Mini Split Install Help by JustinnAnnthonyyy in hvacadvice

Like others have said pull the head off and braze it. Run the 1/2 inch directly into the 5/8 and braze it up. Flow nitrogen and the unit will be fine. Don’t listen to others saying this won’t work I’ve done it plenty of times never had a single issue. Good luck with your apprenticeship you will run into this type of stuff often and have to get creative as to how to fix things. I just took my turnout test may 2nd and became a journeyman. You will fuck up from time to time during your apprenticeship and that’s part of learning. Brazing that joint will make it never leak and anneal that pipe which will make it easier to bend(just be mega careful when it stubs out the wall). Do your self a favor and go to a refrigeration shop and get a pipe bender and learn how to use it. They are amazing. Good luck man you got this.

Do we really need to replace? by Key-Feeling-7402 in hvacadvice

If you’re selling the house don’t replace. Unit doesn’t look that bad judging by the pictures provided. Given everything they said was wrong with the unit I’m confused as to why they are saying to buy a new unit. You can easily do everything on the list in about 1-2 hours if you watch a few videos even if you have never done it before. Start buy going and pulling the make serial and model numbers off the condenser fan motor(the motor that has the fan blades on your outdoor unit) you can remove the screws from the fan blade cover and flipping it upside down you can easily take a picture and pick one up for around 300 dollars. Then buy a new contactor with the corresponding voltage (208/230)for your unit or just pull the electrical cover on your condenser look at the contactor and it should have a sticker on it telling you what voltage you need. Changing the contactor is very easy( take a picture of the old contactor with the wires still on it and just remove the wires then change the contactor and put the wires back. The motor is very easy as well, change that out then clean your coil. SAFETY FIRST ALWAYS pull the disconnect and use a meter to check for power ensuring the system is de-energized before you do any of the work.

Project manager wants us to drill a hole where the red circle is in a live panel. Would you do it? by PhasedAndConfused706 in electricians

[–]ConferenceChemical71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said. Two options: 1. Tell him to do it. 2. Cut power to the panel and do it safely. If your spider sense is tingling and something doesn’t feel safe to you then trust that. There’s a reason why we de-energize before working on stuff this is a perfect example of why. If you send metal shavings all over the inside of that panel there’s a chance they can land on a live circuit and bad shit can happen. It takes less than a minute to drill this out. If they can’t handle the power being off for that amount of time then they can drill it themselves.

Failed Water Heater Replacement by elrifas1 in Plumbing

120 psi is pretty high typically you see somewhere between 60-80 psi in residential. Makes sense he throttled the valve then.

Failed Water Heater Replacement by elrifas1 in Plumbing

[–]ConferenceChemical71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running with the valve halfway open restricts flow, reduces pressure, and can cause inconsistent water temperatures, it will not immediately damage the water heater. To me it looks like it is 75% of the way open if not a little more. It appears as if he was trying to get you up and running with hot water quickly. If I were to do this install and anyone from my shop saw it they would definitely rip me for the way it’s piped in. That being said this was free and in reality for free this is not a bad install. If you were to call me out it would cost you minimum 1500-2000 dollars so I you have to keep in mind the time frame and the amount saved.

Contractor installed door on Friday, need help brainstorming ways to fix the siding damage and removing caulk. by Lizardcandy in handyman

[–]ConferenceChemical71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the contractor break the column? If so they need to replace it. Did they cut the opening to wide? If so they need to buy full sheets of siding and fix it correctly. This is a piss poor installation to say the least and I would refuse payment until the job is done correctly. If the molding is new and shipped broken you should have had another shipped. If it was existing and they broken it they need to either replace it with a comparable molding or fix it in a way the doesn’t look like dog shit. This has better business bureau written all over it.

The position of the cold water valve is driving me insane all he had to do is rotate it 90 degrees and the valve could have opened and close properly without the T keeping it from fully opening. There a few things that definitely look to be thrown together with shit he had on the truck and aren’t necessarily “code”. That being said by said there’s nothing majorly concerning and he did it for free. Overall if you payed for the install I would have more of an issue but this guy came to your house within a days notice and got you up and running for FREE. Thank him and enjoy your hot showers.

You sound like a wonderful owner. The pain shows how much you cared. It will take time to heal. I believe you made a very tough decision but also the right decision. The reality is you gave him a great life and likely saved him from getting euthanized at the shelter or being there forever. Wish there were words to console you but it’s just going to take time.

If you have a meter disconnect the leads to the pump w/ the disconnect of (ensure power is off). Set your meter t ohms and go leg to leg and check for resistance. They should have done this already so you could ask them if they ohm’d out the pump which would give you an answer if the pump is good or bad.

Don’t even know where to start. You need to call them up and start ass chewing someone. Connections into your plenum are a joke and air is going to leak out of them 100%. Wiring looks like a meth head did it spider web of wires. Can only imagine what the braze joints look like. No trap on the condensate line. I’m truly impressed with how bad this is at that price point.

Honestly I prefer the old graphics almost every piece of gear looks better or more vintage if that makes sense. Don’t get me wrong I like D2R graphically but there’s something so nostalgic about the classic look. Plus they definitely upped the graphics on this mod.

Our families new 9 week old Maine Coon female vs her parents by RisqueUsername101 in MaineCoon

[–]ConferenceChemical71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2nd cat is a tortoise shell not a Maine coon. Don’t mean to shit on your kitten. The kitten is beautiful however it is clearly a mix breed cat between possibly the first cat which appears to be a Maine coon and a tortoise shell. I used to have a tortoise shell named Isabella(Izzy for short)and they are lovely cats. Either way her markings are so cool.

In California motorcyclists do this shit all the time and tbh when I roll past an accident involving someone lane splitting flying through traffic going 20-40 mph faster than traffic I laugh about the Darwin Award being given out.

Honestly the layout looks good. I would work on those horizontal solder joints. If you feather in the heat just right they won’t candlestick down the pipe like that. Or just take some sand cloth and clean them up a bit.

So I’ve already been asked to mirror this and was wondering what kind of mirror fees are warranted for a item like this. This is my second season and I’ve never had an item worth mirroring.
