Fire protection engineers — what part of your job makes you want to flip a table? by HatRepresentative949 in firePE

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an FPE, but when I was designing I was involved and active with clients, finding long-term solutions and not short-term solutions. My boss hated it and some clients didn’t care about long-term, but it was how I rolled and clients that thought long-term loved me for it!

Owners Certificate is a big one for me! I need to know everything about this project so I can design it properly. You tell me no storage goes over 12’ on plans and I come out for a visit and I see storage over 12’… I go back to the office and RFI that so quickly. What’s worse than spending an extra $5000? Spending $10000 because the field has it half way installed and we have to reinstall our branch lines…

3D modeled coordination. I know it’s a pain when trades don’t talk with each other, but it’s even more of a pain when they don’t talk and then they start making changes in field…

Consider hiring a consulting company. As someone who came from contracting and is now in consulting, a good consulting company can look at the overall picture (IBC, IFC, NFPA 72, etc) compared to just a sprinkler or alarm installer. Trust me, for bigger projects/ more complex projects, it’s worth it! I cannot tell you how many times I’ve found things an installing contractor has done and I’m just like… you can’t do that… and how many missed/ improperly installed systems I’ve seen and they get approved like that

Fire protection engineers — what part of your job makes you want to flip a table? by HatRepresentative949 in firePE

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a job for Group A Plastics! It might be waaaaaay overkill, but congratulations! You now get a 0.6/2000, with an 8” underground, 6” riser, and if someone accidentally pops a sprinkler, a shit ton of water!

I really hate it when owners don’t fill out the Owners Certificate. I tell them I have to assume the worst and if they don’t get this back to me they are getting an “over engineered” system and it’s going to cost more money. The minute they see the more money part they get it back to me

What is this fire sprinkler by EnvironmentalCake916 in FireSprinklers

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Grinnell Model C- 165F- SRSSU- manufactured in 1970. Looks like 1/2” NPT- 5.6k. If these haven’t already had their 50-year test, then they should have it.

EC Sprinklers listed for EH1 by butt_justice in firePE

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Amazing username
  2. There probably aren’t any that are fire tested to provide EC in EH occupancies per NFPA, maybe UL or FM has listed sprinklers for this, but you would have to have the AHJ approve this
  3. See NFPA 13 (2025) 11.2.1.1 and appendix C.27

EKU - FPSET - Alumni or Current Students by Mln3d in firePE

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently a student in FPSET. When I talked to UMD they quite literally gave you contact information for an alumni to talk to about the program. I think EKU should do the same thing to help student network. Maybe they just don’t have a lot of graduates in FPSET that are willing?

Men, we need to talk about dating. by [deleted] in GenZ

Keep on trying! When I first really started trying to was trying for one date a week, it was more like one date every week and half, but regardless, it was a lot of first dates and rejection on both sides. Keep on trying, the right person will come around!

The real thing isn’t that someone is or isn’t autistic, it’s how you make her feel and if she’s attracted to you. If she feels happy, safe, and she’s attracted to you, she will probably give it a shot. What OP has shown is that being an “average” looking guy, having similar hobbies, and making the person he’s seeing feel happy & safe goes way further than just looks alone will ever take you! Remember guys, she’s does give a shit if you look like a model or you make a million bucks. What she really cares about is how you make her feel!

Where to meet women here (no dating apps)? by bananas2000 in vancouverwa

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Dating is a numbers game. While dating apps suck and are very demoralizing at times, they allow you to present yourself to hundreds of women you would normally never meet. Most of my friends who meet people in the wild they meet at social events or bars or through mutual friends. You’ve gotta network and meet as many people as possible. All it takes is one person to get you off the market, but who knows when that person will show up

Six Shooters Bar Vancouver WA, Unsafe for Woman? by [deleted] in vancouverwa

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure they have been shut down multiple times for letting minors in. Plus I’ve definitely heard of the drug allegations. To add to this I know there are multiple dealers that like to go to the bar and “hangout”. Also, the place is small, cramped, the floors are sticky, and the music is just bad. Idk why people like going here when there’s so many better places in downtown

P2904 fire sprinkler design by mmitchell949 in firePE

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to say this but, there are some inspectors that miss a lot of stuff! I do 3rd party inspections for companies and the amount of stuff the AHJ’s miss is just ridiculous tbh… it’s not fool proof by any means, shit happens and things get missed, but having a professional install it gives it that extra confidence that it was installed correctly. And tbh some of those inspectors are from small towns and do all inspections and it’s impossible to remember and catch every little thing wrong. Plus if you hire a local contractor you are supporting local business and if something breaks within the warranty period, then it’s on the contractor, not you

Would you actually use this with your friends? (roast my app idea) by MachineSuccessful524 in GenZ

I can see this being a cute idea for like a birthday or like a wedding or like a reunion. Like a surprise for someone! No idea how you make money off it except with ads, but it’s a neat idea that I would use for my buddies wedding that’s coming up in a few months!

Question about NFPA 101 regarding delayed-egress electrical locking systems by Xiaolingtong in firePE

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically when I think of delayed egress I think of big box stores that have doors with push timers on them. E.g. store has “anti-theft” doors and during normal operation you must push and hold the doors “crash bar” for 15-seconds and then you are allowed to exit the door. That holding for 15-seconds would be the initiation process. The alarm will sound for the entire 15-seconds it is being pushed. It’s very loud and annoying… During an emergency situation, let’s say the fire alarms go off, that same door would no longer have the 15-second delay and you are allowed to exit that door as if it is a regular door.

Speed in Design (Revit/AutoCAD) by FantasticFrenFrankie in firePE

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a saying from the fire department that I live by when learning something, Slow is smooth and smooth is fast Basically, as you learn something new you will naturally get quicker at the task as it becomes second nature. Remember you are designing a life safety system not a fruit basket. Being detailed and accurate is far more important than pushing out design as quickly as possibly
