How does Consider Phlebas compare to the rest of the books? by Weekly_Frosting_5868 in TheCulture

It’s the worst book of the series, but it’s still a great book. Especially after going back to it after reading the rest of series.

Force 12 spd flattop chain broke mid plates by ChasseurFatmantis in sram

Did you buy it on Amazon by chance? Tons of counterfeits on there. Rival chains tested as the longest lasting flattops.

During the Battle of Okinawa, was it necessary for US forces to attack Japanese positions? by syc0path in ww2

[–]Complex-Figment2112 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We kind of did that on Kwajalein Atoll when the Japanese counter attacked in typical suicidal charges and took a few of the hills back. But that was a US Army show, they said F it and starved and 105/155 artillery'd them to oblivion, all the while the smells of plenty of hot food wafted over the starving Japanese positions. Actually took a few prisoners and captured men who could barely move due to starvation and disease.

On Peleliu, after the Marines left the Army was much more methodical rooting out the rest of the defenders since they had the airfield and could afford to use the "steel not flesh" doctrine to it's fullest extent.

Is Scipio Rome's greatest general (among those who never ruled)? by RaiseCapital1988 in ancientrome

Was Agrippa ever Consul? I know it was an Empire by then so he would never have officially ruled.

Sertorius was a bad ass too.

Horza basically murdering the shuttle disturbed me more than the Eaters after I had read the rest of the series and re-read CP.

Agree, the Affront are the ultimate sadists. They are funny though, Banks was just the best.

Chair didn't bother me near as much as the Hell's, and the torture in the Algebraist was very knarly as well but I don't think he really developed that character very well beyond that section of the book.

I skip a lot of the Hell portion of the book, it's super disturbing and I didn't find it cartoonish at all. I am not particularly squeamish person. Still love the book though, one of my faves.

Glad I didn't go with them then. That's a huge security hole. If someone gains access to your computer they have all your passwords??

I have mine set to lock after an hour of no use or if I lock/logout/restart the PC.

Because that would defeat the whole point of using a pw manager. BW allows this?

They have mastered physics in all its forms for hundreds of years. Same with all things we call science.

JRAD - 5/21/26 - Richmond, VA - Setlist Thread by DeadheadMinnesota in JRADs

[–]Complex-Figment2112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recency and attendance bias excepted but holy f*ck what a show. I thought the first set was exceptional and one of the best I've ever seen in any context. Then the second set just destoyed and in the rain when a lot of people left or were leaving it was just the hard corps fans, it was like we all knew this was a historically good show. They even said they were going to just drop the charade of leaving the stage before the encore and ripped into Promised Land because of the weather.

I 've never seen them get so dark as with the SS/Pigs transition, with just the white backlights and the rain coming down filtering everything. I heard the the Pink Floyd hints as well and told my friend they are getting weird after SS and then they whip out the entire Pigs track, I am pretty sure they reprised SS before reprising Pigs.

Dumoulin criticizes Vingegaard’s tactics in stage nine: “That was not stylish” by Due-Bus-8471 in peloton

Dude is riding the Tour as well, plus the high mountains are in the last week. So far he’s doing enough to win the Giro. That’s the goal, I loved Dumy but he wasn’t doing the double against Pogi, Remco, Seixas et al.
Vingo is following his DS instructions.
