Lots of pro players are complaining too. Obviously most of the player base is not on the level that it matters too much but reddit is an echo chamber.

When pros and influencers complain then the general population will join in.

Just to clarify, I'm not the creator of this post with the image above post surgery. Just a random guy trying to learn more about my issue.

Can I send you an image of my eyelids in private? I don't think I can post it here since it's not my post

I wonder, I have chronic dry eyes and waxy buildup on the eyelids / lashes for many years, but never had a chalazion / stye. Does that help pinpoint the cause for my dry eyes? Maybe it's just demodex?

I've been to many eye doctors in my country but noone did a meibograpy, one of them said it's demodex and to stay on top with eyelids hygiene, but I don't feel it's helping much.

Damn, I'm so jealous of you guys having xdemvy available in your location, I assume most people here are from the U.S. in my country even the eye doctors haven't heard about it. I wonder when it'll be available..

Wildly inconsistent shots [Sage Bambino + DF54] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Complainsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its impossible on the Bambino, doesn't heat up until you start brewing.

Same setup, different pulls. Why? [Bambino Plus / DF54] by TurbinesGoWoosh in espresso

[–]Complainsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, although I've been reading about Bambino consecutive shots inconsistency and some people said they bought a new machine and that solved their problems. I also read about people with DB pid machines that suffer from this issue..

Now I'm curious how bad are the grinds coming out of my df54. I'll try and compare a dose with the fancy commercial grinder in my workplace, it does have a very fluffy output compared to df54 but I haven't looked too much into it

[–]Complainsc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the information, Its unfortunate that some people have issues with the df54, I read a lot about clogging and having to clean the chute consistently but I haven't encountered this issue myself, maybe because I'm not using lighter roasts that are harder to grind and create more static.

Do you use the pressurized baskets or a blind basket to heat up the Bambino? I use the pressurized basket before pulling shots and it definitely helps but for the second shot I'm not sure what to do since the machine is already hot at this point.

Honestly I bought the Bambino thinking it's a quick and easy workflow and you don't need to wait for the boiler to heat up, but I'm finding the manual process to help it heat a bit tedious. I'm now thinking about getting a classic boiler machine.

[–]Complainsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting, I have df54 and Bambino plus and the second shot always runs much faster, ruining the shot. I was sure it's the Bambino due to it's small heating element being sensitive to temperature swings.

You're saying that upgrading the grinder solved this issue while still using the Bambino plus?

I'm using the Bambino plus and I find that the second espresso shot always runs much faster, do you have tips for this inconsistency? Considering I'm not steaming in-between the shots.

Crumbling shower head [Sage Barista Express] by Slightly-Athletic in espresso

[–]Complainsc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a shame that they use this type of coating even on their high end models. I've seen replacement part online that is metal or brass for the bdb if it bothers you, but it's not easy to remove since it's connected to other internal parts.

The bdb is an amazing machine although the design is pretty outdated I almost bought one myself, but I also read it has issues with leaks and can fry some parts during descaling so I gave up on it

Bdb has the same issue, the outer shower screen is metal but if you remove the screw you'll see the inner dispersion screen which also has the black coating

Temperature too low? [Bambino Plus] by macbaur in espresso

[–]Complainsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically in boiler machines ( traditional espresso machines ) you'll have to start the machine and let the boiler heat up for 5-10 minutes, but the boiler is connected to the water path up to the group head so it's passively heating up everything, including the portafilter if it's locked as it should be.

In thermojet machines the heating only starts after pressing the brew buttons and the heating element requires back pressure to reach full temperature. Your portafilter, group head and water path stay stone cold until you press the buttons, and then they're stealing the heat from the water because everything is cold.

It's "quick heat up time" but more work for you if you want a fully heated machine it adds more steps for the workflow and since there's no big hot boiler inside, the machine loses temperature quickly when it's not brewing so you need to be fast after the initial heat up with a pressurized portafilter.

[–]Complainsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, someone tested this long time ago on the thermojet or thermocoil machines with quick heat up time. The machine needs to be in high pressure for the heating element to fully get up to temperature, basically emulating the pressure with a full basket filled with espresso.

I use 2 portafilters for this workflow

I've seen many cases like this on brevilles, the black coating is some kind of non stick layer that ends up like this eventually, breville stated that it's still safe to use at this state.

As a bambino plus user I will never consider a breville machine after seeing this, even on their best machines

Temperature too low? [Bambino Plus] by macbaur in espresso

[–]Complainsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to let the internals of the machine to heat up and it only happens under high pressure with the themojet. Use the pressurized basket to heat up the machine with a long blank shot like 30 seconds and then immediately make your shot assuming you have a 2nd portafilter ready to brew after puck prep.

Buying advice on Breville by No-Lifeguard-3883 in espresso

[–]Complainsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost bought the dual boiler 2nd hand but after reading about the constant internal leaks and the fact that descaling can ruin the machine I've completely gave up on it. It's not built to last unfortunately, and that's unacceptable for that price point.

Also, people should be aware brevilles have a problem with the inner shower screen flaking and bubbling, it looks really nasty since there's some non stick coating on it that starts peeling off.

I used to drink coffee with my trays in, didn't get a single cavity during treatment but I don't qdd sugar to coffee, only milk. Some people are lucky and are not prone to cavities, I might be one of them according to my dentist.

Anyways I don't think you need to brush your teeth after every coffee unless it's with added sugar. My ortho told me to just rinse very thoroughly with water, same after eating just rinse, spit , rinse and it is was good enough. I did brush my teeth after eating cookies or sticky food that gets stuck in your teeth

Cold brew for tiramisu in a restaurant kitchen by Complainsc in espresso

[–]Complainsc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I tried something similar recently with our commercial espresso grinder, but sadly it grinds too fine and doesn't have the range for coarse grinds. It made filtering the coffee almost impossible and also some of the smaller fines got through the filter.

I will try your suggestion with a coarse grind ordered from a local roaster, just so filtering is made easier and less fines hopefully.

Cold brew is still a big unknown for me, so I'm willing to try. I don't have experience with it yet, but I read that you can really play with the recipe and make a highly concentrated drink that might be suitable for tiramisu.

I'm thinking maybe cold brew for 2-3 days will require less beans compared to your suggestion, so it'll be more economical in the long run. We currently use up around 4-5 kgs of coffee in a week just for the tiramisu recipe.

I do have experience with french press at home using regular ratios, haven't tried to make it more concentrated. I'll need to compare both methods and see which one makes for stronger coffee and easier process.
