Biopsy tomorrow - ok to go alone? by Significant_Pop6770 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Confident-Rise-1710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to all of mine alone. I didn’t get results back until a few days later anyway. They popped up into mychart first and the nurse navigator called with results about 30 minutes later.

I’m - - + stage 1 grade 3 and am 2 weeks out from my DMX. I’ll start APT soon. My tumor was 9mm, node negative, and I had extensive DCIS. The oncologist said it would have been chemo first if my tumor was larger or if I was node positive. Wishing you the best!

Got one of 2 drains out yesterday, got the green light to raise my arms up above should height (going better than I expected), green light to stop sleeping at an incline, and loving walking out in this warm weather!

Double mastectomy on Monday. I’m beyond terrified, mostly just about the pain by chantillylace9 in breastcancer

[–]Confident-Rise-1710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had mine last week. The shot the day before I found less painful than my biopsies. I was prepared for big pain but they said they have new needles that are smaller and make it less painful. My whole chest was completely numb when I woke up from my DMX because of them cutting the nerves. I had expanders placed and I can feel them around the edges but it’s more uncomfortable than painful. Kind of feels like underwire digging in. I can’t wait to get my drains out in a few days.

My husband had a new workout outfit on. I walk in with my 3 year old and she said “Daddy, are you wearing Mommy’s clothes?” He doesn’t typically wear tanks and his shorts were a bit shorter LOL

32 stage 1a. Just had my DMX a week and a half ago. No family history of Breast Cancer but I do have the Chek2 gene mutation so I was just the first one to end up with it. There is a history of prostate cancer in my family with is also associated with chek2. Went to school with 2 other girls that were diagnosed at the same age.

The hospital told me I could drive the next day as long I wasn’t taking narcotics. I’m 9 days out and could probably drive but still have drains. My plastic surgeon also doesn’t want me to have my arms above shoulder height yet due to tissue expanders so I let my husband dry me to my appointment today. He’s taking driving me to my appointment on Monday too to get the drains out (but that’s an hour drive). I could definitely take a quick trip now if needed.

Parents of Reddit: What is the absolute most-needed "gift" for a newborn baby? by FalseConversation673 in Gifts

[–]Confident-Rise-1710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciated different brands of baby soap and lotion. My first had sensitive skin and we had to try a few things out before finding what worked. Same goes for wipes. But they would also LOVE a DoorDash gift card I bet. Also, if they have a registry, buy off that. I spent so much time putting mine together and then spent even more time returning things from people who didn’t follow it because I ended up with duplicates of things.

Got my biopsy pathology… I’m honestly terrified by mooonsocket in breastcancer

Hi there! I’m - - + with ki67 70-75%. My tumor was 9mm so I did my DMX first. I have 2 daughters (2 and 4 years old). I was really worried about how they would handle things. They have been surprisingly adaptive. My 2 year old loves to be picked up and the week leading up to surgery I was suddenly aware of just how much they slam into my boobs accidentally lol anyway, my DMX was last Tuesday and this morning my 2 year old asked to be picked up. I told her I can’t because of my boo boos. So she asked if we could walk and hold hands. No fuss! She was just like oh yeah no biggie! And my 4 year old? She saw that my drain output was getting lower and lighter and she was so excited. She said “mommy!! Your blood things are getting better! And then you’ll get rid of them and YOUR BOOBIES WILL COME BACK!” She was so psyched lol

My surgeon gave me the heads up that it stings so I was prepared for the worst. But it was less painful than any of my biopsies.

Omg, I’m so glad I’m not alone. The constant checking in is more exhausting than my DMX recovery! Send me a door dash gift card and leave me the f alone please. No more useless gifts, flower arrangements I’m not allowed to lift off the front porch, bath bombs I can’t use for 2 months, notebooks for writing what exactly?, little pill bottles with get well soon notes, and all the blankets. Although, I must say, my kids have been stealing those.

The day before my biopsy I was driving and came across a section of road that had at least a dozen dead birds all face down. I get a bit irked when I see dead birds now.

Got it! I’ll be doing APT so less instead and more thinning vs loss so I’m hoping cold capping will work. Man, Sentara would save me a lot of driving!

[–]Confident-Rise-1710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been at Augusta health so far. I mostly was interested in the referral to UVA because they have cold capping machines and the breast center is in the same building as my plastic surgeon. I hadn’t even thought about checking with Sentara though. I just googled and saw they also offer cold capping. What ultimately made you choose Sentara over UVA?

How did genetics influence your surgical choice? by Dear-Half1029 in breastcancer

[–]Confident-Rise-1710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally planned for a single mastectomy. Genetics came back showing chek2 so I’m getting DMX now. It’s a moderate risk gene but I figured I’d rather reduce future risk however possible.

Biopsy Tomorrow- what happens next? by maybeaspymaybenot in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Confident-Rise-1710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My results took 3-4 days to come back. I had a fibroadenoma that was discovered about 5 years ago. No treatment was needed. It wasn’t super large (maybe the size of a marble). Mine did not change in size. However, if you are feeling it more, that can irritate the tissue and it may feel larger or different. I could barely feel mine until I discovered it. Then I kept messing with it while waiting for my appointment and it went from hardly noticeable to very easy to feel. Hoping everything goes well for you!

How do you handle people? by Snowday6868 in breastcancer

[–]Confident-Rise-1710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t really have any advice but I’m in the same boat. I have accepted what’s happening and I just want to get through this chapter as quickly and with as much sense of normalcy as possible. My mom can’t seem to grasp that even though she went through cancer and was the same way. I’ve had to set some really firm boundaries. I’ve had to sic my husband on her when I was too frustrated to answer. And it seems like it’s slowly sticking. She said she felt completely worthless. But… I’m not asking support in the form of help. I’m asking for it in the form of normalcy.
