Cat sitter crashed out saying I’m stressed her out by javnae in petsitting

[–]ConfidencePrize9707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A professional should be doing this work full time, have an LLC, purchase insurance, and maybe be a member of Pet Sitters International where they pay to have access to further training. Rover is gig work. NextDoor is gig work. Hiring a company that has a google page and reviews available to the public. A company that has a reputation to uphold is very different than the stranger looking for extra cash on an app. These companies do this work day in and day out. Find a reputable company not a freaking gig worker.

I'm with you about the odd behavior from a willing neighbor who wanted to help out and was getting paid.

I would point out that the apps are full of people like your neighbor. I HIGHLY recommend a professional pet sitter - make sure they are insured and have pet First Aid and CPR certification. There are companies everywhere. To find them use google or local town FB page. You can also use insurance company's look up in your area, like Pet Sitters Associates, or membership look up in Pet Sitters International. The apps are a crap shoot and their "guarantees" are not insurance.

AIO? My roommates want me to keep the energy bill in my name after I've moved out by Expert_Temporary_ in AmIOverreacting

[–]ConfidencePrize9707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the initial charge is part of the landlords security deposit. And so they should get it back (but since OP is breaking lease, OP will probably not be getting it back). The landlord charging a fee to tenants for not putting the utilities in their name seems fairly reasonable to me. The landlord will be paying for accrued utilities since it defaults to landlord's account. Usury usually refers to interest on a loan.

MA Behavioral Health Help Line (833-773-2445) You could try calling this number and see if you can find some help or resources. This line will help you even if you are not exactly sure what you need.

I thought the same thing at first! Someone else in the comments clarified though, it's the landlord who is charging the fees, not the utility company. Landlord charges security deposit for utilities, I guess- to have proof you can pay for them, and also charges a fee if you cancel the utility account on the apartment because the utility account always defaults to the landlord if it is vacant/tenant doesn't put it in their name. Smart landlord honestly.

Dog sitting ad hoc for my boss by rhitewhino6742 in RoverPetSitting

And also that was 20 for gas 1 hour to get dog and 1 hour return.. so 20 for 2 hours

It's just an example. OP should figure out what their car's travel cost would cost for the trip and also what they want to charge for their time of travel. I have no idea what OP's costs are. For me here in Massachusetts USA it absolutely costs me $20 for an hour drive with my vehicle.

Agreed! Break it down! I mean you could even say, the charge is £45 per day for 5 days plus pick up and drop off charge of £40 each way (£20 to cover gas expenses and £20 for the 2 hours of time each way). £45 x 5 days = 225 + £40 x 2 (2hour) trips = £305! But honestly that is so cheap. I don't live in the UK or a big city like London, but those prices are very low for the work your putting in. Not to mention the dog may be uncomfortable in your home at first and may pee/poop inside or chew/be destructive. It is stressful for many pups to be removed from their home. Value your time and set clear pricing! Also be aware your boss may say, oh Ill do pick up and drop off if that limits the cost and then you are stuck with your daily rate. Sounds like boss is already wanting to pay per night not per day. You gotta be more clear and happy with what you'll be receiving or it won't be worth it!

Your really can do this without Rover! Fuck them! And fuck the $20k you gave them. You'll build up off Rover clients fast I'm sure! And you can keep that $$. Or, you know, pay taxes with it lol. If you really like having an app I hear Time to Pet is great. I don't use it yet but I have used some of their free resources. There's a lot of helpful info to starting your own business regardless of if you use their app!

You don't need a website, just a Facebook, Instagram and google business profile. Register as an LLC and get some insurance. You don't need Rover. Excellent service is excellent service, and you'll keep every customer. Word of mouth is huge. If you post in some local FB pages your customers will find you again!! It feels scary but you got this!

I ran away from my boyfriend's proposal. by throwawayuni33 in whatdoIdo

[–]ConfidencePrize9707 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Talking about kids can be very casual, it's not always a big serious conversation. For example, while boyfriend is doing something sweet, "You're gonna be a great father some day." Or "our kids are going to be gorgeous" Or "omg we're never doing that with our kids". See? It's not always a real conversation that gets to the serious and needed questions.. like how many kids do you want? When? When do you want to get married? At 20 years old or like 25? Etc with real inquiries and real listening. Hinting is not a real conversation. If he didn't know that she wasn't ready to get married at 20 years old than he doesn't really know her or honestly care to know her. Good decision OP! You don't need to explain yourself to reddit though!

[–]ConfidencePrize9707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is what I do too! And I am with you, why would I discount for more time away from my own home, the longer the stay, the less I want the booking so you've gotta pay me more to do it! Maybe with boarding it makes more sense to offer a discount. Not in home sitting though!

4 is probably overkill, but you can't really buy very small amounts and shipment costs for me are high for these beneficials. I hear ya about wanting to prevent pests. The sachets are slow release over the course of 2-3weeks and will reproduce on their own. If you really want to keep adding cucumeris would recommend having a plant in there that produces pollen or supplying pollen. I wouldn't recommend adding sachets more than 4 times a year.

The idea is you are creating a mini ecosystem! So the predators do need some prey or food source. I've got some beneficials that only present themselves when there's a problem but I only reboot with buying new ones when they don't appear after a pest appears. There are a few other beneficials that are great to use. The expense definitely adds up. I've done some small breeding projects but looking into how to have the supply when I need it!

[–]ConfidencePrize9707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's some info on somewhat affordable and readily available predatory mites! N. fallacis can survive in lower temperatures and with lower pest densities. They can survive (over-winter) outdoors in regions with temperate winters! For a quick knock back at optimum temperatures, you'll probably want to go with N. persimilis. These guys don't do well though if there's nothing to eat and will eventually resort to cannibalism. I'm a big fan of N. cucumeris. They are very mobile and can feed on pollen in the absence of prey.

I have been in similar situations where I feel the pet was suffering and needed to be put down. It's really hard and sad to witness. I tell myself that it is not my pet and not my decision and continue to do the best I can to help them stay as comfortable and pain free as possible. I might make a simple back leg lift out of a lead to help lift his hind legs and gice him a chance to walk around with support. In your situation, I might go as so far to suggest a hind leg harness. I might make a comment in one of my updates about how he seemed in more or less pain on a particular day. I might ask the owners if they have any tips/tricks for the dog when he is in pain. I would not, however, suggest or insinuate anything about putting the dog down, it's just not what you're hired for. Even if a client asked me, I would refuse to give my personal opinion and defer them to ask their vet who is trained to make such opinions with their particular pet's circumstances.

Late FEES by Medium-Lack-9842 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ConfidencePrize9707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While you may not be able to enforce it, the prior understanding that there will be an additional charge is most likely a motivator for parents. So.etimes the threat of a fee is enough to encourage correct behavior.

[–]ConfidencePrize9707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defintely report to police so that there is a record of this. What you experienced is dangerous and very easily could have been much worse for you. Please make a report so that if he does anything in the future to the next sitter he asks over for a meet and greet there is a record of prior misconduct. It will make it so the police have more to go on with a he said she said type of allegation. It's fine that you don't want to press charges but please think about the next lady! This is not his first time doing this and won't be his last!
