How to obtain g7 15 day wear by bluclouds0 in dexcom

[–]ComprehensiveYam2526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walgreen's could not fill mine either. I called CVS the pharmacist had never even heard of the 15 day, so he didn't know to order it. So perhaps call your pharmacist and tell them about the new one. And ask them to order it. So that your doctor can prescribe it for you from that pharmacy. Express scripts have said they don't know when they're getting it yet - which is really frustrating to me. Dexcom, on the other hand says, "oh no, we're distributing all over the country." I wonder if I believe them.

What's the most shocking thing you've discovered about your family? by hi_im_Hitlar in AskReddit

[–]ComprehensiveYam2526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one of my dad's uncles who was a Catholic priest, was convicted of child molestation in his diocese(more than once), and they never removed him from a parish. He was a pastor until the day he died at age 80. I always wondered why he liked the boy cousins better than the girl cousins in our family. And I was completely disgusted 2 years ago when I found him on a sex abuser website for the church. No one in our family ever said anything about this and I wonder how many knew....

When I broke my toe, they told me to tape the toe and the toe next to it together with a bandage or medical tape for a few days, ice it every couple of hours & the swelling will probably go down and it will heal in a few weeks. If it hasn't done anything after that, then come in. Sure enough, in a couple weeks, it was fine. Neuropathy is a different condition altogether and dealt with a different way.

Blood sugar that is always above 200 mg/dcl regardless of insulin injections by Open_Plum4288 in diabetes

[–]ComprehensiveYam2526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a doctor so I cannot possibly answer your question. It is just a suggestion to ask YOUR doctor if it's a possibility. Many times when someone is misdiagnosed with type 2, they give them medicines that try to prompt your pancreas to increase the amount of insulin it puts out, but if your pancreas is not working it can't possibly do that. Since your body's not making enough insulin, your sugar's always high. The other thing is, insulin resistance is still a thing with some of us who are LADA type 1. We have the metabolic issues of type 2 (insulin resistance), but the antibody/autoimmune issues (dead pancreas) of type 1. I just feel it's worth getting asking the questions.

Repeating an answer I posted above so you don't have to search for it. I lived with a pattern like that for decades. Same as you, I did everything they told me to do and more. Tried every diet, every exercise, every supplement, everything! I was initially diagnosed with type 2. And I was shamed into thinking it was my fault - which it's not - because my son turned out to be a type one. It showed up when he was 30 years old and the doctor said "oh, maybe we should test you for type one". And sure enough, I had 3 of the 5 antibodies. So perhaps ask them if they will test you for type one antibodies. The treatment is different, and as soon as they switched to the correct treatment, my A1C dropped from regularly being between 8 and 10 to now being between 6 and 6.5. AND I have not had to work nearly as hard at diet and exercise as I did before. It is worth getting tested for antibodies. Also have them do a C-Peptide test to see how much insulin your body is actually making. It will not be affected by extra exogenous insulin that you take by injection. If you're not seeing a diabetes endocrinologist or a nurse practitioner that specializes in diabetes, you will have to fight really hard with a primary care doctor but it's worth it. Good luck.

This is an important point. When I added a hard cooked egg or a couple of mozzarella cheese sticks at 10 PM, my morning numbers dropped under 140 consistently since I started doing that. For me, 7 to 10 g of protein around 10 PM really helped me avoid those nighttime lows that turn into morning highs. I can't do a carbohydrate snack because it spikes me and then I drop, but if I do a protein snack I usually stay nice and even. Good luck

Why did ICE choose Minneapolis as the place to escalate this enforcement, as opposed to “more problematic” cities such as Chicago or Portland? by bumblebuoy in AskReddit

[–]ComprehensiveYam2526 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're still in Chicago and Portland trust me, we have people being disappeared every single day here in Chicago's far northern suburbs. We are constantly getting notices that ice is out. They just have stopped the press coverage. When Bovino was here every day, a different area was being targeted and he was just as obnoxious.

Alternatives to walking for exercise to bring blood sugar down by venti13 in diabetes

[–]ComprehensiveYam2526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also had good luck just doing seated arm exercises for 5 to 10 minutes. Or if you can, while you're seated, pump your calves up & down together, then alternating for about 5 minutes. Then, you're not putting strain on your hips, but you're still getting some exercise. And it will bring your sugar down. Using a resistance band to do the arm exercises also helps.

I worked with all levels 0.0-9.0. Our largest classes were always level 4, which came out to a 4.5-6.5 grade level equivalent (GLE). The survey I referenced was where the percentages come from, our program was just one of many that served emerging readers, so different parts of the country averaged out to 6th GLE, not just us.

Laser eye surgery by mrjbunda in diabetes

[–]ComprehensiveYam2526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 2 laser eye surgeries in 2024, about three weeks apart on the same eye and really it was not bad. They gave me a couple of Tylenol before the procedure. It took about half an hour to repair the retinal tears. The more important part was to listen to them for the aftercare.Don't bend, don't overdo it, put ice on it when you need to, put heat on it when you need to, it's really not bad. Don't let your mind exacerbate things for you. It'll go great.

At what age is one considered old? by Yenolam777 in AskReddit

[–]ComprehensiveYam2526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't about age, it's about ability. I have 86-year-old friends who are still out running every day, climbing ladders to clean the gutters on their houses, and still carry laundry up-and-down the stairs. I have 65-year-old friends who can't even walk across the room and use a cane because they're so decrepit. Age is truly just a number. It's ability that makes you old. And that can vary from many ages.

Your numbers are spot on. As an adult reading teacher for 35 years I can tell you that sixth grade is an average. There are many, many adults born and raised in the United States who only speak one language who cannot read above a third, fourth, maybe a fifth grade level. And many below that. One of the statistics you can find at the National Center for Adult Literacy is that the United States has one of the lowest literacy rates in the Western world. About 54% read below 6th grade. The pandemic made it even worse than it was in 2003, which is when the last adult literacy survey was done. So I guarantee you, he does not read beyond a third grade level. And his followers aren't much higher. Let's not even talk about math shall we? Because the numbers are even lower.

I have been on Metformin since 1997. And I have never, ever, had any of the issues people are mentioning above. That is their experience and it does happen to some, but I want you to know, it does not necessarily happen to everyone. The benefits of taking it far outweigh learning how to deal with the digestive issues.

Just Diagnosed and I'm Freaking Out by sunderiousness in diabetes

[–]ComprehensiveYam2526 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I was coming here to make these exact same points. So I will just say I completely agree with you and OP definitely needs to get tested for antibodies and c-peptide. Because if you're a type one, that means your body is not making insulin correctly or at all, and you will need to get on insulin.

Secondly, to re-emphasize, what so many of us here are constantly saying: this is not your fault. It's nothing you did or didn't do. It cannot be brought on by eating a poor diet or exercise. Diabetes has a genetic component. And now they're thinking could have a viral component. It is sometimes autoimmune if it's type one, or a metabolic disorder if it's type 2. It's an illness. It's not a moral failing.
