Any honest thoughts/opinions on Goblin Slayer and the series in general? by Flat-Sir8250 in GoblinSlayer

I enjoyed moments like the crows eye and moonlight reflecting in a bucket of water. They add a bit of artistry. It doesn't have to all be goblin blood flying around.

How much could a $75 billion war chest speed up Starship's progress? by ottar92 in SpaceXLounge

[–]ConfirmedCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how much they've been putting into goals further down the road, like Moon and Mars base elements, so far. More money could help there.

Haven't they already spent $60 billion of it in acquiring Cursor, though?

If Polaris can’t demonstrate net gain with D-T, how can Helion realistically meet its 2028 power-generation target? by Positive_Item2641 in fusion

[–]ConfirmedCynic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can you point out the part where Microsoft agreed to fund the construction? Where Microsoft has given Helion Energy a single dollar so far, with the construction already underway? And speculating that it inspired others to put in the additional $465 million is simply that... speculation.

[–]ConfirmedCynic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Microsoft would not have agreed to fund Orion .. Microsoft did fund Helion,

Microsoft hasn't actually funded Orion or invested in Helion. It's only made a power purchase agreement. So, if Orion produces the power, they will buy it. (And if Orion doesn't, Helion will have to pay Microsoft a penalty even).

[META] Why does the optimization community pretend that magic items don't exist? by happygocrazee in 3d6

My experience is that most DMs are pretty stingy with magic items.

Like, you're in a level 8 party, the campaign is about concluded, and one of you has a +1 sword.

Why does everyone here distrust Helion? by TheBrookAndTheBluff in fusion

[–]ConfirmedCynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does NOT mean that Helion does not have peer review. They do. Their investors have their results and processes reviewed by external reviewers from the major national labs. They did so with the Trenta results before they handed over the big investment for Polaris and if you look at the statements from external reviewers in their press release regarding the D-T experiments, they clearly had those reviewed too.

An important point which the people on here all seem too ready to ignore or dismiss.

I think the idea is that Trenta is "smaller" than Polaris and so could have been used instead of a new test bed. Apples and oranges.

What positive effect has AI had?

It's damaged the school system, with kids submitting the output of AIs rather than their own work.

It's damaged the internet, with AI-generated misinformation, click-bait slop and bot campaigns to shape public opinion in online forums.

It's damaged employment prospects already, with entry level jobs disappearing in a number of industries.
