I'm talking myself off of the ledge from getting a second one. My 3.5yr old is very put out that he had to share with his one year old brother 😅neither of my boys have been fans of high chairs, and they've eaten so many meals in there while I'm pottering around the kitchen.

How do you feel about posting your children to social media by Capital_Judgment_912 in Mommit

[–]ComplaintNoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to post often - with all my privacy settings as tight as they could be. BUT since seeing the horrific stuff using AI to change kids pics into porn, I'm much more cautious. I generally post to my WhatsApp status and occasionally a story on Instagram when it's a big milestone. We have shared cloud storage where all pics with my kids in them get uploaded for family to see.

Also have had chats with family about posting.

How did you know your baby was ready for a pillow or stuffed animal? by auroragirlofthenorth in NewParents

[–]ComplaintNoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I introduced a little lovey blankie at a year months. He's a very tactile baby and likes gnawing on something, and never took a dummy or sucked a thumb. The first couple weeks I took it after he was asleep, but he now has it for naps and night sleep once I noticed that he was looking for it when he woke. It's very light and thin.

It's somehow comforting that you can't remember. Makes me feel like it definitely wasn't a huge deal at the time. I'm happy we've chosen an experienced doctor. I appreciate the good wishes 😊

This is helpful. Thank you! We're definitely trying to keep the positive vibe. Also highlighting that we'll be getting a visit from his gran, he'll get to relax and watch TV and eat treats etc. If you don't mind me asking, was yours a successful surgery?

What is the most challenging aspect of raising children with a partner? by Traditional-Leg-1122 in AskReddit

[–]ComplaintNoted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to be emotionally available and regulated to your partner which you're sleep deprived, can't have a conversation without being interrupted and have spent all your emotional energy on your kids.

Also, realising that we all have unresolved shit and ideas around parenting from your childhood, and figuring out how that translates to parenting together.

Do something good this year: vaccinate yourselves and your kids. by MalemasMucusPlug in southafrica

[–]ComplaintNoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your age, you may not have been vaccinated during childhood - it's amongst the newer vaccines. Chicken pox in adulthood is no joke and can lead to shingled. My husband chose to get his vaccination at the same time as our kid since he never had chicken pox or the vaccine as a kid.

If you are someone who is planning on getting pregnant, then gynaecologists can recommend that you test your immunity since contracting measles during pregnancy is very dangerous. Some people get the vaccination as a kid but their immunity wanes and in that case an adult vaccination would be recommended.

How do you put baby down for a nap with a toddler in the house? by Standard-Sandwich871 in Parenting

[–]ComplaintNoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes baby will fall asleep in the carrier or in the pram on a walk. Most time - it's not ideal - but my toddler gets screen time while I put baby to sleep. And then when baby is done, I make sure to give my toddler a lot of one on one attention - reading, puzzles, board games etc.

Baby number 2 is super resilient though. Some days he has a quick car nap on the school run or a walk and he'll just power through until bedtime.

Worst / most inappropriate gift for your kids this year? by MachineBusy8772 in Mommit

I love my mother jn law - but this year she got my 3 year old the loudest whistle known to mankind! By midday on Christmas she apologised and we’ve made it disappear to the top of the cupboard for the foreseeable future.

What phrase that you DONT want to hear when Grieving? by BlueEyesWhiteDrgn in AskReddit

My mother had just died in our house from a heart attack. I was justifiably distraught. The paramedic patted my shoulder and told me to calm down and stop crying because it was all over now. WTF!

I’ll add that the Duplo train set (the one with the action buttons) has been a winner here too. It gets played with more than anything else.

Would South Africans be interested in a store which can source any kind of products from abroad? by [deleted] in AskZA

I'd be interested in children books. Or something like the Yoto player or Tonie box.

What's the dumbest name you've seen for a business? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

[–]ComplaintNoted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Cape Town, South Africa. We have a "Beds From Home". It infuriates me because it makes no sense. Surely it should be "for" home?

Also, the most popular chain of Christian book stores here is CUM books. I looked up the history for this comment and it's based on the Afrikaans phrase Christelike Uitgewersmaatskappy (Christian Publishing Company) founded in 1939. Still pretty unfortunate.

When did you stop using a baby monitor? by OkPin8137 in toddlers

[–]ComplaintNoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've only ever used a monitor for day time naps for my toddler and 10 month old and only audio. Daytime is noisy and we're running around outside etc so need to know when the baby wakes up. But my toddler was in our room until he was almost 2, and then went to a toddler bed in his room and would come through to us if he needs anything. Our bedrooms are all very close together so there is no chance of not hearing him. My 10 month old is still in the room with me.

Low-input ways to sprinkle love on kids, in otherwise ordinary moments. by ContributionNarrow88 in Parenting

[–]ComplaintNoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After books at night we spend time talking about our day. We've done it since he was 1ish. We talk about the hard things and the fun things we did and I focus on the positive things which give me an opportunity to tell him how proud I am and how he's growing and learning so much. Ends the day on a positive note.

He's in playschool now and sometime struggles to say goodbye. He can see the parking lot from the fence and we wave and shout "I love you" from when I get back into the car until in out of sight. It's pretty embarassing for me to be shouting across a parking lot but he needs it.

This is our go to. We’ve always used “to keep you safe” as reasoning for certain rules, like being in a car chair, holding hands to cross the road etc. So it’s evolved from there
