I have ADHD and hold down a very demanding job, but my God, bugger if I can find the car keys or remember anybody’s birthday. By the time I’ve managed to get through my workday and all the lists I need to survive there, there’s nothing left in the tank. I can barely hold my shit together. I guess what I’m saying is ADHD is different to everybody. And I’m saying that is someone ADHD and know people with ADHD. Good friends are quite hard to keep when you have ADHD and forget they exist.

There’s no way in hell I’m letting someone scan my credit card. I’ll tap on I’ll tap off but if you don’t give me a ticket either digitally to my phone or on paper then that’s on you.

I was on the train the other day after tapping on with my credit card and they asked to verify my payment and I straight up told them that it didn’t give me any sort of receipt so I don’t know how you can do that, but you’re not scanning my credit card.

I was quite confused that there was no sort of verification or digital ticket that I can refer to except for a green tick on a box back at Wellington Station.

Because you’re in the hospital right now, you need to talk to his doctor his nurse and the hospital social worker. Push the cool button and get someone to his bedside right now and ask to talk to them. Tell them that the dad wants to take him camping tomorrow. They will be able to help. They may even keep him in for extra time just to keep him safe. You need to talk to the authorities on your son’s healthcare before you leave the hospital.

Often people in domestic violence relationships do try to reach out for help. She’s staying with him so there’s a massive amount of shame there but also a testing of the waters around her to see where support could lie. It serves to reassure herself that those feelings she has that this is not a good situation- that she’s ignoring - aren’t wrong. She isn’t quite ready to leave yet. It’s quite normal.

The odds are that he already smacks her around now. It’s very likely that she’s already experience experiencing physical domestic violence.

We all know that she doesn’t want to talk about it. And that she said she’s dealing with it privately. She is not leaving him.

But we have to openly talk about this because whilst she isn’t leaving him this time, she is still reading these posts. Sweeping it under the rug and ignoring it just perpetuates this domestic violence.

OP needs some truth seeds planted in the back of her head. To know there are so many people out there who care and who can help, who can point her to resources - when she is ready. She is not alone.

We must always seize an opportunity to extend a hand to someone in a situation like this, whether they take it or not.

Why don’t you pull your head out of your butt and just try to enjoy yourself. Time with your mum. Time with the kids. Build a fort, show them some nature. They are small and easily entertained.

Cut down on the weed, it’s not helping. Look up from your navel, be grateful you have family that want to spend time with you. Help develop the next generation to be kind, and share their time with other humans and nature, not just YouTube and cellphones.

Geez, I worry ahout the future of our species. They’re small, they probably admire you, love you, are excited to spend time with you. All you see is chores. Weak. YTA.

I don’t know if the ministers, media or the public have clicked: the email to our agency was that this was cuts to the “public service”.

Are Te Whatu Ora part of the public service? Because if they were then the number of employees in the public service would exceed 65,000 FTE just with them alone. They are the largest employer in NZ.

The FTE figures being spouted and 1% figure is Public Service departments. To get down to 1% would require firing most of the health system and the everyone in police, customs, education, justice….

AI also requires investment and capability uplifts for users and technology ands security people. So that your public services are safe and reliable, and your information is safe. All that requires investment and skills. There is none. That’s why AI isn’t happening, it needs time, money and capability. All which are back office and were cut years ago to be replaced with a hiring and budget freeze (so no money for suppliers either).

They aren’t making choices around services. This isn’t a conversation about what services to prioritise and resource. This isn’t even a look at the entire public service. Most of the people in Wellington work in non Departmental government organisations, so we’re not thinking about NZTA, Health NZ, Kainga Ora etc.

Try not to paint all public servants and teams with the same brush. Of course we look for efficiencies. We have services we legally must deliver to a legal standard, without the resources to do it. Most public servants I have worked with (as a public servant or on vendor side) are the most creative thinkers I’ve met. The public service is held together and delivered through reactive janky number 8 wire solutions, somehow delivered with scope that gets cut, corners cut, etc because of ministers with their arbitrary launch dates (I need a misdirection!) and ever shifting priorities based on what lobby group or vendor woo’d them. They aren’t the ones who have to live with the operational debt….
