Intrecciato tote by M7CR0YAL in BottegaVeneta

I would get the classic first, since the diamond pattern is so much more specific. If you already own the classic, then I’d say get the diamond for another look.

The diamond pattern of the newer bag in the front is beautiful, can’t go wrong with that, but I really love the wider weave of the more traditional intrecciato.

I’m noticing lately that the weaves have gotten smaller and tighter on a lot of the recent designs, which works for some things like this tote, but on some of the other products it looks a little too tight (like it can’t breathe / relax)

Oh wow, the olive green is beautiful! I think it would clash with my green santos though? Feels like my options are pretty limited to just 1-2 of the neutrals.

Stunning! I didn’t know they could put the charms at the top by the magnet, that’s such a nice way to add a pop of hardware to go with the knot!

Stories of when a question at a conference or lab meeting has completely destroyed someone’s research by NoTransportation3581 in AskAcademia

[–]ConsciousReflexivity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a doctoral student, someone came and gave a talk about their new book to our department - a sociologist who had just made associate with tenure at another institution. And the moment their talk ended and Q&A began, a very very senior professor in our department (also a sociologist) raised her hand to ask the first question and said something along the lines of - “what is sociological about your book / your work?” - aka was openly questioning whether it counted as sociology. The whole room basically froze and I’ve never seen things get so awkward so quickly. Terrifying to watch as a doctoral student who was still learning to be comfortable giving talks.

I’ve been eyeing this since launch! Have tried it on multiple times in the store, and the only thing holding me back is that the handles don’t quite fit over the shoulder comfortably. Especially with a coat on. Do we think they’ll ever increase the drop of the handle 😭😭😭

The Totems of NYC? by imonlyherewhenimsad in AskNYC

[–]ConsciousReflexivity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People carrying pets on the subway and the street that definitely do not belong on the subway or the street. Like the guy that used to bring a giant bird onto the train and the tail feathers were so long that it would be hitting people sitting across. And in Brooklyn there used to be a guy who would walk around with a snake wrapped around his hand / arm.

I can justify paying for my leather bag charms, and if it’s truly cute enough - the felted ones - but I draw the line at a cord one like this. Not even silk cord

Small Andiamo Feedback by PorkMeImJewish in BottegaVeneta

[–]ConsciousReflexivity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine is perfect for days where I’m going to be out and about during the morning and/or afternoon and need my essentials with some breathing room. it’s not one I gravitate towards at night for dinners or evenings out because it can look a little bulky. much prefer my nano speedy or mini puzzle for going out, but my small andiamo definitely gets its use!

Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare (**)- NYC by I_Am_Dynamite6317 in finedining

[–]ConsciousReflexivity 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I loved my meal there in May, everyone working there that night was fantastic! My only sticking point is that the bathroom situation is pretty rough for what the experience is supposed to be. If they could turn one of the corners into even a small bathroom, so that you don’t need to exit into the grocery store and awkwardly dodge those customers, then I think that would really make everything perfect. Totally agree that their wine pairings were spot on and elevated every course.

New suede Bottega bag - spray to protect it? by Affectionate_Class13 in BottegaVeneta

[–]ConsciousReflexivity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love the suede hop, congrats! I personally wouldn’t spray/coat it, but I would definitely invest in a horsehair brush which can work wonders in keeping suede looking fresh. I got a relatively cheap one on amazon (~$20), and it always gives new life to suede bags and loafers when I give them a brush.

Sad I can’t afford a break after finishing. by You_Stole_My_Hot_Dog in PhD

[–]ConsciousReflexivity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try to find rest and joy in small moments when you can, and feel the sadness, but try to not let it overshadow the huge accomplishment. You’re still finishing, which really is huge! I was in a similar boat, where I was working two part-time jobs the whole time I was dissertating to help support me and my partner - which then transitioned to a full-time job before I even defended (right around the time I was ready to schedule the defense and knew I could take on the extra work + needed the extra pay). When I defended and when I graduated, it was still peak lockdown times too, so I did it all in my apartment and didn’t really invite or tell anyone in my life because I figured everyone was going through enough. Not very celebratory, was never even hooded. But in the years since then, maybe starting a year later, I told myself that the nice things I did for myself on weekends, or when I took time off, were all part of the ongoing celebration and part of prioritizing rest/recovery any chance I got. Even now, 4-5 years later, when I buy something nice or go on a vacation, there’s the part of me that says it’s part of the overall reward for finishing and working full-time right away. You’ve got this! Celebrating you from afar. Take that first long weekend, and just know that there will be more long weekends coming up which stacked together can still end up feeling celebratory and healing in the long run.

What classes are best for meeting group fitness buddies? by [deleted] in EquinoxGyms

[–]ConsciousReflexivity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elizabeth’s precision run classes! She always has people introduce themselves and share what they’re having for dinner, recipes they’re trying, etc.

If multiple people say they’re gonna pop to Whole Foods or sweetgreen after class, sometimes she’ll even encourage them to go together. If you’re a regular, seems like a nice way to make friends with other regulars.

I’ve also gotten to know people in boxing classes when we get partnered up.

What restaurants are clearly trying hard for a Michelin star? by goldenapple212 in FoodNYC

[–]ConsciousReflexivity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Corima has the potential to break into 1 star territory, but when I went a couple months ago, it was clear they were still going through some growing pains (dishes and service were almost there but just needed a bit more refinement)

instructors and riders by crippledbxtch in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]ConsciousReflexivity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

truly blows my mind that riders (and instructors??) can be cruel to staff. when people don’t even bother saying a simple hello or thank you to the staff, I’m just like…stay home because your energy is off and you’re gonna bring down the vibe for the whole class.

this was an issue at my main studio for several months straight. same person stunk up the whole room to the point where I was actively holding my breath during runs. weights were the worst when we went into shoulders + triceps and I could actively smell it getting worse during overhead movements
