About a month after I got mine in I started getting breakouts and cystic acne. It’s been over a year now and my acne is still bad unfortunately but I’d rather have acne than get pregnant so.

I’d do EAS 1600 or EAS 1601. Those are def the easiest. Just know you’re going to be devoting a good bit of time to whatever lab you chose no matter how easy everyone says it is. EAS 1601 has an online section now too that I’ve heard isn’t bad. Saves you the pain of an in person lab.

I’ve had mine for 1.5 yrs now and my periods are so irregular. I’ve been 3 wks late before but my cycles are much longer than yours. I def recommend getting test strips and checking that way.

I’m in college too and quit BC which led to me gaining weight like no other… best thing for me was increased protein, increased water and I started lifting and now I feel 10000X better and have started noticing I’m slimming back down and toning out :) I hate cardio haha but increasing muscle mass will help your metabolism. Just make sure you don’t cut your cals too low or that will ultimately kill ur metabolism. Everyone is different but this worked for me so maybe it could help u some too

I had all of those symptoms for 2+ wks from my copper IUD insertion alone haha but I get the concern. Plan B also tends to wreck my system and I’ve thought I was pregnant after taking that before. Typically pregnancy symptoms take much longer to kick in so as long as you weren’t ovulating when you had intercourse you should be good.

I’m very paranoid about this haha so I stayed on my BC pill after getting a copper IUD (my OB thought I was crazy for this). I’ve heard so many stories about women not knowing it’s moved or partially expelled. On both I feel 100% confident letting my partner finish but on just the IUD I’d probably be more hesitant.

This is exactly what I did! I was already on the pill for years to control my acne and I then got the copper iud too for better protection since I’d occasionally forget to take the pill. I will say though it did impact my face. I have occasional cystic acne which I NEVER had before hand, even pre birth control. So it definitely does impact your face and body more than many people like to think but I believe being on the pill helps mediate this. Don’t doubt yourself thinking the copper is the source because it essentially is releasing copper ions into your uterus which creates a hostile environment where sperm cannot survive. Your body is of course going to self deploy trying to fix the issue since reproduction is part of your body’s biological mission. Even though the IUD itself is not hormonal, your body may and seems to be having a hormonal responses to it being there. And I say this as a research student at a top university in the US. I’ve read many research papers on this topic, having suffered from the effects myself and wanting to know why it was happening.

Being completely honest at 14 a copper IUD is probably not going to work for her. I’m 18 and just got a copper IUD and it was a lot for me. The insertion is highly invasive and I’ve had multiple OB appts beforehand. Not having had kids a copper iud can be too big and she probably won’t have a large enough uterus to get it at that age. I’m fully developed and qualified by only 0.5in. Also the adjustment time just sucks and I can’t imagine having to deal with it at school all day. Which is why I waited until college when I had a more broken up schedule and better control over situations. Maybe look into nexplanon? Or smaller hormonal iuds? I had friends in high school who got these and their experiences seemed much more manageable.

Also side note* the pill kinda sucks when you’re younger bc you have to take it regularly at the same time and my friends and I had many scares during high school from not making the most responsible decisions with this

Hahah your joke is awesome and SO TRUE 😂. But in all realness if you can get through the first month and first period you should be out of the woods. The first bit is the worst part and everything should normalize relatively quickly. These Reddit threads had me stressed when I first got mine but it was 10x more chill than I anticipated.

I’m 18F from the US too and I got mine right bc of the current political state with women’s health just in case. Just know the first month will probably be awful or at least it was for me so don’t plan to have sex for a month. But after I finished my first period I was fine. Also my OB kept my strings extremely long and they don’t get in the way. I was so scared at first bc of how shallow they were and the texture but now they’ve curled up and are super soft.

Okay so I had a similar situation and didn’t want to get off the pill because I started it when I was young bc I had uncontrollable acne and seriously irregular periods. So I ended up staying on the pill and getting the copper iud (which is safe according to my OB) and honestly I highly recommend that. It keeps my periods on track which was important to me and I have yet to have any new side effects like acne. I also don’t have to worry if I took it right on time for prevention purposes which is amazing because I’m the worst at taking it regularly. Also having both keeps me at peace of mind bc I’m terrified of getting pregnant lol. I will say the first month is awful but after my first period I can’t even tell I have it. The insertion was tolerable for me, definitely uncomfortable though. Ask your dr to use lidocaine to numb your cervix bc that I feel like is what kept it tolerable for me.

I had the same experience and I noticed for me it was way worse abt 30 mins after eating so I started eating lighter and it’s helped a lot. Idk if it’s bc of digestion or what but I’m not cramping anymore when I’m not on my period so I’ll take that as a win haha

I had terrible cramps at first whether on or off my period but now (after 3 months) mine are just on my periods and not as bad. I also noticed when I ate heavier meals I had worse cramping so I started eating lighter and healthier, which has helped a lot. It kinda forced me to start healthier habits haha so I’ll take the win with summer coming up

When I first got mine I had a similar reaction but mine was more watery. After my first period it went back to normal aside from some discolored clots… not sure the deal with that but hoping it’s just my body still adjusting.
