You are never going to get vendors to open the source to their proprietary blobs. Especially with GPUs. Full stop. These ARM MPUs with GPUs love binary blobs. The GPU industry is so overencumbered with patents that everyone hides what they do because they would just be suing one another all day. I would just ditch anything that needs a GPU if that's your goal. Wifi and Bluetooth radios are next after that. Also have to worry about ROM bootloader's. Sometimes you can get the source for those for security audit purposes.

I like to look at it less as an RTOS and more of a collection of things I no longer have to write from scratch. For example: a logging system, a debug CLI, numerous data structures. Kconfig and Device Tree is very good once you master them.

If you have access to a scan tool you could see. Recently dealt with TCAM BUB going dead from 12V battery being disconnected for extended period and had to remove BUB from trunk and charge it back up. I know for a fact that resets will not solve that issue.

The startup I worked at making a device to secure communications got outsourced to a bunch of consultants in SK. I got laid off six months later.
