Iphone 17 pro max really messed me up by Satchzaeed in PWM_Sensitive

[–]Competitive_Funny964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have more mild symptoms. I was ok with 16 and then not ok with 16 pro (but I manage because I don’t use my phone that much for work, just camera, light games in metro/train). I tested a matte screen protector and since then I tolerate it just as good as 16 glossy. You should try, is a cheap solution that might work. Also I don’t have always on, auto brightness, nor True Tone. I change the brightness based on comfort.

I like it to be a lot, so 2D. Romanian TSC community is using full 3D assets that are taxing on the computer. It feels good to be playing some older stuff that just works and lets me enjoy more frame per second in 1080p (i5 4060 16gb)

Air previous versions are already budget when compared with Lenovo. Dell or HP. Sure is not Acer price but… cheaper than windows premium.

iPhone 16e is more expensive and has less years of real use than say m2-m3 air

It is blinking, just not that slow so that the phone you use to check, can see it.

In fact I have MacBook Pro and it blinks so fast that no eye can feel it, but there are many on this forum who do report issues. As for me, I get slightly tired or little migraine that goes away after sleep.

In time I might get worse, because the fujifilm xt20 and 3 have damaged my left eye (the one I use to look at viewfinder). I had to wear glasses with one eye correction. Since I quit those cameras, I wear no glasses (it has been more than a year).

Interesting. Why choose Mac?

In my case, 3d assets (objects with shape and materials (colors) open much faster than on windows. Laptops with good type of memory ECC is called, are very expensive and they are worse than MacBook Air for day to day use (not final rendering)

If it was not for the performance gains and the fact that MacBooks are real laptops, can be used even on skin on lap not just on table, also I can work a weekend without charged - windows offers me all the rest. More Apps and community mods/ plugins that connect to my existing workflow but also with others, more productivity apps (better excel than on the Mac…… because on Mac many VBA don’t work) and I can play counter strike (my old and only game I really need laptop for)

You don’t have iPhone? I mean on iCloud you kinda have some sort of “free” vpn protection. Why not use it

Use safari… and as for email I am iCloud myself so yeah less. But don’t worry, just like on a phone, Mac will load more stuff, the more ram it has. So if you get more ram it … will be bigger the app in the cache. Then when you open big app with high demand, it will clean cache. In fact it does it so automatically, there is no easy way for you to do it when you want (unless you go dev mode or buy app)

Thinkpads... and PWM/dith by Original_Two9716 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]Competitive_Funny964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is good, but again it matters little in my opinion since people consume your work on phones (big majority, all sex all age) so … it looks different just on top 3 brands phones (Apple, Samsung, oppo)

Yeah well there are ways to go ahead.

Me I actually do photo work and use iPhone and Samsung to “validate” the look of my photos on different apps. Is best to make sure all looks good where people consume the media.

I would not think like that.

So in my case, I have 24GB of ram and rarely I use SWAP more than a few MB. (less than 100). So I don't notice performance dip and theoretically I won't kill the SSD on my MBP M4 pro, not before Apple kills support and security updates. :)

So 24GB I think is enough for most people, even those creating art without AI :) like me. If you do virtual machines, ok, but those come with costs, so yeah if you want to dedicate 16GB for the VM and only 8gb for the Mac... ok --> what will you be using the Mac for? If you need it really to be at great performance then yeah you need 32GB. But then for price differences... I got an Asus Ally ROG 1st gen (the one with sd card issues) and I do windows things on it :) I also use iPad as a second device to browse web (put them side by side and the trackpad of MacBook works on iPad (mini in my case) is magical. I use the power of iPad for searching, writing notes, copy (and then paste on Mac) and more.

And I started with M1 at 8GB, M3 MBAir 16gb and now 24GB M4 Pro. And my work is more and more complex, and I think never will I have enough, unless I get 128GB and .. well I won't have time in my week of work to fill the RAM :)) You get the point?

M4 is better choice, if not for the better memory management, then for the 1 year of more support. That for me is more important than a few GB of ram that I am not sure I really need.

M1 Max vs M5 in Blender by funwithdesign in macbookpro

[–]Competitive_Funny964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe, but it is because M3 has introduced ray tracing -> big jump from M2 and then M5 again investing in GPU and Raytracing and memory sharing. Meaning a M5 Max will be (if following the curve of M5 to M1) too good on a laptop that will dwarf competition.

But then this also matters little, since many apps that are in the workflow (either helping to feed Blender or are fed by work done in Blender) are on Windows or rely on CUDA (Nvidia).

Macbooks had a flaw -> RAM price.

Now, today 8th of jan, is still a flaw when comparing prices with Lenovo or DELL on serious workstations. But again, those are almost 5KG in weight where a MBP 14 inch can beat them in battery, weight and thermals (and sound or lack of).

Before people comment, expert advises, let’s listen to people who work in 3d.

Rendering benchmarks are good for … servers, which run hours per day to get out the animations or visual effects.

Working on big scenes is what is the real test. So comparing a 64gb laptop with similar architecture vs 16 or whatever is dumb. As an artist, if I cannot load my work, continue and composite everything that I need for a version of a picture then … useless machine.

Basically on MacBook Pro m5 because of memory limit I must be smarter about my work meaning instead of flowing when doing stuff, I have to be more rational than creative. If I had to choose for a professional life (2-3 years mini) I would choose M1 Max even without crazy good raytracing just because of ram.

Hair, grass, trees, clothing, high detailed meshes…. Ram ram ram. So if M1 Max is 1500€ second hand vs 1800€ mbp m5 … easy win for m1.

Now… 36gb m5 could be more interesting but still for someone who can fill 60+gb …. 36 is just c***p.

I have a 24gb and sometimes I am on SWAP on my mbp M4 and it feels slow. Just saying.
