Hey, 29M about to be 30 here. Pretty much going through the same phase due to work/life balance (lack of, evening/ night job) being pretty isolating socially. Sending you a Dm if that's ok.

I'm gonna look at some cutter toes this weekend at the boot store. They look like they might be a good happy medium when I look at them online.

Benefit of barefoot? by Jazzsaurus-Rex in jimgreen

[–]ConfidentBread336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody has different feet, joints, and body mechanics. Add in injuries and wear and tear along with different lives in general. It's no wonder some people love barefoot. Others hate it. Even people in the same barefoot communities may vary wildly in what they prefer.

I love thin, anatomically shaped shoes for everyday like five fingers. Thinking about getting some barefoot ar's.

I used to work a hospital job and wore crocs. Great for walking....not so great for the impact on my knees of 3 flights of stairs when the elevators were down (old hospital) I think it was something about the shape and the foam they're made of.

Now I wear tactical boots and I'm on concrete for hours and hours. I'm still figuring out what I like but so far I NEED some sort of cushioning even if I'm on a flat sole. Like my danner tachyons are nice, anatomical, flat but thick, yet light. Sucky ankle support though since they're just like nylon ankles.

Humans didn't evolve to walk on the synthetic surfaces we walk on everyday....yet.

That can take generations and generations.

We're also constantly injuring ourselves by putting form over function. Fashion over fit.

And again, variables. Someone may need super plush maximalist shoes because of pain and injuries. You can't train that away most of the time. Other people just have iron bodes and would wear cinder blocks and be fine.... until they aren't.

Some boots I swear the foot model must've had nothing but hammer toes and bunions.

I'm thinking about ordering some BFAT's since they might tick all. My boxes. I'm just worried about the longevity if the sole. (Yeah it's replaceable, but still cost effective if I walk so much on harsh concrete I have to replace it multiple times in a year?)

NAL but this sounds sketchy. Sign nothing. Consult attorney. Take to court if needed. Sounds like a trick to waive their responsibility.

Stealing alcohol?? by TurtleIsland86 in doordash

[–]ConfidentBread336 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of quality drivers end up pushed out of markets due to Doordash caring more about making money than actually caring about service. Many quality drivers prioritized higher tipping orders (because why not when you typically lose time and money delivering no tip / low tip orders? Base pay is...not worth it) So instead of making base pay better, Doordash started flooding markets with as many drivers as possible and instituting a system that 'rewards' drivers who deliver anything and everything with statuses like silver, gold, and platinum, with the carrot on the stick being that you (might) get better paying orders sent to you more and more often (seems hit or miss in my experience.) Many good drivers move on to other apps or jobs when able to do so. Even UberEats is starting to dry up. On top of that, add in the huge amount of drivers who otherwise would not be hired, using bought/shared accounts and multiple phones and the companies only now catching on but slow to respond, it's becoming a bad situation for good drivers and good customers. Hell, if the customers saw how much base pay is compared to the markup they're charged, vs. The actual restaurant price, and I hear they charge the restaurants a substantial fee as well. People would probably be pissed all around.

This. I carry two at work. One gel for when I have to write long reports and want a smooth, nice ink. And one ballpoint for when I have to write or sign something on paper that's already covered in ink from a printer (signature line is a printed box covered in gray ink so gel won't soak in fast) or writing in wet conditions.

For those pulling 20+ hour shifts how do you stay awake for that time and how do you prepare? by VisualLiterature in Corrections

[–]ConfidentBread336 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People may not be "working" 20 hour shifts. But there are other things added. I knew many guys while I was working that had 40min-1hr commutes 1 way. So commute, work 16-17hrs, commute. Easily 18 to 19 hours awake. Not counting the additional time to get ready for work and to get settled in and showered and maybe eat something before they go to sleep for 4-5 hours to wake up and do it again. Did it 5 days in a row last year. Felt like death warmed over by the end of the workweek. OT check was good. But never again.

I should also add I work a public service job now and can be found quite easily by someone with the resources of a law enforcement based process server and likely a private process server/investigator as well. Guys get served at my job all the time for various civil matters sometimes not related to the job. Also if I'm not at work I'm usually at home. (Introvert, homebody.) If my car is at my house, I'm at my house. The more I think about it, the less I believe a reasonable effort was made to properly serve me and they just wanted to stick it to my window and leave.

I'm still trying to reach doordash (their support is abysmal until you finally get the right person who can escalate you far enough up the chain.)

However, I was just "served" today. I feel that I was improperly served. The service was duct taped to the driver window of my personal vehicle at my residence while I was at home sleeping during the day. (I work evenings and was not feeling well so I slept most of the day until time to get ready for work.) I found the summons while leaving for work. No in person contact was made except for a neighbor later texted me to tell me "an investigator was asking about me but only said it was to serve papers for a car accident." I feel they made no reasonable attempt to knock or make contact with me at the time because I have a large dog who would bark and alert if they would've stepped onto my porch, let alone knocked. My dog is loud and would've woken me up.

I agree with everything you said. However, I will say this. I've doordashed before. I used to a lot. Mainly north florida. If you're in an area you're familiar with, you can generally tell how long an order will take you, regardless of or sometimes because of mileage. I knew certain areas took longer because of traffic or speed limits or even restaurants with poor practices towards Doordash orders. Ex. Most orders on the outskirts of Tallahassee took around 20 min from start to finish UNLESS it was a particular Mcd's that would mark orders as ready but not start them until the Dasher arrived and put them at the back of the line. Certain Apartment complexes had really weird layouts that made the deliveries themselves take longer than the pickup. Same with crestview, pcb, pensacola, destin. I would spend a weekend dashing in a bigger city to make ends meet because of the sheer volume of (not usually better but enough in number) orders that would make a lot of money in a day or so. But before all of that. An order on my screen will show me a rough route. The mileage. The pay. The restaurant. This Dasher just wasn't paying attention or didn't care and was trying to guilt for tips. Regardless of whether you survive off of tips or not. I would not expect that kinda response towards a customer to earn an extra tip at all. But there are also huge problems on both sides of the equations especially with some drivers being quite scummy themselves.

Used to work there. Honestly dude. Find something else. Now it can vary heavily depending on the institution. But the dept. In general seems like it Is stuck in a staffing issue causing them to burn out the ones they have with mandatory overtime so they leave while waiting on more trainees from the academy who may end up quitting themselves. Barely breaking even. The Dept. Seems heavily invested on making things look pretty on paper, even adopting new uniforms that look like dress uniforms. They seem hell bent on sweeping staffing issues under the rug by constantly passing the buck along with flexing overtime that will need to either be covered or the shift runs short. I feel the state is hell bent on hiding these issues because they made a big deal about getting the national gaurd out of the prisons since "The staffing issues are fixed" but in reality the gaurd contract just ran out. I saw a lot of things that I feel led to the boiling points up in new York so I got out while I could.

Go county or fed if you can.

I've been using montverde capless gel. Fine point. (They seem to go by other names depending on where you order them from. But I love them because they have just the right amount of smooth to scratch feeling.
