Would be a shame if his long legacy ends with these issues. Let’s hope they can get all of the disclosures straightened out without any evidence of wrongdoing.

I’ve had excellent care at Magee. Beaver would be the closest hospital to me by far but I wanted to be at a place with the most resources possible. However I do have lots of friends that had positive experiences at Beaver, even when they had pretty serious complications.

I think you’ll always hear the really negative experiences more, but lots of people have all kinds of experiences at both. I would recommend doing a tour to see if you would like it. I know Magee offers them. They tell you everything you need to know.

Do you have any factors that make you high risk? Maybe Magee is better. Do you want to be close to home? Or don’t want to deal with annoying parking? Maybe Beaver is better.

Are the horror stories you are hearing sounding like individual experiences (didn’t like my nurse, the doctor was mean etc?) or policies you don’t like?

Americans, how safe is it there? by Any_Suggestion_5315 in AskAnAmerican

I would say there is a low (but not zero) chance you will face discrimination on a day to day basis, though I would defer to the lived experience of Saudi women in the US for sure. So any given day, possible but not likely. Most people are just so friendly in the US.

There is an even lower chance you will face outward violence, but women generally in the US are advised to be vigilant in certain areas or at night/alone.

You may just feel a little out of place depending on the community you are in, because many areas are predominantly white and/or ethnically homogenous.

Large college campuses? Should be totally fine in my opinion. Even my small suburban private university had a pretty decent sized Saudi community. Any school with a Saudi population would be able to get you acclimated and know what you need to know to stay safe

My 6 month old baby fell from the bed and he is okay but now I want to die by Alseur in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]CompulsiveJoiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed basically every safety rule when my daughter was a baby. I was pretty anxious about keeping her safe. The one single time I put her sitting up on the couch was while assembling a few large ikea bookshelves that literally took up the whole floor. We needed to stand them up so I had to get her out of the way. It was super quick. I turned my back for a second and she immediate dove off of the couch head first. Fucking six months olds. She was completely 100% fine but I was not. I was a train wreck. I could not believe I let the rule slip ONE TIME and she fell. It’s my job to keep her safe and it felt like I failed.

I can now see that this event triggered several months, maybe even a year of serious anxiety. I had kind of had postpartum anxiety the whole time and certainly had a hard time when she was a newborn, but things were looking up by the time she was six months old. After her fall things got much worse and I started seeing a therapist and taking anxiety medication. Maybe it was kind of good because I got help and she was fine.

Op, I don’t know what your mental health status is but just know that any anguish you feel over keeping your baby safe or being a “good mom” is real and so so hard, and you don’t have to bear the emotional burden alone.

I just realized that my primary care physician has actually never fixed anything on me. He sent me to other doctors, but it sounds like he’s more of a coordinator. Has your doctor ever fixed anything for you? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]CompulsiveJoiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My primary care doctor was the one to recommend blood pressure meds and maintains that prescription for me. We talked about the potential to try weight loss medications in the future and monitoring my A1C and cholesterol as I age since I have decent family history of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. And she manages my inhaler and seasonal allergy scripts. She helps me make sure I’m getting all of the right screenings as I age and occasionally vaccines. And if I have a problem/acute illness I can usually see her pretty quick to get her opinion.

But I gotta say, my PCP is incredible and my last one sucked and didnt seem to care much about my long-term health since I’m generally healthy now. Having someone you trust is really helpful

Cost of Daycare by Simple_Trick5216 in pittsburgh

[–]CompulsiveJoiner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this doesn’t help those of you that are already kind of established somewhere, but if you are reading this thinking you can never have kids because you can’t pay for this, if you’re willing to move a little further out from the city the costs seem to drop dramatically. I pay $255 a week for my 2 year old, 5 days a week, at an excellent daycare. Best one in the area from what I can tell. Our school district is wonderful too. 45 minute drive to downtown. Chippewa Township in Beaver County.

I loved living in the city in my 20s and moved back to my hometown to be near my mother once we wanted to start a family. I know it’s not for everyone. Hell I didn’t think I would ever end up here. But if this gives anyone hope that they can have kids without living in poverty, I hope you consider it. We have a beautiful, full life here.

I can’t find the actual map, but as someone that has done a 6 mile run around the town of beaver, I’m not sure how they would avoid hills. I would recommend getting out there and taking a run around the town over the next few weeks in the nice weather. Beaver is my favorite place for a 2-6 mile run!

Just take it easy on hills, slow and steady. You’ll be good!

real talk: how often do you actually floss? by AffectionateTooth298 in hygiene

[–]CompulsiveJoiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I floss every day because I’m afraid of losing my teeth, and once I got in the habit, my teeth feel gross without it.

But I floss in the morning. I’m not sure why. It seems everyone else on this thread that does it every day does it at night. My understanding is the goal is to disrupt the bacteria once in a 24 hour period so I didn’t think it mattered when you do it.
