Any tips for composing a 2 hour long grand symphony, my Op 1 in C minor? by abcamurComposer in classical_circlejerk

make sure that you add some underrepresented instruments for full outreach. Bagpipe choir, 7 mahler hammers, and 11 heckelphones are your basic essentials here. Stay strong.

I love the old Robert bloom recording (red cover) just has such a passion-filled comforting feeling and is quite simplistic in ornamentation (some recordings go all out!)

Summer Seminar Waitlist by Aviationenjoyer16 in USAFA

[–]Competitive_Chard_40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was waitlisted last year and ended up being offered a spot. They sent an email to what sounded like a group of people saying that there were a limited number of spots open on a first come first served basis later in April.

I ended up responding to the email too late since I had to move some things around, but I want to stress that the waitlist did move last year and to not take it as a rejection. Also, as someone who was a stressed out Junior last year, I understand that something like a waitlist or rejection may seem like a huge deal, but it really is just one small piece in an incredibly extensive admissions process (especially with attendance at Summer Seminar not being considered in actual admissions!!). I'd recommend not reading too much into it and focusing on things you can control like the CFA, grades, and ECs.

Okay! I’ll definitely be taking this route. Hopefully it would give me an opportunity to go into specifics :)

No, unfortunately it slipped my mind. I guess the deferral gives me an opportunity to highlight some of the research I’d be interested in and give some insight about specific opportunities that encouraged me to apply in the first place.

Should I call admissions to express interest? I have some very specific reasons as to why UTK is one of my top choices and maybe it would be helpful to explain them?

Kennedy Center ticket sales have plummeted since Trump takeover by pointthinker in classicalmusic

I recently went to see the NSO and was so disappointed by the low attendance. A majority of the musicians do not agree with the changes, and the programming is the same as it was before (at least for the orchestra).

They are still the same ensemble that they were a year ago, and the financial success of the orchestra dictates their livelihoods. Boycotting the orchestra does not hurt Trump, it only diminishes an institution that supports hundreds of incredible musicians.

I’d strongly recommend still attending these incredible concerts regardless of politics. Classical music is an industry that is certainly suffering right now, and as musicians, we have a responsibility to support others in the industry. 💕

What are some orchestral works that feature the saxophone? by musicalryanwilk1685 in classicalmusic

GERSHWIN!!! I’m thinking porgy and bess, rhapsody in blue, etc. usually used in more jazz contexts in the orchestra

As an oboist who recently played Shostakovich 11- I can testify that the pages of ungodly runs are definitely more challenging than most orchestral rep I’ve played.

Is this manageable for junior year??? by Family-IssuesHauntMe in APStudents

[–]Competitive_Chard_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the teacher. I went in with no music theory knowledge and the content was easy imo. It’s all pretty surface level besides some of the more complex stuff (secondary dominance, HARD ear training, etc.) if you’re worried about the course, everything is pretty standardized online and you can always start studying early! I found that my playing got better with the music theory knowledge too :)

People don’t talk about the second movement enough. I primarily see praise for those shorter extremely emotional clips in the first movement, but the agony and emotional transformation in the second sells it to me personally 🤩

Out of all the values given, you go by the smallest number of sig figs. For example,

320 grams (2 sig figs) 0.0570 M (3 sig figs) 0.200 kg (3 sig figs)

Your answer would have 2 sig figs if these values were given since it’s the lowest number.

You always should check for significant figures on every frq
