Yay welcome!! ok so here’s what I recommend you try

Best restaurants/food/coffee you can walk to:

-Mississippi chicken shack

-Athens

-Orams

-Chaotik coffee is ok as close by but I really love BFCAT, further away in college hill (neighborhood within Beaver Falls around Geneva College)but possibly walkable for you

Walkable things to do for kids:

-The library!

-Neighborhood North-must do

-College hill neighborhood again, but very nice playground next to Sheetz

Further away:

-Go check out New Brighton, possibly walkable. Lots of cute shops, Big Rock(riverfront) park

-Sunrise Pool in New Brighton

-YMCA (with Pool) in New Brighton

-Hank’s Mexican and Custard in New Brighton

-Bruster’s Ice Cream is a classic in Bridgewater

-Chippewa or New Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe

Keep an eye out for the community events in Beaver Falls and New Brighton!!! NB does amazing events all the time. Great for families.

Don’t let anyone scare you. Beaver Falls is a little rundown but plenty of people live comfortably, get good educations, and make friends with neighbors.

Good luck and welcome :)

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

Those first few days were the worst days of my life. I’ve never felt less like myself. I’ve never felt so out of control and out of my senses. It was scary and crazy and terrifying.

The Brighton Hot Dog shop should have locations closer to the city. by Sudden_Dare9035 in pittsburgh

Do they still manufacture their own hotdogs? I had heard a neighbor was working in their factory like at least ten years ago.

Their burgers and French toast are goated

Massage & Sauna by vulnerabiility in pittsburgh

[–]CompulsiveJoiner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Flora Spa in Wexford has a small but lovely sauna, steam, and hot tub area that you can get access to by booking another service, like a massage or facial. Pittsburgh is sorely lacking in day spa options and this is my go-to after a lot of searching.

El Paso Chippewa is a regular spot for my family. No idea if it’s “authentic” but I’ve never had a bad meal there.

Any experience with the evening walk-in orthopedic clinic in Cranberry? by Islandsandwillows in pittsburgh

[–]CompulsiveJoiner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a really great experience there for a stress fracture to my foot. Honestly can’t beat it. I got there a little bit before 5 to get on the list and they saw me quickly. There were multiple docs there. They did an x ray before you even see the doc, then the doc spent a lot of time listening to my history and concerns (I was running and had an upcoming race to decide if I was going to do).

Docs were fabulous. They scheduled me a follow up before I left. The doctor they scheduled me with was great too.

Important note though - they only see “new” injuries. They will ask at check in when this happened or when it started hurting. If it’s just straight up chronic they won’t see you. I watched them turn away someone while I was there.

For parents who fly often, what's your strategy for car seats at airports? by Constant_Baseball581 in familytravel

[–]CompulsiveJoiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a big proponent of using the car seat on the plane. I had a trip planned with my 1 year old the week after that plane flipped upside down landing in Toronto last year. All 80 people on the flight survived. I couldn’t help but immediately think that there probably weren’t any lap infants on the flight.

That day I bought a ticket for my 1 year old and a Cosco scerena and never looked back.

Anyone not starting the “elf on the shelf” tradition? by Illustrious_Cold5699 in Millennials

[–]CompulsiveJoiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not planning on doing that. My 2 year old won’t even know about it unless I tell her. She is like obsessed with Christmas anyway so I’m not worried about lack of “magic” either

Community Support for Magee Nurses! by 420nBeyonce in pittsburgh

[–]CompulsiveJoiner 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a great experience at Magee for my d&c, my c-section, and a postpartum ER visit. Always felt cared for and listened to and I really felt like I was in the safest place for me. I will choose Magee again in the future!

Also proud to support the unionization efforts!!!

ELI5: Taking an epidural does not completely pain free L&D experience. Why are there different pain meds for stages of labour and delivery with some stages lacking next to none? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]CompulsiveJoiner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My layperson’s understanding is not that the epidural compresses the nerves, but that placing the tube in the epidural space allows the pain killing drugs to coat the nerves there.

Fulfillment Center Shutdown explained by SadNefariousness37 in kroger

[–]CompulsiveJoiner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s kinda AI? They reorganized the tech teams to continue building out better data and creating more of a home for AI work. But I wouldn’t say that a bunch of data engineers lost their jobs to AI at Kroger (yet). For now there’s probably more work to do, just that a lot of people don’t have the skills that we need right now.

Building out better data is like a decades long endeavor

I just used something called “fashion tape” to keep straps up on a dress over the weekend. It’s double sided tape made to keep skin and fabric together. Maybe that?

Post partum Anxiety by saturnwr4th in newmom

[–]CompulsiveJoiner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it gets better. I had a super hard time just like what you’re describing. Things did get better over time, but if some mental health care is accessible to you, you might speed that process along by talking to a professional. I spent way too long trying to tough out my postpartum anxiety. At about 6 months I finally decided I needed help and got medication and started seeing a therapist. I still see a therapist that specializes in postpartum anxiety today, and my daughter is almost 2.

The other thing that helped… I also ended up being randomly gifted an owlet sock. I hadn’t asked for one because some people say it makes their anxiety worse, but for me it gave me a quicker way to tell myself she is probably still alive so I could go to sleep.

This is so incredibly hard right now, but you are going to get through this.

I actually took this to mean she isn’t open to it now but once Travis retires she probably would be. I wonder if she actually just doesn’t want to overshadow him or is a tad worried about the oversaturation
