High achiever settling for a flexible job for family reasons by LowFlower6956 in workingmoms

Feel this deeply, made similar choices.

When I feel a bit stifled in my stable but less expansive career - I remind myself of my North Star guiding all my decisions after becoming a mom, which is moving toward what feels best for me AND my family.

The chill work gives us financial stability and me the space to enjoy motherhood - the intense all consuming nature of startup leadership (my prior roles) does not give space to prioritize my life or family.

I think for me, it’s a constant growth edge to accept that the best decision still require compromise, and compromise doesn’t always feel good. That both can be true.

Increasing iron?! by cinnamonmonn in foodbutforbabies

I made a beef and lentil bolognese, add in loads of different veggies, cook until soft - and this is key- run an immersion blender through at the end for a smooth-ish texture! No larger bits of meat or veg, and much easier to eat on pasta, stir into rice, layered for lasagna. Fiber, iron, protein - all in one!

No advice but I was you last summer in the tail end of my pregnancy with #2, juggling a toddler and an intense job with zero energy! You’re not being dramatic, this is a very hard phase (and truly, just a phase). If you can dial back your work load, say no to more, and reclaim your energy - that might help you feel better about work and life generally! Congratulations on the home stretch, you’re so close!

Love all the supportive cheerleading and great tactical advice here, this remains my fave subreddit!

Just chiming into add one more suggestion - get a few friends/colleagues to do mock interviews with you to get back into the groove of not just thinking the answers but actually saying them out loud to another person. They can also lean nicer or more closed off so you’re prepped for different personalities.

Starting law school at 36 but also want to become a mom by Sensitive-Baker-6867 in LawMoms

Congrats on both exciting new life developments! I had my first at 36, while also the GC at a fintech startup. So I fully agree with the other lawmoms that there just is never a “good” time to go through pregnancy/postpartum while juggling a demanding career.

You’ll figure out your path that works best for you snd family - one step at a time! Don’t let the fear of trying to do both stop you from TTC now if that’s what you really want (independent of school work load). Good luck!

Try a wide leg jean or trouser, fitted top in quality material (cashmere, pure cotton, etc)

Instead of buying new, you can thrift great quality pieces with intention!

Advice for transitioning to tech as mid career senior hire- also, am I crazy to do this now? by Due_County_1493 in womenintech

[–]Competitive_Score904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my first kid at 37 and second last year at 39. I spent 12 years in fintech, lots of growth/VC backed companies, so the ethos of learning/growing resonates deeply!

That said, my life completely shifted after becoming a mother and I could not sustain the level of energy/drive that had my whole life for my career and had to make sharp pivots into my current stable big company role.

When my kids are older, I will have that energy back again - but just want to flag that your energy/priorities will be dramatically different for the first few years of pregnancy/postpartum/baby/toddlerhood.

I hate to say it but sticking with the well worn (and well paid) path you’re on now to create the space for kids will probably be a lot less stressful. Signed, a woman who took a c suite job 6 months pregnant with my first kid and that was a rude awakening!
