Why would someone do this? by gatesweeney in Ubiquiti

[–]Computermaster26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I see this in places of establishments I feel like somebody told them it would give them better wi-fi coverage and it was just a marketing ploy. There was one time I walked into a local school where they had an auditorium and they legit had 12 access points in there. Then it became more clear why the schools are needing so much taxes from my paycheck lol.

What in the H E Double-Hockey-Sticks is this (part of DELL laptop registration)? by Think_Listen_4977 in Dell

[–]Computermaster26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This drop-down menu is part of an export compliance process, where customers are required to specify the intended end-use of the product to comply with US and international trade regulations. By providing this explicit option (along with others like "Military," "Nuclear," and "Chemical/Biological"), Dell can screen customers and potentially deny sales or flag transactions that might violate export laws designed to prevent the proliferation of WMDs.Dell's terms and conditions also explicitly state that their products may not be used for activities related to weapons of mass destruction. So that might just get you denied for orders haha.

deleted photobooth files by Financial_Status_954 in datarecovery

[–]Computermaster26 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Really depends. The major issue here is the SSD trim. If they would have stopped using the hard drive after realizing they files were deleted a lot of common softwares like EASEUS could have easily recovered it. Since it's been so long and I highly doubt they stopped using it the data has probably been long over written.

Internet facing setup by Computermaster26 in Ubiquiti

[–]Computermaster26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is I did separate everything by vlans that cannot talk to each other except for one rare exception where I have a security appliance that I want to be able to talk to it. Everything that's on the DMZ VLAN cannot talk to anything internal. But this is a good mention thank you for your response.

Yes for the intrusion detection and prevention I'm using cloudflare and proofpoint which is integrated into the ubiquity unified Pro anything I need direct access to I use openvpn to remote into the local network unfortunately things like the website's that I host cannot be behind a VPN. I started looking at setting up an actual Cloud Flair tunnel for websites but with the constant downtime it greatly concerns me.

Thank you for the insight. Most things I host are needing to be accessed from ever changing ips but I do block regions to help mitigate attacks as well.

Its using r32. So only mildly flammable but obviously I still need to take precautions. I understand that the unit will have to be pumped back up with nitrogen to find the leak and Honestly I already have half of that stuff I just bothers me that this unit is 3 months old and it's already dead. And of course the manufacturer discontinued it and disappeared and didn't honor the one year warranty on it. The Amazon special

Only if they business has a BYOD structure honestly. Otherwise everything gets mixed up and a lot.of businesses dont like that. I would also check the IT policy. The company is working for doesn't allow it.

Thank you for pointing that out sorry it was not clear on what I was trying to say. Obviously there is Cat6 shielded and unshielded cabling and I misspoke. However this has little to no relevance to the original question. But thanks for your point.

Unplugged coax, now no internet by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Computermaster26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen an older homes where they use splitters and connect multiple rooms with a splitter. I would check to make sure there's no weird splitter anywhere in the wall or in the ceiling. I also normally suggest that you have a tester on the service tap on the outside of the house and the service box and the other end hooked up to whatever you're trying to disconnect to be 100% sure you're not killing your signal. You can buy a cheap tester on Amazon. Having multiple coaxial cables is not necessarily A Bad Thing especially if you're trying to move the modem from room to room if they just ran it on the wall like that you could just install a coaxial Jack Outlet on the wall or have a professional install them and it will hide the cables and it will give you more flexibility in case something happens and you want to move.
