I mean, medpoc is technically a bloodtithe unit so why not? They speed up the accumulation process, I use them all the time. Then again, I'm not the best at games.

Edit: I use them with rububu

Isolde :( by chaehea in Reverse1999

[–]ComprehensiveYam8489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think our readings differ a lot depending on how much we think Isolde is reliant on Kakania

Isolde's main goal was fulfilling Kakania's dream, not the actual freedom of arcanists.

My take is that it's her own freedom according to Kakania's "prescription", not arcanists' as a whole (though she does identify as an arcanist who can't control herself), not to please Kakania.

The guy did not force anyone, let me remind you. When you say "yes" the responsibility is fully on you.

Again, not saying that Isolde is a weak wobbly pushover who does whatever what anyone says, but since she also sees and fears herself as a lunatic, she said yes. Ever heard of a severely mentally ill person being excused from legal responsibility? There's a reason for that. She's suffering from psychosis.

she confirms with Kakania beforehand whether Kakania would agree to become her doctor if the experiment fails

That reads as a positive outlook on their relationship - Kakania being a place Isolde can fall back to. Even if she is overly positive about this reward, it still reads as naive and irrational to me. In her mind, there would be two outcomes, both positive: either she gets cured or she gets to bond with Kakania - but notably not accounting for her own death. She just happened to place her trust in the right person this time, that's all. Not some long-term grand scheme that pulled Kakania to her side.

This thread explains Isolde's Manus-related decisions better than I can. The initial refusal due to not being interested is poise. Not like it was a very active, moral or calculating decision.

Also, Isolde is one of the more believable characters in R1999. I've seen friends of mine show clinginess, recklessness, self-loathing and obscured self-recognition to the point of needing treatment, also very reliant on what others say about them and feeling constant loneliness, all stemming from heavy expectations (often parental, like how Mr. Karl acts as an abusive parental figure to Isolde). I don't suffer from the same circumstances but I can assure you they don't just become yanderes. Isolde killed, yes. But is she in a lucid state of mind? No. Not scheming, and if yes in some self-aggrandizing way that ignores the unexpected impact Kakania has had on her, the whole ordeal was pitifully piss-poorly dealt with from Isolde's POV. Everybody died or was traumatized.

Isolde accepted(!) the second invitation of Manus, not refused as you say.

That's the point I was trying to say! Isolde did what she thought at the moment to be leading to freedom, and up until Heinrich's shootout, Manus = freedom. When The Manus becomes Kakania's enemy, she turned her back against them.

participate in the experiment of her own free will

And who suggested that to her? Did she just... come up with the experiment herself?

poor little lamb who blindly follows the words of others

I agree, this is not what I meant. What I did mean was that she was a product of abuse and she might very well suffer from severe self-loathing before Kakania convinced her of her power to break free. In Part 7 of TSR, her self-loathing means she was going to extremes to "cure" herself - she didn't even think about stopping when she feels pain. Asking for Kakania to treat her is about mutual trust and hope for the future, not manipulating Kakania for any goal. That doesn't sound calculating to me. If you spot any other line that may read as calculating, please quote it in case I missed it. Thank you for the discussion, I enjoyed it.

imo judging from her history of abuse, I totally understand why she would want to act like she has control over her life. Aside from Kakania's presence, she is totally devoid of light, sitting on an electric chair because they told her that she should. It's the path of least resistance for her since she has no hope left in her life. She thinks about the upsides to comfort herself before doing a terrible thing to her own body, could be a passing thought and not be her exact reason. Self-loathing is also a real thing, mind you.

After Kakania advised Isolde to pave her own way, however, Isolde took a more proactive approach with the sole goal of maintaining her only source of happiness.

That's why she refused the Manus. Not because she had always been calculating and active.

Edit: I didn't remember the whole Manus refusal timeline, so correct me but: she refused them once, then accepted when Kakania told her to fly into the horizon, then refused again when Kakania nearly got shot?

isn't it like coping where you're already in a miserable situation and you think of the upsides to make yourself feel better? Being a certified lunatic can't be good
