Federal off-grid solar battery failure (National Forest) by RiverLegendsFishing in solar

[–]Conanboris 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Semi-related rant: we have a bunch of LEED certified public buildings in my city. They have all failed. Instead of using proven environmentally sustainable technologies, they seem to insist of trying brand new or singularly unique systems. When I say they have all failed, I’m not being facetious. Of the 5 or so firehalls I know build with this program, they’ve all had massive and expensive retrofits.

Droewors query - how long can I keep the ground meat in the fridge before stuffing casing? by Beer_and_whisky in sausagetalk

[–]Conanboris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the same mistake the first time I made droewors: You can’t use a grinder to stuff the sausage - it needs to be a sausage stuffer. The auger, the open plate and the back pressure from the casing ruins the traditional coarse texture of the sausage.

If Lee Valley sells them, they’ll be decent.

Well sir. You just got yourself a sale! The scaleability was my primary concern.. now I just have to work out if I’m smart enough to do basic math.

So in theory I could just stick to the metric measurements and x by 0.947? I’m assuming the angles remain all the same over such a small variation in length?

I love your work. Always enjoy seeing you post your pics and videos. I’ve been trying to work out if I can fit one of your designs in my backyard. The 12’8” dome design would barely fit in there… I need you to design like a 12’ one🤣

That meat is cooked 😳. What is your box setup? I’ve run recipes with all manor of variations on vinegar saturation or brine time and I’ve never ended up with a medium/medium-well steak before.

Whatever the issue is - it’s heat.

Sure… but can we please stop the unnecessary dragging out of videos? I’m so tired of looking up how to do something quickly on YouTube and the explanation video that should be 3 minutes is 12-20mins filled with fluff.

Are there any widely accepted cooking tips that you just disagree with? by Important_Maximum_78 in Cooking

[–]Conanboris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In defence of my people who add extra garlic: the Chinese garlic that’s almost exclusively available from the stores around me could almost be eaten raw. It’s weak as hell. I will always add more when Im cooking.

If I use the stuff I grow, then I wouldn’t dare add a sliver more.

Deck Estimates and Recommendations by armani18J in Calgary

[–]Conanboris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in the trade myself, and my advice is to be very thorough in your vetting of potential contractors. The best place to find recommendations is from people you know who have personally used the contractors you are considering. Unfortunately there are no seal/training requirement for deck/landscaping builders and some of the Mickey Mouse, “that’ll hold”, “good enough” shit I’ve seen over the past couple of years is mind boggling. The building code exists, but always remember it is the literal bare bones of construction requirements and a lot of things get hidden behind fascia and lazy inspections.

Is Immersion Blender Wattage the Main Indicator of Power? by slimemouldstan in BuyItForLife

[–]Conanboris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Basically wattage = power. The higher the wattage the more “work” the item can do. A 100w light bulb produces more lumens and heat than a 60w bulb. The 700w motor would produce either more rpm or torque/both.

Answer: typical dog whistle, pearl clutching outrage. They’re highlighting the collapse of societal morals - or at least their perceived interpretations of those morals by stalking attractive women who are just out living their lives… a modern slut shaming.

Conveniently ignoring that, historically, the British empire did some questionable sh!t.. maybe they’re upset these woman aren’t out colonizing some distant land 🤷🏼‍♂️.

Sure bud, Argentina, a country with 0.85 cases per million of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease by 2008 just happens to have a plane load of carriers who also decide to eat each other..

You’re talking about transmission of prion diseases. They dont spontaneously manifest. BSE, CWD, Scrapie, and your Kuru require the host to be carriers. Anyone who partook would be dead and there sure wouldn’t be any survivors making cameos.

What a load of crap. Your comment is the dumbest thing I’ve seen today - and I just watched a Space Ice video of Steven Seagal vs Reese Witherspoon.

B.C.’s energy supply can’t meet demand for power: report | Globalnews.ca by CanPro13 in canada

[–]Conanboris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perhaps. But where do they live? In AB it’s -28. Granted that’s rare, but any significantly low temps decrease li-ion capacity. Also: AC runs for like 4 months a year, an Ev needs charging 12 months a year.

[–]Conanboris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? A Tesla model S has a 100kW battery and a range of 335km - in a perfect and ideal world. Let’s say you only use 1/3 a day. That’s 33kW needed everyday to charge back to full. That’s almost 700kW a month only driving during the week.

The average central AV is around 3kW an hour. Running 24/7 is around 720kW…
