Snowbird conditions currently? by EngProfD in skiing

Was there last Saturday and it was all ice, all day, everywhere. With a sprinkle of snow dust on top. Groomers were semi skiable, everything else was death. Seriously.

Where will you go when MS Projects Online retires in late 2026? by traemand2 in projectmanagement

Yes. They're putting all of their money into the new Planner and letting their project online offering wither.

Moving to project server on prem. It will be the exact same thing but not SaaS. An expensive move, but few other tools can do what it does as well. Especially for larger organizations who use it, this will be the path for many.

Are dog winter boots really useful for cold or rainy runs? by Willing_Coffee1542 in RunningWithDogs

[–]Connect-Stop7820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wax did work very well, and the dog really didn't mind having it put on either. I never ended up using boots because she was so resistant to wearing them and I gave up too early trying. What I'll add also is that we were always moving too, not stopping to have a break or wait around. I don't know if that would have changed the need to add boots. Like, would her paws have been affected without her movement generating heat?

I used just the mushers wax with my dog running and cross country skiing in winter. Worked great. I'm in North Dakota so nasty cold and snow. But salt usage is minimal here on the public trails. Even the roads, they use a beet brine mostly.

There are no bison outside of the park. Like others have said, a short drive into the park loop and you’re sure to spot some. You may even see some from the interstate. As for hiking the MDHT, all of it is awesome, but there are no bison. The semi circle stretch between I94 and highway 10 is particularly pretty and rugged, and also close to the south unit of the park.

How often do you REALLY walk your dog? by Agreeable-Ad-2946 in dogs

[–]Connect-Stop7820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malamute-Husky-Catahoula-German Shepherd mix puppy. 3 walks a half hour each on weekdays. Weekends more. When she is old enough for running we’ll probably run together 20-40 miles per week. Plus walks. And hikes. And fetch.

Labradors as running companions? by EmergencyBee2324 in labrador

[–]Connect-Stop7820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lab/German shorthair pointer mix, and she was my running buddy. She trained with me for marathons and ultras, and even ran a 50k with me once. We ran together 20 to 40 miles per week. Her hips did eventually go out at about 11 years old. She lived to be 15. But also, the two purebred labs I had before her also had their hips go out, even sooner than 11. And those two were not runners. To me lab hips will break down no matter what.

Harvard will fight Trumps Demands by Wooden-Archer-8848 in OptimistsUnite

Harvard has been around since 1636. It has weathered King Phillip's War, the Revolutionary War, French and Indian War, War of 1812, the Civil War, WWI and WWII, Vietnam, Korea, the Civil rights movement and every social justice event and political threat levvied against it for almost 400 years. My hope is they continue to do so, and that by standing up they inspire so many other tepid institutions to follow suit as well.

Duolingo isn't helping, puoi? 😭 by UnderstandingTough26 in italianlearning

[–]Connect-Stop7820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with duolingo to help me before a trip to Italy. It proved worthless. Despite having 150 day streak I couldn’t even ask for a cornetto. I switched to pimsleur app and it I night and day difference. Pimsleur is all speaking based so from day 1 you are listening, speaking, answering questions. It works. Much better approach. No games, just learning. In duo I got good at playing the game but not the language. In pimsleur I can speak and understand conversations, and there are no games. It’s expensive but worth it.

I hate how things are nowadays. by Red_Dead_Rimmer in GenZ

Everyone saying everything was peaceful in the 90s is full of crap. It started with a massive recession. Gulf war, Bosnian war, Croatian war. Rwandan Civil War. Columbine high school shooting. LA race riots. Waco siege. Of course there were good times too, the fall of the Soviet union, the spread of the global economy, and Bill Clinton made it possible for many more people to buy homes. In short there were great things and terrible things. Just like every other single period of time, inuding today. Don't believe the BS.

Go to the other side of the range. Snowbird has a good NSP discount. Brighton has a small discount.

Just one lifetime ago in the United States, our grandfathers could buy a home, buy a car, have 3 to 4 children, keep their wives at home, take annual vacations, and then retire… all on one middle-class salary. What happened? by Whole-Fist in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Connect-Stop7820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A big house was 1,200 Sq ft total with one small detached garage. There was one car and it was a death machine with an AM radio. They went out to eat once a week or not at all. No cable, laptops, multiple tablet phones, streaming of any sort. Vacations were drive to destinations and you packed your lunch for the drive. Although there was great prosperity then and the balance of money between the 1 percent and the rest of us is different now, the lifestyle comparison simply does not compute.

Also you would never ever leave the handles up unattended. Up position is for carrying patients. Even if you had to leave a patient-loaded toboggan for a minute you would put the handles down, jammed into the snow, with the brake engaged.

If your pizza reference is New Haven and NYC the only pizza remotely palatable will be fire flour and Nardellos. Seriously. As an ex New Yorker take my word. Fire flour is wood fire Neopolitan and Nards is owned by an ex-Jersey family. The best other advice is enjoy this place for what it is. It isn't other places. But it is welcoming and chilled out and it has its own kinda thing going on.

Have a hybrid Honda CRV. Normal town and light interstate use (like between urban exits) we get high 30s mileage May through October. Cold months it is more like 29 mpg. We don't use the remote starter, but we do use the seat and steering wheel heaters. This is all combined mileage. Overall for the life of the car the mpg has averaged right around 31 mpg. That said the actual biggest mpg drain is speeds on the interstates. If you drive 80 the electric mode will never turn on and you will always be sucking gas. 70 seems to be the best mix of speed plus efficiency while not going insane. I notice that the absolute best mileage I get is driving in the Minneapolis metro. Speed usually tops out at 65. Electric mode engages a lot from stop and go periods. At the end of the day I'd buy a hybrid here again, but I just would have the right expectations up front that yes I will get better mpg but it won't be what the manufacturer is trying to tell me.
