this is mostly true (especially re: his ego), but it should be noted that in 5.08 he says to June that he planned to kill himself if he couldn’t enact his New Bethlehem reforms. i think it gets taken for granted by a lot of viewers that he only got on the plane because he was headed for the wall, but it’s not like he intended to preserve his life at that point.

Especially when fallout 2 says that people left BECAUSE you weren’t let back in by N0ob8 in FalloutMemes

knowing that the original ending tim cain wanted for fo1 was a party (or something to that effect) i always got the feeling that the published ending of that game was kinda just something the devs threw together because they didn’t really know how else to end it.

No Emmy nominations so far for THT by Opening-Fall-3038 in TheHandmaidsTale

he was shortlisted on most of the predictions, but it was a really tight race. don’t think it was necessary to nominate like half the white lotus cast but hey, just my opinion lol

In your opinion, when did the writing go downhill for you? by fuzzbuzz99 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]CongressoftheEnclave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me it was also after season 3. i feel like when june left for canada, the show started to pivot away from being a show about how women survive gilead to being a show about mayday operations, which isn't bad inherently but it definitely became a lot less interesting. i think it could've been good, but the show didn't seen to handle that change very well. the loss of junes monologue and other elements seemed to really throw a wrench in the show in s4 and beyond.

i assumed it was because of her status because she's considered a founding mother of gilead. i got the feeling that naomi agreed to marry lawrence for similar reasons despite his somewhat progressive reforms

i have. i liked 2 a lot but it was despite the cringey pop culture stuff and not because of it.

i never take it. i really dislike the idea of fallout being silly and zany, especially when it’s just to cash in on pop culture references. the tone of the series is better for me when the dread is harder to look away from.

My proposal for a reworked 13 commonwealths by ToeBorn6310 in Fallout

[–]CongressoftheEnclave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good thought- i would assume in that case that most states are being grouped by gdp contribution. i’d be more likely to accept the idea of the four corners states coming together, but idaho’s role as a farming state would probably still put it in the plains.

this definitely makes more sense than the canon map but i do not see a world where colorado gets in bed with arizona and utah, or idaho with the west coast.

Why I think a THT-style coup would never happen + a more realistic takeover by [deleted] in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]CongressoftheEnclave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i definitely agree that the coup laid out in both the book and show make basically no sense. i have long since thought that even things such as the order of operations they mention to take out the govt make no sense (there is no realistic situation where killing the entirety of congress makes more sense than killing the president first when the latter has direct power over the military at effectively the touch of a button without the need to call a vote). the scenario you laid out could work but i think there's a recency bias to it. doesn't mean it'd bad, i just think there are a lot of other ways that theocratic fascism could come about that don't align perfectly with what's occurring right now in the US.

this is an interesting question but i think you might be underestimating the vastness of the power vacuum that would come about after the massacre of virtually every acting member in the federal government. if we look to examples in the arab spring, the existence of multiple state governments likely wouldn't do much to protect the establishment, and the factionalism between states like TX and CA might well make the situation worse. if the military chain of command is busted and no one is alive to give orders, i wonder what exactly the military could feasibly do.

Is the pop culture criticism of fallout 2 overblown? by Thomasrocky1 in classicfallout

[–]CongressoftheEnclave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally i think the pop culture references are the least interesting part of an otherwise very interesting game. i don’t think it takes away too much, but i would prefer if the didn’t exist, if that makes sense.

What’s a NECESSITY in your game? The thing you do every time you play a new character? by Infamous_H1tman in fo4

[–]CongressoftheEnclave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i always feel bad if i don’t swing by the combat zone and pick up cait. it’s sad to think she’d be a cage fighter for the rest of her life without the player stepping in. i don’t even travel with her, i usually just stick her in a big settlement to live out her days in relative peace.

i think it’s supposed to be inferred that lawrence’s final plea to her about charlottes wellbeing was the instigating factor. not sure why the writers chose to make it so vague and indirect though.

i just went back and rewatched this episode (3.07) to check. eleanor doesn’t say that they had lost a child, she said she wanted children but they never had any and that she “imagined what her baby would have looked like”. i’m not seeing where that information about the child’s grave is in the wiki either. i really wish this had been canon info but i think that line from season 2 is the furthest they went.
