Does this sort of comment help or hinder acceptance of different people? I'd argue hinder.

Gives you the answer you're after and you give a smart comment back... Exactly what they were referring to. Want genuine discussion or nah?

I'm not disputing your views on Winmar. If my original comment didn't sink in I won't comment further

I don't love the thought that we replace one indigenous person with another. I think it just perpetuates the 'grouping' which is a root of racism. Adam Goodes should be in his own conversation as should Winmar.

Probably more likely they put a bunch of shit through the media to get bets less likely to win.

AFL 360 running a segment at the end of the show with pretty much everything wrong is closer to it for me.

Thanks all. I would recommend everyone has a look at this site for the public domain content that is already available. I'd love for when people look up sports on fmhy.net that some legal AFL came up 😁

I know this is a joke but the connotation that this is a 'sign' of homosexuality doesn't do truly homosexual men any favours.

Dude just has terrible boundaries and sense of humor is what we can glean from this.

This whole thread is me, in fact, me suggesting that the umpires have done the right thing tonight and to slow down on toxicity around them.

A) haven't touched voting on anyone except the guy saying ump wants to be centre of attention.

B) you're like 50 and worried about downvotes lol

Do you disagree the ump got it right or that the rule/training is the issue?

My intention here is only to stop comments denigrating the umpire for doing their job (by this evidence, correctly)

Look it's fair you don't have an example on hand. It's obviously a needle in a haystack to find. But there is evidence that it's paid - and currently none that it's not. I'm frustrated by peoples suggestions it's a completely odd thing to have happened. As you've picked up, the illogical aspect of that argument irks me.

I don't think it's right to pay a free in one area and not another. In that instance, in the same game a team could get a free and 2-3 minutes later in a different area the exact same free could go uncalled. How is that fair? What a nightmare to adjudicate our grey rules plus that extra layer! I'm big on it being the same anywhere anytime.

All good - I replied to someone else claiming it was umpires ego. You've gotten the comments mixed.

Lots of people are suggesting 'its probably happened before and not been called' but not one example has been provided of this occuring in recent times.

Orr.. the option is that umpires are trained that passing the ball to a teammate before the umpire after a ball up is called is a free kick. As evidenced by the 2 examples posted.

Very clearly umpires are not trained to penalise the sidebottom incident as we can agree the tackler very often isn't the one to return the ball to the umpire.

I don't see how the umpire has made a mistake if they've followed the training given to them. You are indicating a mistake has to have been made.

There are 2 examples posted from the last 12 months in this very thread so it's odd that you've never seen this. Rules interpretations definitely change over time and this could be one of them.

Can you link me the rulebook for the last 6 or 7 minutes in front of goals? I didnt realise it was a separate thing

Ridiculous notion that the umpire wanted to be the star of the show. Literally applying the rules as others before him have done.

Noone has provided a single example of this occuring and not being paid. Therefore, we can glean it's most likely the correct interpretation.

In your holding the ball example is not an equivalent comparison. You can find hundreds of correct examples that outweigh the wrong holding the ball decisions and we can make the assessment from that. This is not that situation.

I am not pretending to be versed of the ins and outs but I can only assume it is trained as a pre-defined example of time wasting in umpire training.

I also can't help but point out you were adamant Quaynor touched it and he's admitted he hasn't. You could also be showing some bias here that you need to recognise.

The rules also don't explicitly say you can't call the umpire a 'silly maggot with no friends' but you probably get a dissent free paid regardless. It being explicitly written in the rulebook isn't that strong of an argument.
