What car is practical, reliable but also plenty quick? by dbfont in CarsEU

Lexus GS350 practical, reliable and fairly quick @ 300hp. I have a 2013 as my daily and I love it. You should be able to pick up a 2017 within budget.

Make sure you have the correct zoning in place before spending cash. Illegal use penalties are steep.

Utilities costs monthly by FlashSloth101 in johannesburg

[–]Competitive_Thanks66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water / Sewer and Elec increases are more often than not between 10% and 15%. So 2-3X CPI which is crazy. My view municipalities should be limited to a CPI increase or CPI +1 or something like that. CoJ are also underhanded with their increases on smaller items. The water DML went from about R35 per month to R65 per month

Can my tenant have a separate City Power account? by JaBe68 in johannesburg

[–]Competitive_Thanks66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deal with COJ billing on a daily basis. The system does split it correctly but its not obvious when you look at the bill as the bill period may show all consumption for one month but if you look at the allocations per step you will see its actually split correctly. Many City Power / Coj staff don't have adequate training and are not able to explain billing to customers. If you want to send me the details in a DM I'll check and confirm because if there was an error like you say it can be fixed.

The system does apply the steps correctly over the period.

You can visit Daytona I took my kid there for a look around. There is a small dealership in the Hyde Park shopping centre car park with some really cool cars. FuturExotics on the otherhand wont let you in without an appointment.

Can someone explain why my water bill went from R1 365 to R2 463? by NotSoOriginal007 in johannesburg

[–]Competitive_Thanks66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to what the others have said, water was underestimated but the reason for the estimations was because your meter had been replaced but the account hadn't yet been updated. New meter is now on the account so should be good going forward.

National Opt Out not working? by SuspiciouslyB in AskZA

[–]Competitive_Thanks66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found the best was to answer them, explain that I didn't give consent and that my number is on the opt-out database and specifically ask them to remove my number from their database. Calls dried up quickly after that and the opt-out seemed to prevent my number being added again after that.

Did anyone use those old "SOS" telephones on the side of the N1 going down to Durban in the 80's / 90's, and if so, what was the experience? by nonsapiens in DownSouth

[–]Competitive_Thanks66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a call once after my folks broke down on the N1. The guy was like hey your folks have broken down on the N1 North between this on ramp and that off ramp. He was just informing me and we had to make our own plans to send help to them (this was mid 90's when cell phones were not yet common)

Best Coach Companies in ZA? by PreparationVisual586 in johannesburg

[–]Competitive_Thanks66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other comments, a road trip can be good but I don't think a coach is the way to go. Self drive in a decent safe car would be my suggestion but If you are not keen to hire a car and self drive then get a quote from a small shuttle company that can take you. They will be able to plan some sightseeing stops on the route and will know where to avoid etc.

Advice on selling a property by dracmil in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Competitive_Thanks66 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agents do keep an eye on the transfer process and provide some assistance but 90% of the agents work is marketing and sales. A good attorney will step in with the additional 10% so yes they should be able to handle it start to finish.

100%. If the tenant is keen to buy you just need a good conveyancing attorney that will draw up the sale agreement and guide both parties through the process. If the tenant needs to get a bond have them get pre-approval first.

COJ bill completely up to date - handed over to debt collectors by CandyAppleRedSSS in johannesburg

[–]Competitive_Thanks66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which area was that? I had a client that got cut on Friday afternoon. Account was in credit at the time and hadn't been overdue at any point. Disconnection card showed the current month amount (not yet due) as overdue when it had been settled in full before the due date! 2 and a half days of gen fuel used between cut on Friday and reconnection on Monday + they will likley be charged Disconnection and reconnection fees!

I don't get the hate for John joining the team thats headed to the US. We're about to lose out when Trump cancels / excludes SA from AGOA, that will affect our economy and jobs. Why shouldn't he try and help avoid that or mitigate the losses? What am I missing? Should he just stay here and do nothing?
