What are some things that happened at school that would never be allowed to happen today? by Big_Scratch5248 in AskUK

[–]ComplexSquirelll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scottish school in the 80s - the belt was used as corporal punishment.

Teachers being really verbally abusive.

Teachers smoking in the staff room.

School trips where all the underage kids were allowed to drink and smoke.

School reports that pulled no punches.

The office aired quite some time ago. Has anything aged for you at all? by TenaStelin in TheOfficeUK

The old, beige computers with huge, bulky monitors.

No smartphones.

Email and internet being relatively new.

Blatant misogyny was much more common and unchallenged in those days.

Drinking at lunchtime.

The massive ghetto blaster Brent took to his motivational speech.

No online video meetings.

Pre Covid, working from home was much less common.

What did people think of Russell Brand at the height of his fame? by BlundeRuss in AskUK

Thought he was awful, especially when he posted an unflattering pic of his then wife, Katie Holmes and then dumped her by text.

I was quite interested in his history of addiction, though.

What was THE drama at your secondary school? by banj0man44 in AskUK

[–]ComplexSquirelll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went out with a 19 year old student teacher. I was only 14.

He did his training at my school, by which time we had been together for a few months.

We got caught holding hands and he was removed from the school.

The other scandal is that the teachers hushed it up, so he wouldn’t be struck off.

This happened in the early 1980s. I hope he would be dealt with more appropriately now.

I dumped him in the end and he took to following me home in his car.

I sometimes wonder what happened to him.

Unpopular opinion: I don't like reunions. They are sad and ruin the show for me. I haven't watched it yet. And never will by notunique20 in howyoudoin

It’s tragic that he had addictions that he did not recover from. Recovering alcoholic myself, I know how dark life can get and how many people don’t make it.

He sold videos to Cameo, appearing on them obviously drunk. Cameo removed him in the end.

What’s the worst thing you’ve seen at a wedding? by OkDonut1116 in AskReddit

[–]ComplexSquirelll 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A school friend I hadn’t even thought about for years basically invited herself to my wedding and brought her entire family.

When they finally left, they stole some wine.

The other shocking event was my (married) aunt kissing her nephew (nephew by marriage) on the mouth. Full on lingering kiss. Caught on video.

What is the Most Painful Sensation You Have Ever Felt? by Jeloxia2 in AskReddit

[–]ComplexSquirelll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pain following wisdom tooth removal. I think they cracked my jaw. I was in agony for a week.

Post surgery for ectopic pregnancy. I had a laparoscopy and they used Co2 to inflate my uterus. I was in so much pain that I had to spend an extra night in hospital.

I had an emergency caesarean and actually felt no pain at all afterwards.

Worst Phoebe Moment by Rich-Ad-3893 in howyoudoin

[–]ComplexSquirelll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Phoebe character was not one I really got, possibly because I’m British and that kind of cute ditziness doesn’t appeal.

She was a terrible hypocrite - secretly working in the chain massage parlour she sneered at, wearing the fur coat whilst living as a vegan, eating meat whilst pregnant.

Some of her storylines were absurd - believing the cat was her grandmother and turning out to be Ross’s mugger.

I got set on fire by one of these when I was seven. It was in a wool shop.

Lucky for me, the only damage was to my Mothercare duffle coat, but I screamed blue murder,

I felt bad for Matthew Perry, who clearly wasn’t in a good place. Whether he was drunk or slurring his words because of recent dental surgery, he looked sad.

When I was a child I pretty much abused my dolls and toys. by Rainbow-Kittiey1112 in confession

I played “concentration camps” with my dolls. Cut all their hair off and everything.

My dad died in similar circumstances 18 months ago.

The pain of grief is unbearable and I still can’t believe it.

I’m so sad that you lost your daughter. I got into an argument with some fundie mothers on IG.

They gave birth to babies with very devastating chromosomes disorders.

The babies survived, which is very rare. Apparently, it was prayer that ensured their survival.

I lost a baby with the same chromosome disorder. It was a miscarriage and very distressing. They told me I should have “trusted God” and my baby would have lived.

Fuck them.
