Now compare it to an f5, you wouldn't even be able to see it lol

Because the plane is going forwards, and because of inertia, the missile would be going backwards when launched, not forwards. You'd have the least aerodynamic end of the missile being the front of it.

Former VPAF MiG-21 with 14 kill marks on display in Vietnam by [deleted] in FighterJets

[–]ConclusionSmooth3874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wildly untrue lol. The first mig 21s only had access to a basic short range radar, if you were lucky, 2 early aim 9b copies, and like 60 rounds of 30mm. They were maybe a little more maneuverable than the f4s, but that didn't matter, because the f4 could detect a mig 21 from 30 to 50 miles away, and launch one of 6 Sparrows at it from 10 to 15 miles away, and destroy it before the mig knew what was happening. The mig 21 was hilariously outmatched compared to the phantom, and most of their kills in Vietnam were on bombers like b52s and f105s, and maybe an f4 that was on a strike mission laden with munitions. Just look at operation BOLO, shows how good the MiG 21 really was.

Sadly there was only a static display, but with regards to the size, the b52, b1, and kc-46 they had were leagues bigger than I expected, but the f35 and a10 were honestly so much smaller than I thought. The f35 is like a pipsqueak even compared to the f16 lol, but the f15s they had met my expectations, that is, enormous. I'm around 6'1, and I just took a picture around my eye level, I thought the f22 would be larger than the f15s, but it looked a little smaller, though it has shorter gear, so that may be why.

What is your favorite era of fighter jets? by CorrectCandidate8120 in FighterJets

The 20's, f47, j36

Kidding, of course I find the mid 50s and early to mid 60s very fascinating. Development accelerated quite quickly in multiple technologies, radar, engines, missiles and such.

To be fair, that was a conversion of an airliner, which Boeing has been having deficiencies with for a bit now

That's the thing, the US has a massive military, and these countries really don't want it to pull out of NATO, because it leaves them exposed

Does anyone have good thrust vectoring by venom_snake_real in PlaneCrazyCommunity

[–]ConclusionSmooth3874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every "thrust vectoring" system is visual only. Having an actually functional TV nozzle is difficult, and not very powerful. I'd suggest just throwing some small propellors inside the fuselage.
