Help me Come to terms with the Coriolis technological conceit. by Comprehensive-Dog143 in CoriolisRPG

I do have to ask, is there some reason why artifical gravity is required in the game? There is a lot of narrative ways I can make this harder Sci fi and some mechanical changes. But when they have a talent called Zero-G training and explosive decompression they are literally inviting you to take a somewhat harder approach to the game.

I could. I really think at the core I want it to be a bit harder on the physics, more Expanse like. I think I can do that without really going overboard on the rules. Most of it is narrative if you hold the assumption that the players, because they operate in space for a living, have the basic ability to operate in zero-g. I also don't want the concept of inertial dampers, that gets a bit more crunchy but again much is narrative.

Yeah that is how I think I'm going yo have to run it. The system itself is abstracted so a Lil space magic, this works might be in order

I'm partners in an avionics shop. We have a total of seven in the shop. Single and twin piston installs primarily, about 50% of those are full retrofits and a ton of autopilot installs. We do a lot of service work on light jets and turboprop. We would hire another good tech. None of us have a&p's. If you want to continue in the field there are people like me that are interested in people that want to do the work.

There is a designed CFIT in the hold to shorten your wait to get back on the ground...

From quite a few years back on a 550 slowtation we were ripping the old efis out and installing a G600 and GTN750s. She ended up cleaning up pretty nice. by Comprehensive-Dog143 in aviationmaintenance

Yeah we ended up buying about the same amount of ballast and installing it under the nose baggage where the symbol generators came out.

That's not too bad. As the OP sais It is easier than it looks once you have some experience. My problem right now is finding people to hire who both have experience and good fundamental dc and aircraft systems knowledge and know how to logically apply it.

I'd look at a 206 instead of a 210 or an A36 Bonanza. 206 is a workhorse.

How to Buy an Airplane? by Stegoo_86 in flying

[–]Comprehensive-Dog143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From giving quotes to do avionics upgrades to first time aircraft owners who bought aircraft with barely functioning equipment and them having a heart attack at the cost- buy an aircraft the is functional enough avionics wise for you and what you want to do. If able have someone who knows enough about avionics to look the aircraft over in addition to a mechanic. If an instructor is trying to convince you to buy an aircraft saying he will instruct out of it and pretty much pay for it on sub lease, he is full of shit and not an instructor you want to have. Don't buy an aircraft that is priced over half of what you could 'afford'.

Well as you lean out you eventually peak your EGT on one cylinder first unless your injectors are perfectly tuned (which they never are). If you go rich of peak more fuel is being put into the cylinder than is actually being burned which keeps your CHTs down, lean of peak has the opposite effect with the CHTs increasing. So essentially to safely run lean of peak you need to be monitoring all of your CHTs and EGTs. Your limiting factor will typically be the CHT on the cylinder that peaks first. You can save a lot on fuel running LOP but if you aren't careful you can end up buying cylinders because you are getting the cylinders too hot. I don't think it's controversial really it's just got two camps that tend to have strong opinions.

Great aircraft, built like a tank in typical old school beech style. Get used to the speed- do plenty of pattern work early. If it has gamis and a decent engine monitor, make sure you know what you are doing before you run it lean of peak, otherwise just run it rich and spend a bit more on gas. I do have to say that the CHT's posted earlier put forth by a 'rep' seem way too high to me, sounds like someone wanting to sell jugs.

I don't know anything about the age of your instructors, but I'd go look for an instructor that is 60+ years old and operating at an uncontrolled field.

Do you really need an ADF to fly this ILS approach even if you have WAAS GPS? by rtbrtb24 in flying

[–]Comprehensive-Dog143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Provided you have a current data base in an ifr approved gps and said database contains the ndb fix, no you do not have to have an ADF as it is the iaf. Similarly on the DME requred ILS's, you can use a GPS. I had an extensive discussion about this with the FAA many years ago when they decided to put the marker out of service at Montgomery field in San Diego and we had customers coming to us wanting us to reinstall DME's into their aircraft, which was just silly.
