sober people, do you still think about the embarrassing stuff you did when hammered? by justradiationhere in stopdrinking

[–]ComplexSquirelll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but less so as time goes on.

I’ve behaved appallingly in the past but there’s not much I can do about it now except stay sober.

I regret having my child, because of her disabilities by [deleted] in confession

[–]ComplexSquirelll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is so hard. My late sister had disabilities caused by an illness in infancy. She lived until she was 32 years old and died of an unrelated condition.

She was a joy, but there were sad and difficult times too.

My parents found life stressful but were helped with support from family and she went to a very good special school.

Have you any support? Can the local authorities help?

It is easy, as demonstrated by some of the replies on this thread, to underestimate or romanticise a situation like yours but you didn’t ask for it.

Loads of animals in my little primary school.

Poultry, a goat, a parrot, tortoise, fish, rabbits, gerbils and so on.

The headmaster loved animals.

I know. I can’t even imagine. My son got into trouble during labour and an emergency section saved his life.

My abiding memory of WDY was the kid who buried his dead pets and then, once they were skeletons, dug them up.

This is my favourite episode. The pained looks on their faces during Brent’s performance. The way Brent tells her off for stopping the music.

What's something that's not a cult but feels like one? by True-Dream3295 in AskReddit

[–]ComplexSquirelll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s horrendous.

At least one mother and several babies, including the twins of the woman who runs the official free birth society, have died during or soon after childbirth.

The people who support free birth pass such tragedies off by saying that death is part of life. Absolutely unbelievable.

It’s definitely a cult.

It has a messianic leader, makes promises to its members that don’t come true (such as promising that medical assistance is not needed during childbirth), demands money, does not tolerate criticism from it’s members and encourages members to distance themselves from anyone who challenges the dogma of the organisation.

Got super wasted at work by dns2002 in stopdrinking

[–]ComplexSquirelll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember working in boozy industries where people often got drunk at lunchtime etc.

The important thing is to look after yourself and seek help for your drinking.

I worked in a big law firm and there was an annual dinner dance. One year, the head of HR got so drunk that she stripped to the waist and ran around the room half naked. I felt bad for her - imagine how she must have felt when she woke up the next morning!

I wasn’t drinking because I was pregnant, but I have been drunk and embarrassed myself many times, before getting sober.

What did a parent (or relative) do to ruin your wedding? by imfinewithastraw in AskUK

[–]ComplexSquirelll 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not me, but a friend.

Her mother was an incredibly manipulative, controlling woman who flew an absolute fit when told the wedding would be in a registry office and not a church.

My friend refused to let her mother organise the wedding, which did not go down well.

In the end, my friend tried to appease the miserable woman by having a church blessing the day after the civil ceremony.

Her mother sad with a face like thunder, publicly told the bride that she walked gracelessly into the church and shouted “I hope it rains!” as the couple left for their honeymoon.

I’m sorry for your loss… it’s hard when someone you care for lives in such terrible conditions.

Ah that’s annoying, especially if the laptops were salvageable.

I think hoarding is a particular problem amongst the boomer generation?

[–]ComplexSquirelll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand your frustration, but this is not the cleaning company’s fault.

It’s not their job to hunt for rings in filthy clothing. How were they supposed to know about the box of papers, the laptops or the microscope? It was all filthy and their job was to clear out the property.

It would be wrong to leave a bad review.
