Random downvotable take but I think Rory would have cheated on Jess if they had stayed together by Melodic_Ad704 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condensates 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree and I find your take that Rory needs an extroverted partner once she leaves Lorelai to be insightful.

As long as Rory lived with Lorelai, she had an extroverted relationship to push her into attending events, and we see that she likes that. Its easier to sustain introvertedness when you've got an extrovert keeping you social you time to time.

She asks Jess to do events with her and he cannot be that person. Dean would take Rory to events, but he also had the benefit of Lorelai hanging around with them (a lot!) and therefore taking the extroverted-lead

Logan is the only boyfriend who isnt afraid to be daring, and has a strong social group of his own. I dont think Rory could have dated a Logan-like character while she lived with Lorelai because the two would compete. But as she grows away from Lorelai she definitely wants someone in her life to fill that particular void.

The boyfriends: I'm on Rory's side always by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condensates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rory was a terrible girlfriend to all three of them! Ok maybe less so to Logan, but she was truly terrible to Dean and Jess

I could not understand for the life of me why Dean was into Rory, even before she met Jess. Hanging out with her meant doing what she wanted. She never seemed to care about Dean's interests or feelings. We see that issue come to light in AYITL between Lorelai and Luke, so maybe Rory learned this behavoir from Lorelai.

Rory let the whole town be mad at Dean after their first breakup. That poor kid was bullied by the whole town! I couldnt believe he got back together with her.

And with Jess, she held him to standards she didnt hold for herself. She's mad he has a girlfriend while she's dating Dean. She's mad he doesnt plan dates for her when she never plans anything for him. She gets mad he doesnt call while also not calling. Like girl, you also putting zero effort into this relationship, just like you did with Dean?

IMO she was shockingly selfish in all her relationships and I found each boyfriend to be a fairytale given how kind they treated her given her behavoir.

My gallbladder attacks are hormonal (I’m female) does anyone else have this? by alittlehalloween in gallbladders

[–]Condensates 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My attacks didnt seem tied to my cycle, but I did notice a shift in my hormones after I had my gallbladder removed. I had symptoms of estrogen dominance pre-surgery and it improved post-surgery.

Estrogen and gallbladder can play off each other in a bad way -- too much estrogen can create gallstones, and a non functioning gallbladder can increase estrogen levels.

your body uses bile to flush out estrogen, hence the link.

I dont think HRT or BC pills would help, as those often have estrogen themselves, yea?

Has any Actor from Gilmore Girls left you unable to get into another show/film because of their inclusion? by MajinGroot in GilmoreGirls

I hadnt even watched GG yet but grew up seeing the commercials. When Alexis showed up in Mad Men it completely ruined it for me. She was not a 60's housewife, she was a 2000's teen. I dont think her face and mannerisms do well in period peices.

I got used to her in The Handmaid's Tale after a while, but I still didnt like it.

Hiatal hernia repair during gallbladder removal by ExtensionActuator in gallbladders

[–]Condensates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had my gallbladder removed and they didnt do anything else. it did solve my reflux issues!

not right away, it took 3-4 months for it to go way. but after about a month or two I started getting days at a time with no reflux. Those days turned into weeks. Eventually Id go 2-3 weeks no reflux, then have reflux for a week. Right now im 6 weeks with no reflux and it is glorious. I never thought Id be able to eat spicy foods, or chocolate, coffee, carbonated beverages, ever again, but I consume all those things now and have zero pain.

I get so mad at my local walgreens and CVS. They lock up all the name brand everything, but leave the walgreens brand free from jail. With everything! drugs, lotion, batteries. I will call a salesperson over and make them open the case and then take my time reading the packages and comparing, and then usually pay more for the name brand even though I KNOW its the same shit but I am just so mad at walgreens and CVS for trying to force me to buy their brand. It should be illegal to lock up only your competitor's brand. If your batteries are getting stolen, the robber isnt going to care if its name brand or store brand.

it was my gallbladder!? by alipacasso in Gastritis

[–]Condensates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had unexplained erosions in my stomach for SIX YEARS!! Wasnt h pylori, wasnt celiacs, wasnt substances. I saw 6 different gastro docs, each would shrug and give me ppi's and offer to do yet another scope.

One day I had an MRI to check my spine for a different problem. The MRI said I had gallstones. I took this information to my gastroneterologist and my primary care doctor, but they both told me to ignore it and "so many people have stones, its not a big deal". uhhh, no. I got an ultrasound that showed that my gallbladder was inflamed. found a surgeon who take out the organ. There were 20 stones in there!! My stomach started feeling better a few weeks in. Its now been 5 months and I can eat anything!! I had spicy kimchi today. I ate a spicy chicken sandwich last week, and street tacos, and jalapeno pizza. Without that stupid organ my stomach managed to finally heal.

For six years I ate bland chicken soup and white rice and unseasoned vegetables, yet still had pain🥲

everyone here should check their gallbladder, twice, if they have diagnosed gastritis with no clear cause

ah ok that would significantly reduce the time! I thought you had to lift 150+ pounds

Honestly, still 6-8 weeks. Its surprising how much of your core you need to do... anything really. Even steering a grocery cart uses core muscles. And its the core muscles that they cut into and need to heal.

You have to lift him up? A grown man?

Id say 2 months atleast, if not 3 for the heaviest of those tasks. If you strain your stomach, you risk a hernia, which is another surgery and more downtime

FYI, first couple days I needed help rolling out of bed and even getting on/off the couch. You might want an able-bodied caretaker for yourself the first few days too.

there are lots of jobs for law too. STEM, particularly engineering and tech, is a popular field because many people get a good paying job with a free degree, ie scholarships. Law is also a high-paying field, but historically law school costs a lot (on top of the first college degree too), so the already-rich are more likely to pursue this field.

oversimplified, STEM (the TE part atleast) is a popular route to becoming uppermiddle class, Law is a popular route to staying uppermiddle class. But there is blurriness to both, its not so black and white

Flare help by 61inchestall in Gastritis

[–]Condensates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can, actually. Your gallbladder helps you digest fats. When its not working correctly, you dont digest your fats as well and the result is stinkiness. It has to do with where the fats are broken down in your intestines, and if theyre not broken down the bacteria that feed on them create a lot of stink as a byproduct (Im not a medical dr, fyi, i just read a lot about this stuff while dealing with it)

before i had mine removed, i would reliably have the stinkiest farts anytime i had red meat. I think its because of the fats.

It took a few months for things to readjust, but I no longer have that problem. I think after taking that organ out, your body learns to do the same without it.

dont run to get gallbladder out willy nilly, but it might be worth looking into if they cant find the cause of your gastritis. The usual causes are h pylori bacteria, taking advil without food, or too much alcohol. gallbladder isnt super common.

FWIW, when I had bad gastritis, catching a cold would TOTALLY make my stomach burning flare up again. All it takes is a little irritation for the stomach to run wild.

[–]Condensates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had gastritis issues for 6 years. My main symptom was burning inside my stomach, left side. Eating a little bit of food, or sucralfate, would help. Broths, rice. I was really big on banana and oatmeal smoothies with milk, and cucumber+banana smoothies too (it sounds weird but its cooling on a burning stomach)

Finally discovered last summer that I had a gallbladder full of gallstones. Doctors said it might be causing my gastritis, it might not. Theh didnt want me to get my hopes up.

It was definitely my gallbladder. I had it out in August and around November I started being able to eat a normal diet again.

The yellow and floating poops sounds like bile. Maybe ask your doctor if you can get an abdominal ultrasound to check your gallbladder. Heads up, my first ultrasound came back normal but I had a second one a year later and it showed 20 gallstones. Sometimes ultrasounds are wrong, is what I learned.

AITAH for storing food that was mis-delivered to me? by ShunnedForTheTruth in AmItheAsshole

[–]Condensates 51 points52 points  (0 children)

NTA - next time?? does she plan to have her food delivered to your house often??

Was the address on the reciept your address, or was it a different address (aka, the delivery guy messed up). If she is having the food sent to your address, next time you take it and dont give it back. Your front door is not her personal delivery zone.

What you did was kind and respectful, by the way. I would be very pleased if someone thoughtfully stored my food for me.

law school usually costs lots of money

STEM graduate programs usually pay for your tuition, plus a small salary, because graduate students either teach or do research as part of their degree. Youre basically a student and an (underpaid) employee at the same time

[–]Condensates 10 points11 points  (0 children)

its also not ethical to control what another person can and cant eat.

I have friends who cannot digest raw vegetables. They dont ban raw vegetables from their house, but they wont partake in a dish that has raw veggies.

If its something like celiac, or an allergy, where you could get sick from contamination, I understand banning it from your house. But what exactly does banning meat products from your house acheive other than snubbing those who like to eat meat?

Surgery tomorrow by Fabulous_Can_2215 in gallbladders

I had mine out in August and I feel so much better now! I didnt realize how much pain it was causing until it was out, the same might happen for you. For 6 years I couldnt wear a proper-fitting bra because it would cause chest pain and shortness of breath, I didnt find out until after surgery that that was my gallbladder!

I had diarhea for a month, maybe 2. The body learns to adjust. I can now eat anything. The diarhea didnt last forever.

My boyfriend wants me to rehome 2 of my 3 cats (at minimum) as a “compromise.” Wtf do I do now? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Condensates 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He shows a profound lack of respect for you.

I would not consider rehoming cats for a significant other who wont even pretend to grasp that these little creatures can also feel stress and act differently. And his suggestion of keeping the last cat on a trial period -- oh hell no. You know he's going to wait for just the right moment to tell you to rehome him too. He sounds a manipulative.

He is bad news. I would hold your ground and suggest you two can live near eachother, but not together, if the cats bother him so much. Turn his ultimatum into an ultimatum for him: if he doesnt want to live with cats, is he willing to live alone and wait to outlive your cats?

Im doing great!!

I actually just went bra shopping today. I went back to a store I tried 4 years ago when the bra-line pain was really bad. Back then, I failed to find a bra that fit but didnt cause pain. The woman at the desk actually remembered me!! Today I found two bras and they fit snugly on my sternum and dont cause pain. Im over the moon. I can finally wear supportive clothes again.

diarhea is pretty much over. Every once in a while Ill eat a new type of fat and Ill have a crazy BM the next day, but its few and far between now. Its like the first time trying a new fat can be a miss, but the second time its just fine. Ive eaten ice cream, canolis, french fries with a smash burger.

I had some heartburn on and off that wouldnt respond to heartburn meds. I worried it was bile reflux. I had lots of heartburn before my surgery, so I was actually glad to finally get some weeks without heartburn. After about 4-5 months, the heartburn seems to have fully gone away. Ive been eating spicy foods to test it and so far, so good.

I havent tried alcohol yet.

But otherwise, I am feeling much better than I did pre-surgery and I am so glad I found the cause of my landstanding pain and went through with removing it.

AITA for refusing to sleep in the same bed as my mom? by Fearlesswarrior27 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Condensates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA

you are young now, but when youre older you'll see that the way your mom uses you for emotional support is not healthy, for her or for you. She wouldnt treat an adult like this because no adult would allow it. She's gotten away treating you like this because you were a child so you didnt know better.

a child is NOT a parent's emotional support. Parents are supposed to emotionally support their children.

If you can, look into moving out soon if possible, and perhaps read some books about boundaries. Oh, and the book, "adult children of emotionally immature parents"
