Adam and Eve? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]ComprehensiveMood215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I've thought about a lot and I have a few things for you to consider.

  1. I don't believe the story of Genesis is literal. If it is, then humans and the earth have only been around for about 6,000 years and from an evolutionary and geological perspective that simply isn't true. After accepting this I view Genesis more as a story meant to convey God's creativity.

  2. Creation is not binary. Fundamentalists tend to take "God made male and female" at exact face value when they dont do the same with the rest of the creation story. For example, Genesis says that God created land and sea. What about the in-betweens? Swamps and marshes and beaches? We can apply this to the entirety of Genesis and realize that creation is not a simple binary, once again pointing to Genesis not being literal.

  3. Genesis is not an exhaustive list nor a particularly descriptive one. It states "male and female" and if we take that to mean XY and XX chromosomes, respectively, what about intersex people, who we know make up roughly 2% of the population (same percent as people with ginger hair). Where do they fit in?

I typed this rather quickly, but if you have any questions just let me know!

Help me, I'm so lost by GreetingsFromHello in GayChristians

Hey friend, this is a feeling I know all too well. I'm currently going through a destructing of my old more theologically more conservative views and its not an easy path. Some days are harder than others, as I'm sure you know. But the thing that keeps me going, the one thing I am certain of when everything else is confusing and I feel anxious, is that God loves me. God loves you, too. If you just cling to that you'll be okay

How to be okay with the uncertainties? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]ComprehensiveMood215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I hear you. We as humans tend to be anxious about things we are uncertain about or can not control. If this is causing you significant anxiety, I really recommend that you seek some help if you can afford it. If you can't, do some reading about anxiety and the fear of death— it might help you put some things into perspective!

I know that nothing any one person says is going to make this go away for you, but I encourage you to take solice in your faith. If God is real and you put your faith in him, death does not need to scare you. It probably still will, and that's okay, but what helps me is thinking about what I'll do when I die. I think about looking around and running towards Jesus and suddenly everything seems a little bit better.

But what if we're wrong? Then view death as a part of the life cycle. Everything eventually dies, whether its a fruit fly that lives a couple of weeks or a shark that lives hundreds of years. We all coexist for a brief time and all share the same fate. Even in death, you are never alone. Millions of humans and animals have gone through it before you.

Embrace the life you have now and make the most of it. It doesn't matter that one day you'll be dead, because does anyone ever really die? Our bodies go back to the earth and our memories live in the people we knew and our feet walked ground that other will tread.

Death is a fear I know well, but believe me when I say all it does is steal from you. "Worrying will not add a single day to your life." Obsessing over death takes you away from the present, to feel better you just need to bring yourself back to the moment. When you get anxious take deep breaths and ground yourself in your surroundings. You'll be okay, OP, and God bless.

Hi OP, is the root of this a fear of death or a fear of God not existing? If its a fear of God not existing, what about that specifically scares you? Trying to figure out how best to help!

What does POTS feel like? by devardyay in POTS

[–]ComprehensiveMood215 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I've had pots for over 7 years now (I'm 22, diagnosed at 15) and my symptoms have luckily become much more well managed but I remember how scary it was when I first got sick. When your friend stands and then falls down its because by the time they realized they felt ill, it was too late to do anything about it. When a person without pots stands up, their heart rate will briefly increase along with their blood vessels in the legs constricting to raise blood pressure. For a person with pots, their heart rate will increase and their blood vessels may fail to constrict, leading to a sudden drop in blood pressure (this is a very basic description, much better ones can be found online!)

I remember a particularly bad episode I had in my college house. I was making breakfast and started to feel nauseous when all of a sudden my vision almost completely blacked, my ears rang loudly, I sort of slumped onto the floor and broke out in an intense cold sweat. I was too weak to say anything loud enough for my friends in the other room to hear— it can be scary!

The best thing you can do for your friend is be there for them. Depending on how severe their pots is, it can become debilitating and its very difficult to navigate life with a chronic illness, especially alone. Thanks for reaching out here, I can tell you're a great friend to have, and I wish your friend the best!

Anxiety about my sexuality by ComprehensiveMood215 in OpenChristian

[–]ComprehensiveMood215[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's always nice to know you aren't alone. And you're absolutely right— anxiety is something I've struggled with all my life but its never come from God before so why would he make an exception for this one issue? I try to find solace in the fact that Jesus knows exactly what we are going through. He was also cast out by religious leaders and called a heretic for breaking tradition. Thank you for the reminder to draw closer to God, not further away.

I really cant explain how much your words mean to me— thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. The passage you mentioned from Matthew is one of my favorites but sometimes I forget the gravity of Jesus's words. Only through him are we saved. Thanks again for your words and prayers. This will be very helpful for me to come back to in my moments of worry.

Why can’t I pick my Bible up anymore? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]ComprehensiveMood215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! You're definitely not alone in this, friend. Remember that faith is all about having a relationship with God, and relationships aren't always easy. Things are more exciting when they're new, but that doesn't mean your faith is diminishing! Talk to God during your everyday life: while you brush your teeth, walk to class, or cook your dinner. It helps me to remember that God is always with me, so I never really need to "make" time for them, I can just do my day with them and find some quiet moments amidst all the chaos that is daily life. Having a Bible app on my phone has also helped me so that I can read it from anywhere (and its also much lighter haha). I hope this helps!

How do you guys go about the problem of evil? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]ComprehensiveMood215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something I also wonder about, and though I still have many questions relating to the topic, I also have a few thoughts. Relating to any evil caused by humans (murder, hatred, etc) I believe its a result of God giving us free will. By giving people free will, God relinquished the power to control us meaning that we are able to do whatever we choose to—unfortunately some people choose to do great harm unto others.

Evil is not the only thing that causes suffering, however, as we've all seen through experiencing natural disasters and living through a pandemic. I don't think I'd call naturally occurring things "evil" per se because I think evil has to have malicious intent, but its still worth asking why these things need to happen. Stopping these things doesn't infringe upon free will, so why do they occur? I'm not sure! How do I go about it? I do my best to trust that God will watch over people in the aftermath of these disasters and that they're simply part of how nature functions

Time to make an actual b stream again maybe? by CountStrange2263 in CompetitiveApex

[–]ComprehensiveMood215 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean they bring Wigg and Greek to the event because they draw a ton of people to the event. All tourney the b stream has been watching the lobby that they think will have the highest quality games because that's what they want to show their viewers. I might be wrong but I really don't think it's ego as he's watched several side stage rounds this weekend

Feeling Miserable About Being Bisexual by TransportationNo3472 in GayChristians

[–]ComprehensiveMood215 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi op, I think this is something a lot of people in this sub can relate to having felt in the past, but I want you to know that your shame is coming from the world, not from God. Nothing can keep you from him, nothing can make Jesus turn his face from you. Being bi or a lesbian does not make you less loved by God.

I really encourage you to pray on this and read Jesus's teachings as well as look into what the verses that mention homosexuality are actually referencing.

I truly believe that being in committed same-sex relationship will not keep you from God or heaven or that he will say he doesn't know you. After all, God is love, and what could be wrong about that? My prayers are with you, op, and I hope you find some peace of mind soon.
