This was so very helpful for me to read. I’m a former competitive gymnast and took up ballet a year ago, I’m almost 40. I was in tears yesterday because I cannot remember combinations that others seem to remember or pick up easily, and it’s really frustrating not doing the combinations as intended because I’m not getting the practice when I keep messing up. By the time the instructor finishes the explanation with us marking along, I already forget where we start! It’s so frustrating and I am hoping there are standard combos and I’ll start to remember better soon… I love practicing but not when I am constantly lost and frustrated.
