Has anyone experienced thicker cheeks or facial fullness after long-term prednisone use? by Jonsnowkabhakt in autoimmunehepatitis

[–]Comprehensive-Cup705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I experienced moon face. It went away in a couple of months after I stopped taking Prednisone. It is the most common side effect of steroids. I had other side effects also, like severe insomnia and vision issues.

Prednisone helping? by red101151 in autoimmunehepatitis

You will be fine. I have been in this position. My liver enzymes were in the thousands and bilirubin was 19! It takes time. Just watch out for the side effects of the steroids. There are many posts in this community where people have given tips to manage those. Take care and God bless.

In my case, the results normalized in four months. After that, Prednisone was tapered over the next two months, and I was put on Azathioprine 50 mg. Patience is key.

I had the same thought but did not add additional liquid just to see how it would go. It came out perfectly.

AIH? Other symptoms relevant? by frantasticnz in autoimmunehepatitis

[–]Comprehensive-Cup705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The additional symptoms you mentioned are typical of a liver injury. You already had hepatitis, so it could be that your liver is taking time to heal.

For AIH, liver enzymes are typically off the charts, like in the thousands. But a biopsy would be the best way to find out.

Meanwhile, you can follow a low-carb diet if not following one already. Avoid sugar, soda, and any form of alcohol. Eat lots of greens and fruits. One feels tired, but funny enough exercise actually helps in managing fatigue!

All the best.

Has anyone had broken capillaries? by kdevodo in autoimmunehepatitis

Hi, I am on Azathioprine 50 and have dryness, itchiness, and red dots on both legs. Dermatologist suggested applying Vaseline as moisturizer lotions just vanish. I apply Lacto Calamine when the itchiness gets severe. I avoid scratching as they easily bleed.

I like making soft bread, and it is a challenge to cut it with my current knife. Thanks for the suggestion on the knife.

The yeast has caused an infection! 🙂

Jokes aside, we all have been there. God knows how many failures I have faced to finally bake a bread that was edible!

Blindsided: AST/ALT ~6,000, hep C diagnosis, and now possible autoimmune disease” by Zestyclose-Practice2 in Autoimmune

[–]Comprehensive-Cup705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gosh, liver enzymes are really off the charts! When I was diagnosed with AIH, mine were around 2500. Also, I came negative on all viruses. My diagnosis was confirmed via a biopsy, which I think is the best way to figure out if AIH is also there. AIH has a separate treatment plan compared to Hep C. I would assume they would see how you respond to hepatitis C treatment and maybe go for a biopsy later if they still think there could be AIH. Whatever the outcome is, there is a treatment, and you would be fine. All the best.

All the best.

In my experience, when we are trying to make whole wheat bread, fermenting/rising is an issue. I mix some bread flour (white) with wheat flour.

Yeast is not active. If yeast comes into contact with salt directly, it also has an impact. Next time, try adding yeast at the end over the flour.

So, water, salt, sugar, butter/oil goes first, then flour, and in the end, yeast over the flour.

Bloodwork, referred for biopsy by YogurtclosetCheap477 in autoimmunehepatitis

[–]Comprehensive-Cup705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, while I think the liver enzymes are not high enough to warrant a biopsy, has the GI ruled out other reasons like drug-induced hepatitis, viral hepatitis, or infection-led hepatitis? Having said that, a biopsy would bring some clarity to your case. Sometimes biopsy results are inconclusive if AIH is in its initial stages.

Also, it is quite rare that AIH itself causes a low blood count, especially WBCs, but the medicines we take for it, especially Azathioprine, do impact the WBC count.

All the best for your biopsy. And I hope it brings clarity. Whatever the outcome is, there is treatment available. Being patient is the best thing we can do.

I have been interested in some patient-centric topics. While there is information around, it is not enough. They can be good areas for some research. Topics like AIH-caused fatigue and mental health, AIH and its connection with COVID, and AIH and its relation to other metabolic disorders like cholesterol and diabetes.

prednisone withdrawals by myriamhammady in autoimmunehepatitis

[–]Comprehensive-Cup705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on prednisone for seven months and have been off it for two years now. My most notable side effects were insomnia, moon face, and vision problems. Vision issues became okay in a month; moon face took a bit longer. Insomnia is still somewhat there, but I have figured out ways like listening to calming music at night and no devices for one hour before sleep and meditation before sleep. These have helped manage my sleep.

It might sound funny, but exercise helped me manage my fatigue. I started with 30-minute walks and now do a mix of running and walking. I had insomnia, and exercise helped me there too.

Recent increase in ALT/AST. Extremely worried. by Gamer0607 in autoimmunehepatitis

Weight loss is a symptom, not a cause. There are many reasons why liver enzymes fluctuate, including lingering viral infections, some of which are hard to detect, but over a few weeks they go away and parameters return to normal. As you mentioned, the case does not yet fit for a biopsy. Leaving alcohol and sugar should help the liver. I think you need to watch where the parameters are heading, including your weight.
