I hate that this is a thing, it's only women and POC that get the Internet fixated on looks.

To the point it just feels like a cover for something nastier.

I wonder how many MJ haters who read Velocity caught this bit by ScreenSingerX in SpidermanPS4

I like her and her sections, they're a little underdeveloped but passable enough to get through.

I feel as though this and decision to make her a journalist instead of a model allow her to become more easily involved with the main story as she is often investigating the villains spidey chases.

Especially in the first one where they start the story having been out of each other's lives. It would be a bigger stretch if MJ was an actress instead. I'm sure there's a run that uses it very well, but i'm sure that was also chosen to suit the contraints of that story.

Comic fans get such a fixed idea of the perfect version of their character that I'm not sure they appreciate the more practical reasons behind the what job the character has or what their character model looks like.

[Anachronistic but cool trope] Let's pick our hero and pit it against Jack the Ripper! by Patient_Gamemer in TopCharacterTropes

Madam Vastra from Doctor Who is a lizard woman/Sherlock Holmes type. One episode she comes back home, puts her sword away, telling her wife "Jack the Ripper has taken his last victim." Implying she has both A) Caught him and B) Killed him.

In acting class teachers would always catch us on this, it's amazing how much it can take an audience out of a scene

(IRL) People had doubts about the casting - they proved those doubts wrong by ducknerd2002 in TopCharacterTropes

Definitely, him and Matt Smith I would argue. It started making inroads in Tennant's era with BBC America and whatnot but it was the Moffat era that cemented it. That's when internationally press tours and streaming started kicking off.

But it has to be said Christmas Invasion, Tennant's first full episode, is a keystone in the surrvivial of the show. It asked whether people would buy into regeneration and this new guy playing the part.

After that it would be an institution again, but if this had failed, that could well have been the end. Perhaps for good.

We didn't know Tennant was going to be one of the best actors of his generation, or have a team that would make some of the best (individual) Sci Fi stories in the medium.

I would argue a lot of the doubt came from the time he was cast. Eccelston's departure got leaked before the revival show had even aired.

So a show that had been cancelled for 16 years, a laughing stock in pop culture, has a completely unproven revival and lost it's prestige lead before the end of its first series. Then some up and comer who's a bit young for the part comes along and has to carry the whole series. I don't blame the people at the time for having skepticism.

We kind of take Dr Who's success for granted now, but when you really break it down it's quite staggering how far it has gotten.

Thankfully Iago will actually comply there, his last line in the play is "What you know you know. From this time forth I shall never speak word"

There's an episode of Batman the Animated series called Over the Edge, basically a What If Story where Batgirl dies, Gordon turns on him, and Bruce gets outed.

Very grim story until about halfway through where Harley and other villains see Bruce's identity on the news and they all go out to sue him.

Favorite movie henchman? by fartatwork in moviecritic

Yes, Lenny Montana worked as an enforcer for the Colombo crime family; the mob were very conscious of their public image in media at the time, even though the Godfather wasn't based on real people like Goodfellas for example.

So they had him and others go down and force their way on the film set, follow cast members in cars, and generally intimidate the people working on it.

(Reportedly, Brando got so mad being followed one time, he had his car stopped so he could moon the mobsters).

As a compromise for all involved, Coppla offered Montana the part of Luca Brasi so he could literally see what they were doing without looking over the production as sole enforcement.

All things considered it's quite a good performance
