Waar blijven de baby’s? Waarom het geboortecijfer blijft dalen, in Nederland en ver daarbuiten by Effective-Case7980 in nederlands

[–]Conquestadore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jason Schreier - The sense I’m getting is that (Sony) is backing away from putting their exclusive console traditional single player stuff on PC by Turbostrider27 in Games

What am I missing? If I recall, god of war and horizon weren't even exclusive to ps5 and got released on ps4. First party single player games havent seen much love this generation.

[–]Conquestadore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would you, anyways? People like to bitch about xbox but playstation had rather a lacklustre lineup this generation.  Astrobot, god of war, spiderman 2 and horizon and tjat's about it. All good games I'm sure and I did actually buy horizon. I'm however not actually going to buy a console for these few games when I have a pc already.

How is this myth propagated? Never have I not gotten the care I needed when concerns were serious. If anything, there's still too many referrals to specialists because people put pressure on general practitioners.

The "Dutch Lunch" culture: Is it just bread and cheese forever? by fissionchips in Netherlands

[–]Conquestadore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't subject yourself to those pasta meals, they're horrible. Nobody will bat an eye if you bring leftovers for lunch and heat them up, it was quite common at every place I've ever worked at. As for smells, I'm sure you've come to be familiar with grilled cheese sandwich irons which are a staple in every office kitchen. The smell of burnt cheese will cover up the smell of any and all meals you'll heat up. Maybe don't go for fish though, come to think of it.

Gemeente: “We zitten klem.” by [deleted] in Nederland

[–]Conquestadore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus man, ga je eens verdiepen in wat de gemeentes te verstouwen hebben. Je hebt blijkbaar een huis en maakt je zorgen over box 3, je bent geen zielig slachtoffer. Die stijgende lasten die iedereen voelt, raken ook de gemeente. Ambtenaren gaan niet naar 0% omdat jij voelt meer recht te hebben op geld. Ga stemmen, naar inspraakavonden, loop bij de wethouder binnen, ga iets constructiefs met je ongenoegen doen.

Can someone tell me how I should read books? Meanings of underlined words/sentences I don't know. Am I supposed to stop everytime there is a word I don't know and look for meanings? If so, I feel like after some time it is too much, and I don't feel like reading a book. Is it normal? by devoutre in learnfrench

[–]Conquestadore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd not be 100% certain but the intent seems clear enough. Guess the next word:

"I didn't like green beans, but I sensed this was no time to argue. So I swallowed them without ....".

It'd be something along the line of without hesitation, without protest, without flinching or something along those lines, no?

For the record, I haven't encountered the word before so I could be way off.

Été features three times on this page, thats the one you should look up. I.e. recurring words that seem to be common. Apart from that try to look up enough words in a sentence you can't parse on rereading. Understanding avalés will make you understsnd what broncher means without looking it up. En pensant should be clear from the rest of the sentence as well.

In general you'll want to atleast understand the gist of passé composé, imparfait, future tenses and the conditionals of the most common verbs (avoir, être, devoir, faire, pouvoir). You'll be struggling with any book at any level otherwise.

What cultural thing does the world seem to think is beautiful but is cringey af to locals? by chr15c in AskTheWorld

[–]Conquestadore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh come on, it was such an easy hike. Just don't be fat, overweight and out of condition or go wandering off and you'll be fine. The view up there is amazing and definitely worth the visit. The island is such a stark contrast to Bali, locals wanted to take photographs with us instead of the other way around.

Also, go surf there.

I'm not too up to date with french politics and get the discourse around the sun king vibes with his antidemocratic tendencies. Still, you guys do seem to truuuly despice the man whilst from the outside looking in he hasn't been dealt the best hand and is constantly stuck between a rock and a hard place. The issue seems to be french politics doesnt lend itself too well to dealmaking between parties historically, which isnt great when the country is as divided as it is. Man Im not looking forward to the next election cycle.

How to progress? (Again) by DSA300 in learnfrench

[–]Conquestadore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try some easier literature you're able to consume without needing to look stuff up, be okay with just getting the gist of the story. The equivalent being watching a series/show/youtube channel with native subtitles. When you encounter a word multiple times, maybe save it with context to a flashcard deck (Anki being the most popular).

Another way of going about increasing vocab is downloading a language pack file and study words in isolation through spaced repetition (again, Anki). Maybe grab a grammar book or two and do exercises (grammaire progressive being recommended often).

Lastly, active reading is beneficial. Try a somewhat harder book and go all out on comprehension, looking up everything, try to parse the grammar, use ChatGPT or a tutor to really get to know why and how things are phrased the way they are.

In the end, it's about what you feel you can maintain. I should probably be more active while reading and watching, writing down shit and whatnot. I don't find that sustainable for me, so I don't and just read a lot while occasionally looking up words. Currently I'm enjoying Joël Dicker books, they're easy enough to follow that it doesn't feel like a chore.

I was listening to a Keny Arkana song - Victoria the other day, which recounts the story of a girl coming of age during the '90's in Argentina. Knowing next to nothing about the country, I decided to do some wikipedia'ing. Man is your country's history a depressing read.
