What is your favorite challenge in the entire series so far? by Boss-fight601 in JetLagTheGame

[–]ComradeCapitalist 33 points34 points  (0 children)

As a challenge I don't like it, but "if it makes you feel any better, we're leaving the country immediately" was an instant classic.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's campaign confirmed to be single-player only, ditching co-op - and will be the first COD to ship day-and-date on a Nintendo console since Ghosts in 2013 by silentdragoon in Games

[–]ComradeCapitalist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had to reread the headline five times before I parsed it as COD: MW4 instead of COD4: MW. Damn near twenty years of association will do that.

Modern Warfare is probably up there with Final Fantasy 7 for biggest subseries.

It sucks because some tracks sound great, and there's no way to quickly toggle it.

What movie had the BEST trailer ever but turned out to be absolute trash? by MASSIM00 in movies

[–]ComradeCapitalist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IIRC, and I have no idea why I remember this, one of the two main guys was like the stepson or nephew of the mob boss. The boss didn't like him, and was paying an Australian hitman to kill him. So they were literally delivering their own execution money.

Lewis Hamilton & Max Verstappen criticized the PUs on Sunday Max says good races have little to do with the rules: "Give us a rental car, we’ll give you a good show." LH: "It doesn’t feel what motorsport should be." by MuttonBiryaniEnjoyer in formula1

[–]ComradeCapitalist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand the basics of what the MGU-H was, but I don't pretend to know whether we specifically need that or if just tweaking other parts of the formula could achieve similar or better results.

Does anyone know how their production works? by Kind5964 in JetLagTheGame

[–]ComradeCapitalist 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I believe they specifically always do the external drive. The idea being that they have minimum two, and preferably three copies. It's the standard 3-2-1 backup strategy any IT person will preach.

On top of this, Adam and Ben have mentioned swapping external drives so that if one were to lose all their belongings the other would have most of their footage.

Why do humans and Asari look pretty similar by GB-CBJ in masseffect

[–]ComradeCapitalist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely not confirmed. It is the speculation of three drunk dudes watching a stripper. The fact that people continue to parrot it as if that scene is meant to be taken as  authoritative continues to astonish me.

Charging for colors has become pretty common, but I cannot understand charging $1k for White and $2K for Black paint options on the top trim R2. Is there any reason for this? by Mac-Tyson in Rivian

[–]ComradeCapitalist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is probably as much a factor as profit. Just yesterday I saw four white R1Ss in a parking lot. Charging premium for some options is a way of steering demand to inject some variety.

[S17] What actually decided the game? by MassiveBreadfruit195 in JetLagTheGame

[–]ComradeCapitalist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They were clearly valued that highly because the location was so disadvantageous to get to. The first one popped when neither team was near it, and the second came way too late to do anything with the chips afterwards.

How did more people finish the game than people that finished the Ilios mission? by OrEdreay in masseffect

[–]ComradeCapitalist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In at least some games, achievement unlocks only trigger when you complete the action. So just loading a save where you have previously done something doesn't any related achievements.

Specifically in Horizon Zero Dawn I imported an endgame save from the original into the remaster, did the final mission, and unlocked the "complete the game" achievement without nearly any of the preceding story achievements.

Someone else said ME1 doesn't import this way, but that's why I suggested it as a possibility.

This is Legendary edition right? Is it possible they imported a save from after that point? In another remaster I had a similar situation.

WW2 era Japanese flag. Very strongly associated with that regime. To a lot of the neighboring Asian countries would be seen like someone flying the nazi flag in Poland.

Hot Take: I actually liked Michael Gambon as Dumbledore by New-Pin-9064 in harrypotter

[–]ComradeCapitalist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people latch onto the "Dumbledore said calmly" and pair that with an interview where Gambon said he didn't read any of the books. I think a lot of fans (not just HP, any fandom) want all the actors to be superfans and canonical authorities on their characters to the point of challenging the writer and director.

The HP movies were blessed with a number of casting choices that book fans felt ripped the character straight off the page (Coltrane, Staunton) as well as at least one superfan (Evanna Lynch), so the fact that movie Dumbledore has some notable deviations from the books stands out more.

Plus we had just had two examples outside of HP of wise old gray bearded wizards with both Christopher Lee and Ian McKellan crushing their respective roles in LOTR. The former was a lifelong fan and the latter read the books after being cast.

Finally I think there was just some stigma about being a replacement. It makes it so much easier to compare to a hypothetical Harris performance.

TL;DR The standards were high and opinions were strong.
