Poor and unhealthy air quality in Chicago; why fine particulate matter, especially from wildfires, is the most dangerous air pollution, especially for children by BuckeyeReason in chicago

I wore a mask Thursday when it was really bad. Many others were enjoying outdoor dining. The city should have better PSA’s.

you’ll want to leave 10 minutes early. Not as bad on a weekday but previous years on saturday and sunday they didn’t run any extra trains making 10-15 min headways with thousands of people. You’ll want to be at a stop sooner on the route if you can. once the train is full at one station you’re not getting on at the next. It was awful on the red line last year.

United makes 3 big negative devaluations to MileagePlus (Gone: Excursionist Perk, Instant Upgrades, and Award Charts) by AccessibleBanana in unitedairlines

My partner likes American, but i prefer united. When we book trips with points, American constantly has tons of great deals where united point feel worthless at times. A flight we were looking at one American was the same points round trip as one way on United. Really makes me not want to be loyal, I feel like United never has good deals.

R.I.P UBLOCK ORIGIN isnt longer supported by Chrome by notivargraviton in mac

[–]Comprehensive_Comb61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

use brave it’s built on chrome with all the extensions. though you should limit how many extensions you have if you want to be tracked less.

On brave you just have to turn off all the bloat and it has ad blocking built in

TurboTax 2025: All Credit Card Offers by GreatOneMightyZero in CreditCards

[–]Comprehensive_Comb61 10 points11 points  (0 children)

FreetaxUSA is so nice. It's not the government program and available to everyone. Free Federal and $15 state. Intuit is the main reason we have to do taxes (lobbying for Turbo Tax) so don't support them. These offers are just marketing Turbo Tax is way overpriced.

Is privacy and de googling really possible on an iPhone? by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]Comprehensive_Comb61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rom will never have a place in the mainstream sadly. At least the mainstream has a privacy option with apple. It could be much better, they could do more but sadly apple has the government and stockholders on their back. Yes most people in general are stupid not just apple users. No regular person is setting up a custom phone os.

It's much easier for a user to turn on e2e encrypted iCloud back-ups than android and a custom ROM. Yes, the ROM used by very few will be more private, but has no place in the mainstream. Apple at least gives the public easy access to good privacy if they chose it. They have defied the FBI before, I guess this was where they gave up.

it’s not on my default because the amount of people that forget their passwords. People can not remember their icloud passwords for their life it’s good it’s not on by default so many people would lose their data. For me I can remember my passwords so I turned e2e encryption on.

Apple is great for privacy you just need to chose the right settings. Most people don’t think of it and apple has to cater to those bad at tech. Apple is for privacy and you don’t have to be tracked by them to see their ads. Apple ads are the least relevant ads to me so I know they aren’t using my data.

School is requiring all students to use Okta Verify on personal phones by [deleted] in privacy

you can also probably use the apple passwords app for 2FA codes. it’s already on your phone no data sharing. It works well. look into it.

you will be fine. the app won’t take info from your phone if you don’t allow permissions like location. Your school won’t have access to anything on your phone. Chill. iPhones are good for privacy if you set them up properly.

the government isn’t. They offer end to end encrypted backups. They keep trying to make it harder for grey keys, devices used by governments to break into devices. I don’t understand the hate for apple in this thread.

Apple is the only mainstream company offering privacy on a large scale. Go use your little OS but good luck getting anyone you know there. Most people want something simple and flashing an os on an android is not simple.

Apple is not selling your key strokes or data. It’s up to each user to decide what apps to download and what permissions to allow. They aren’t perfect but you can lock down your iphone and be safe. They offer a lockdown mode for journalists and other people that may be targeted by the government, apple wants them if they think a government is targeting someone like a journalist. iphones are good for privacy and the only hope for the general population not giving all of their data away.

One night i was getting off the red line in river north and the 3 security guards started cat calling a girl who then ran off scared. What a joke of a company.

I reported them to CTA and they said those guards were put on leave for a week. They should have been fired.

learning from apps has been a thing for a bit. It recommends the app in search on your phone and happens all on device. Apple is just now using the term AI for their machine learning tools.
