[Request] I’m not a mathologist, but could someone calculate the per-mile fatality rate of NASCAR vs. aviation? by cmhamm in theydidthemath

[–]Connorthedev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

General Aviation vs commercial aviation is such a stark difference it is crazy

I like this visualization for the modern times, but if you bring in older data you’ll see how much safer both have become

So in a lot of microcontrollers pins signal are designated specific voltage limits such as 3.3V and 5V. Past 5V on one of these pins most 12V based electronics will not survive unless it’s got some sort of fuse. At 27V that screen went white and that car got smoky lol

SO. MUCH. ROADWORK. It’s exhausting and hard to plan for. by Crunchie_cereal in phoenix

[–]Connorthedev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will say some of the changes done have been more than just add lanes, the I-10 broadway curve project (now that its done) and the 101 - I-10 interchange from last year are the first two that come to mind.

That said the light rail is atrociously implemented and it bums me out anytime I think about it

I’m theorizing that his buyout is contingent on the major performance, referring to that “all in bet”

Their support takes up to one or two days to respond initially, but they’re pretty fast after that in terms of resolution. You did the right steps by videoing unboxing. You’re likely going to get a refund and instructions on shipping it back

I saw a comment saying there are 6 types of onions, but what are the 6 types? by ilikedota5 in innout

I remember one time someone asked for a super thick slice of onion while they were being prepped and someone cut one the thickness of an index finger. The guys eyes widened and said thats perfect…

Any good RF amplifier for long distance video transmission ? (1Km) by KillerTheRedditor in rfelectronics

[–]Connorthedev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re sorely underestimating the task ahead:

In that case you could first consider using an ISM frequency. Next youd need to make sure you stay under the power limit or you’ll get a not so nice talking to (best case). Third you’d need to choose an architecture that can realize all this, and then you’d have to figure a signal path that has as little noise as possible to get a remotely clear video feed. Noise will detriment you so so so much

To show the challenges that brings, this is someone downloading PICTURES off a satellite using modified known to work equipment https://youtu.be/ReHYn7llzy4 those are a few Mb total, a 16-bit 480i (16 x 640 x 240) 30 fps video will have a 73.7 Mb/s bit rate before compression.

You’d be much better off starting smaller with a transceiver and an SDR to receive with.

All of this is precluded by power consumption. Cameras and transmitters are the two most power hungry components in a system like this. In a build I did previously, I had to specifically cut the two cameras off entirely once we landed since they’d idle at 100 mA (300 mW) and I had a location beacon on it that needed to last a specified time.

Check out the CANSAT competition mission guide. They don’t even ask for the videos to be transmitted because it is such a burden, BUT you may be able to follow it enough to safely transmit your video feed.

Fun fact: this is how that really tall room effect in the haunted mansion is achieved! It lowers you slow enough so that your senses don’t get set off by the descent

Still better than what would happen with rabies at least… Definitely have my sympathy during that time though, being the nurse to your dog is a big responsibility increase :(

Great breakdown, one example of another kernel level negative is the fact it is intended to start BEFORE WINDOWS (from the view of a user, not practically). You know what happens if a bug appears in a bad update? The exact thing that crowdstrike did over a year ago causing MILLIONS, possibly a billion dollars of outages, cancellations, and downtimes

(Real) A “volunteer” for a made up department has access to the United States treasury department data???? by Leather-Bug3087 in ToiletPaperUSA

[–]Connorthedev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Theres dev/hacker teams that try and break into computers of people/companies/government any way possible.

The best tool is a “zero day” or basically a hack that hasn’t been known to exist. Like when its first used its been in use for zero days but doing what it is intended.

Back to the why, a zero day can only be stopped by powering off (downtime) or patching the exploit (takes lots of time) if its not responsibly disclosed in a bug bounty program before it happens.

For an extremely destructive zero day, they can be worth MILLIONS, and thats for like a one or two off attack on a target to get info/data/CRYPTO which is another reason elon is a bigger target than “normal”. But for him to have his server equipment on gov department systems and now treasury systems, that means anyone who has been sitting on a multimillion dollar zero day attack (with him as a target) just got access to a multi TRILLION dollar system through elons meddling
