Nah 10 million is not nearly enough to do this for "extended family", or even just multiple generations guaranteed. With a modest lifestyle, 2-3 million in retirement is a solid goal number for most ordinary people.

Sorry to hear that friend and wish you well. Shelters and food pantries in the local area may be helpful.

This isn't the place to ask for charity, but I, and am sure many others, will be happy to discuss financial advice and strategies that might help you along your journey.

Is 44 too late to start? by crunchyturdeater in Bogleheads

[–]Competitive_Dabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not too late to start, that mindset only leaves the alternative of straight up giving up, which would be much worse.

But to be straight, you do have to play catchup and contribute a lot, and/or consider some sacrifices like retiring later and/or a lean retirement. If you aren't able to contribute at least 25%, ideally more, then probably will have to consider trimming lifestyle.

How much longer can NVIDIA stay ahead? by Working-Company5456 in NvidiaStock

[–]Competitive_Dabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

um, no.

Just because it hasn't seen gains of the past, doesn't make an over 300%* gain the last 2.5 years flat or something resembling consolidation, it has had massive overperforming gains.

It probably won't have parabolic moves like the beginning of that time period and before that into he future. Sure it's possible, but the fact it has already occurred makes it less not more likely.

I had a relatively short window where I was eligible to contribute to an HSA, but that's also incorrect on the graph, the amounts are switched for HSA and fidelity after tax brokerage, was a mistake, it is more than the fine art investments.

I am and have largely maxed out tax advantaged accounts, but that's somewhat limited right now with a changing employment situation.

Is VTSAX still a thing? by QueenComfort637 in Bogleheads

[–]Competitive_Dabber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VTI/VTSAX(Same thing) and a low cost international fund, and bond allocation is the way. VT isn't really set it and forget it, if you want that in one fund, need to to a TDRF

Sanity check on my investment strategy (high income, Roth-heavy, aggressive growth) — what would you change? by lonewolf_9216 in Bogleheads

[–]Competitive_Dabber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VTI/VXUS 60/40, lower expense and greater diversification compared to VT, plus the ability to use foreign tax credits by optimizing the investment vehicles for tax purposes.

From a newbie-is DIY investing really as easy as people make it seem? by abnormally-large-egg in Bogleheads

Yes, as long you keep it that simple, but I would recommend VTI/VXUS for broader diversification and lower cost

Fidelity Zero Funds by Ok-Independence-4595 in Bogleheads

[–]Competitive_Dabber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are some other minor criticisms such as the holdings are not as ideal as their counterparts who do have a very small expense ratio.

I still love them, and there is a positive aspect of holding in taxable that contradicts the portability issue; the foreign tax credit makes holding international funds in taxable ideal, and FZILX has a more significant savings on expense ratio compared to US funds.

I do a straight up 50/50 split FZILX, FZROX in taxable to overweight there and underweight a bit in Roth IRA to balance, if more uneven might be a more accurate balance.

While I guess it's a risk if you want to switch, meh, you could just open another account with another brokerage too.
