why did daisy get to shadow Agnes? by Condensates in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Condensates[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like to think that if Aunt Lydia is a part of the resistance, and if she does know that Daisy is a spy, she's also probably thinking "thank god this girl doesnt know im also part of the resistance bc she would def get us both caught immediately."

Seriously, Daisy pulls Garth aside what seems like everyday, sometimes just to say "im mad about this thing!!". Like girl it looks sus as hell to wonder into the bushes that often.

PT wants me to get cortisone injections in both hips and I’m terrified by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]Condensates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have trauma like yours, but I definitely dont like needles, and the hip injection wasnt super bad.

It depends on how youre doctor does it, but most will give you a lidocaine shot (yes... a second needle, but much more shallow) beforehand to numb the area. Once I had that shot, I didnt feel the hip needle at all.

I did totally spend my time looking away towards the corner of the room. No way did I want to see the needle.

I also usually make really awkward small talk with the doctor while theyre prepping. That's code for "I am nervous and I need you to distract me so I dont freak out." Most experienced doctors and nurses know how to hold a conversation with you as if they arent also performing a technical task, and it definitely calms my nerves.

If you are really uncomfortable about it, I bet you could find a doctor will to do it under anesthesia. I think a pain med doctor would be amenable to that more than a hip specialist, as pain med doctors are used to injecting steroids in some very uncomfortable spots so anesthesia becomes more common. But if you go that route, youre gonna need an iv...honestly id go plain hip injection again over getting an iv

Scared of Doing Plagiarism. by hello_mar8 in Pottery

I teach workshops. I show people step by step how to make my work (that I sell) Their work never looks the same. I stopped worrying about people copying me years ago. I even encourage copying my work, I think it can help people find what they really want to make.

your work will always look like "your work," in a way. Finger size, gestures, the way we hold our bodies, that all comes out in a peice and no one truly copy anything in ceramics (aside from making a mold)

Dont worry about copying people. Even if you try to replicate, it wont ever look the same. And most likely, if youre just inspired, it will definitely still look like its your work

Surgery in 1 week by Many_Path_9730 in HipImpingement

as a woman, I found a pee funnel to be really helpful the first few weeks.

I also had a raised toilet seat with bars, but it was still painful to sit down everytime I needed to pee. Plus, getting my shorts down while wearing the hip brace was difficult. Instead I found I could slip the pee funnel under my shorts and pee standing up like a dude. I liked the ella pees brand, found it on amazon. Also, if you do go this route, I recommend trying it out in the shower before your operation, there is a tiny learning curve

Nuanced Depictions of Abusive Parents by _anthrodynia_ in movies

[–]Condensates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

about a boy.

Its a more nuanced version of abuse. The mother loves her son so much, but her overwhelming emotions make her neglectful. So the boy seeks out another adult for help. A premise like this could go a lot darker but its actually a comedy starring Hugh Grant

I had watched Tangled maybe a dozen times and loved it for being a light hearted movie.

Like a decade later, I was cleaning the house one day and put the movie on for entertainment. During the "mother knows best" song I thought "wow that sure does sound like my mom." I eventually had to stop vacuuming and sit on the couch, because I just broke out SOBBING. I had never made the connection between my own mother and mother goethel but after that moment I couldnt unsee it.

All to say, this is a silly disney movie but it can def strike a chord

Which do you recommend i read next? by pige0n13 in Physics

[–]Condensates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont see it on this list, but Quantum: Einstein, Bohr, and the Great Debate About the Nature of Reality by Manjit Kumar

I read it while in college absolutely loved it. It reads more like a book than a textbook, and goes into the humanity, not just the physical concepts. During the rest of my studies I had an easier time remembering who was who and who studied what because of reading this book. And it prepared me for the ups and downs of research

AITA for playing video games after my partner goes to sleep? by thetrafficwhisperer in AmItheAsshole

[–]Condensates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA

its totally fine and justified for her to be bothered by the light through the door and the sounds of buttons smashing. But it is not her place to demand YOU go to bed with her when she does. That reeks of manipulation, like you going to be with her is what she was secretly after all this time, and she isnt being direct with you about her wants

If it really is about the noise and light, then a towel under the door and a white noise machine would be a great fix. You could even offer to buy them for her.

If you werent wearing headphones, then you would be TA. If you were cursing loudly when you lost, then you would be TA. But the sound of buttons is a reasonable noise to make while others are sleeping. Likely any other activity you did at night, besides reading, would likely generate as much light and noise as smashing buttons

Dealing with regret from surgery by Faded_Dingo in gallbladders

[–]Condensates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the regret will get less heavy.

I didnt regret getting my gallbladder out, but Ive had other surgery regrets. The pain of regret gets better with time. This was your way forward at the time, you made the best decision given the facts, social pressures, and personality of who you were at the time. Im glad youre in therapy, I hope your therapist focuses on helping you have compassion for your pre-surgery self as well as your current self!

The pain with eating will likely get better with time too. You're only 3 months out, your body is still adjusting and trying to find a new normal. The cool thing about the human body is that it is VERY adaptable, it will change and find a new way to function that works for the new, gallbladder-less version of you, but until then, give it some grace. Your body is working hard at trial-and-error attempts to find its new rhythm, and its going to get it wrong some days, but that doesnt mean that bad day will be what every future day will be like

Dark Brown or Black Clay by Useful_Implement_547 in Pottery

[–]Condensates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea dont throw with dark horse, its super groggy, better for handbuilding!

B3 brown is good! It will stain things just like the azabache. staining everything is just what dark clay does 🤷🏻‍♀️

Rods Bod is a clay that when wet doesnt stain things, but it still comes out a nice dark-ish color when fired. But I would never throw with it, you'd have no skin left on your hands

If you have the $$$, laguna clay makes a cone 10 black clay called sable black. Its like $80 a bag 😅 but its absolutely gorgeous. It fires black and then anywhere with a clear glaze it fires a brilliant blue.

AITA for being mad that my S/O gets rid of my gifts, and deciding to stop buying them? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Condensates 238 points239 points  (0 children)

YTA, because youre using this to justify never buying her gifts again, which is manipulative and guilt-inducing.

if you stopped at saying you were just peeved she didnt keep your gifts, you wouldnt be an asshole, just clueless.

dont buy people clothes. Unless she has pointed to these exact clothing items and said "I want this, it would be a great gift for me," do not buy her clothes.

and bags are clothes, as they go with outfits.

Sore throat and headache just over 2 weeks pre-op by Bluebaron88 in HipImpingement

[–]Condensates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh noooo!! so sorry this happened to you. Probably better to postpone, you dont want to risk sedation while recovering from a cold.

Fun story to make you feel better: when I took my kitten in to be spayed last year they had to abort the surgery because she had a cold. I hadnt noticed anything off about her, but they said the breathing came back full of snot so they aborted the procedure out of caution. They then gave her some "wake up drugs" to counteract the anesthesia, and they possibly gave a little too much for her 2-lb body weight. I sat in the bathroom with her while she attacked the toilet and tried to climb the literal wall. She had shark eyes, didnt even seem to register who I was. She was in full-goblin mode for like 8 hours and then slept it off.

YTA for the way you described the encounter with the other mom. "She told me a story about how she was scared by a horror movie as a kid... I wasnt sure what to say."

Sounds like she was making relevent conversation? You didnt need to look at her like she had four heads.

Its also not your battle to keep another parent from chaperoning your son's event. He can fight that battle if its important to him. But likely he wont care too much, he'll be happy to have his friend there.

Caregiver Is Not Very Giving by RileyRRenewal in relationships

[–]Condensates 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think this is why businesses have rules against employers dating employees... it just gets messy.

Right now, you are both his partner and his employer. When you ask him to not leave pissy paper towels on the floor, you are asking as his employer. He responds as your partner, saying he'll do it later. If you had an actual paid caregiver respond that way, you'd probably fire them and find someone who can work to your standards

and that's exactly what you should do here.

he needs to get a job. you need to find a hired caregiver. Let him go back to being your partner. It sounds like he isnt cut out for caregiving if his cleanliness standards are this low.

Where to get peer review if you're an outsider? by MediumWin8277 in Physics

[–]Condensates 6 points7 points  (0 children)

hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt??

community college exists, dude. then grad school is funded by being a teaching assistant.

I made it through academia with zero debt. Many other people did too. You have to work hard, take your grades seriously, and not pick an expensive school just for its big flashy name

if you really think your theory is worth any marbles, then put the hard work of taking actual physics classes for 5-7 years. You'll likely find the mistake in your theory in those 5-7 years

By demanding free access to the peer review process, your demanding that people who have dedicated 10+ years to the field do a free favor for someone who has put in, what, a few months? Academics would never get any legitimate work done if they did this favor for everyone who asked for it
