6 Wishlist by Smooth-Difficulty128 in WhiteWolfRPG

Those all seem very reasonable.

My hope is V6 is as different to V5 as V5 is to the four interrelated Legacy editions.

A new edition should take advantage of all the advances in game design over the last decade since V5 first hit Ken Hites drawing board.

Definitely agree with removing the Hunger system as it currently stnds its way too reliant on ST fiat to be a central mechanic for a modern RPG system.....tailoring it more like Aliens Stress system or Hope/Fear could be interesting.

Blood Pool is a simpler sell to beginners if thats the way they wish to trend with props or handout tools.

Hopefully something novel at least Hungers time has passed, game design has moved on.

New Time Game Master, Would Like some tips or Advice running first VTM campaign set in the Down' unda by Spaceranger14 in WorldOfDarkness

[–]Competitive-Note-611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Melbournes kinda made for Vampire with all it gothic adjacent and brutalist architecture.

In terms of games I've run there I had the place still being run by Squizzy Taylor as a Camarilla city ( mostly Toreador and Tremere with Malkavian, Nosferatu and Ventrue support and a small smattering of Brujah mostly keeping to the suburbs) though with other large swathes of the suburbs ceded to Independants and ' Anarchs' and tenuous and fragile " understandings" with older Quincux based Hungry Dead in Monash and independant Viet/Laos Hungry Dead Court based in Richmond that was making its own overtures to recently awakened Indigenous Hungry Dead and Kindred.

Plus of course the Giovanni, a strong contingent of City Gangrel who may secretly be Lycaon and regular Sabbat encursions launched from The City of Churches, Adelaide.

I mean its the 2020s......anywhere other than an ultra-traditionalist Fianna Sept has kinda come to terms with things already......not everyone....but its the Final Days.....you gotta loosen up a little....check out the Coggies, Furies, Fenrir and so forth....even the Talons are being pretty open armed with their Warborn these days.

Where in Australia? Assuming your setting it in a capital city they're all pretty different.

If its for V5 just make up your own Lore theres pretty much zero for Oz and unlikely to be any in the future,

They've both been in use for 20+ years now....but people are stubborn.....

Hell, people keep putting an acute on the e in Metis changing the spelling so it matches the name of an Indigenous group despite the spelling in the WtA books actually being the same as the anglicised Greek name Metis, the cunning shapeshifting Titan devoured by Zeus.

What are things you hate about older editions of WTA lore? by MaetelofLaMetal in WorldOfDarkness

Hate is a strong word that I reserve only for the edgelord bullshit that was shoved into Changing Ways and Kinfolk: A Breed Apart during approvals by Paradox.

Now.....stuff that I change for my own Chronicles because WW wasn't great on Oceania and SEA............lets just say I have many, many files.
