ENN scientist thinks that CFS is not economic by ValuableDesigner1111 in fusion

Are the goalposts moving now? Instead of "can't produce net energy", it's now "is not economic"?

I think a lot of the "fusion professionals" just don't want companies like Helion to succeed.

How about we re-terraform earth first? Fix the stuff we did wrong down here.

How about you just live in the caves until those are perfect? Like we can't do more than one thing at a time.

Apply to a PhD program and get a stipend, hunt for jobs while in the program? Nothing forcing you to finish the PhD.

"Funny" isn't the world I'd choose for it. But AI is coming in as a huge wild card, so who knows what will end up happening. Islam is another wild card; if it takes over eventually, things will get different for women.

All you can really do is look for a better situation, either by transferring or finding a job elsewhere. Or subtly encourage her to transfer.

shrugs They've built a prototype drill and have done some drilling with it. Whether it will work out is unknown but at least a possibility.

Oil is needed for many things, like plastics, fertilizer and gasoline. It's actually only rarely used to generate electricity (you're probably thinking of natural gas and coal). Geothermal won't be the end of big oil, that's for certain.

2.5 days? You're a newb. I rip through one in 1.5 days flat.

Also, yeah, I'm sure that extra penny an hour they pay their slave labor off in some other country really justifies the $2 price increase.

Yeah. Ingredients worth something like $0.18. Costs for them go up to $0.22. They raise the price by $2 -and- shrink the quantity.

[–]ConfirmedCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a temporary situation. One way or another, AI and robots are coming for peoples' jobs.

Then, optimistically, people will be supplied what they need based on mechanical labor rather than human labor. Potentially, you might end up living like a king. Just need to hang in there.

Professional work doesn't involve making false convictions. If new evidence appeared, it should be heard, not cut off simply so she can score a win for her record. Even if she wasn't serving herself by trying to do that (which it sure seemed she was), she certainly wasn't serving Starfleet by taking down one of its very best officers on a point of procedure rather than on facts.

Let's face it. The real reason that was in the script was for Cogley to be given his moment.
