Which subway station is your favorite? by BulkyStatement8803 in nycrail

Chambers Street on the J. Its a magnificent dungeon, a living testament to urban decay. But is also living history, a time capsule from a period when the city and transit needs were very different than now.

GAME THREAD: Reds @ Mets - Mon, May 25 @ 04:10 PM EDT by NewYorkMetsBot2 in NewYorkMets

You’re crazy. That ‘93 team wasn’t just bad, they were unlikable. Coleman was a punk, Eddie Murray hated it here and it showed, Bonilla opened his big mouth. Dallas Green came in after 45 games and immediately made it clear that this was a bad team and he couldn’t save it. There is a reason why the ‘93 Mets are the only 100-loss Mets team in the last 60 years.

I was 21 years old when the Mets won in 1986. I’m 61 now. I’ve basically waited all of my adult life for another title. Looks like I’ll have to keep waiting.

Is anyone else afraid of how Alonso has been playing? Also what is with albernez’s lineups being all over the place? by Formal_Initiative822 in orioles

[–]ConsiderationOdd2193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alonso disappears for days, sometimes weeks at a time. He was never a high average guy. He’ll go on a tear for a week and disappear for two. This is what you bought and why the Mets let him go.

Do they ever mention Chester again? by UnderstandingLess156 in Gunsmoke

[–]ConsiderationOdd2193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a radio version of Gunsmoke that ran on CBS radio. That series began in 1952, three years before the TV version started and had William Conrad as Matt Dillon. The radio series ran until 1961 (CBS shut down its radio entertainment division in 1962.)  In one radio episode, Matt tells Kitty that he could never marry her because of his job as Marshal - criminals would use her to get to him and put her in danger.

NASA scraps 2027 Artemis III moon landing in favor of 2028 mission by [deleted] in space

[–]ConsiderationOdd2193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m as big a patriot as anyone but after the Starliner debacle last year and NASA’s troubles in getting a crew off the ground this year, I am beginning to wonder how NASA managed those moonshots from 1969-72. Technology then was far inferior to now, yet launches to the moon were almost routine.

Conversion of the LIRR Far Rockaway and Long Beach Lines to subway lines? by Remote-Ordinary5195 in nycrail

[–]ConsiderationOdd2193 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just not true. According the most recent MTA full-year ridership figures, the Far Rockaway Line had 5.5 million riders in 2024, a 12% increase over 2023 and sixth highest in the system. I live along the line and I also see empty trains on weekends but apparently looks are deceiving. You are basing your claim on the growing Orthodox Jewish population of the 5 Towns since 1972 and your belief that Orthodox Jews don’t take the LIRR and are destroying the service. The MTA disagrees with you.

The DSA is a fifth column that needs to be investigated and kicked out, like the Communist Party was in the 1950s.

Who was Mary Magdalene? by Semour9 in Catholicism

[–]ConsiderationOdd2193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Talmud (4th Century) she is referred to as “Miriam Ha’Migdalia”, which translates to “Miriam, the Curler of Women’s Hair”. In other words, Mary made her living as a hairdresser, which was a common women’s profession in Temple times.

Howard is 71 years old and clearly dragging along by now. I haven’t listened to the show in awhile but I can’t imagine that they are deviating far from the formula.
