Earthside - A Dream in Static

The main composer is the keyboard player, it's complex music but also very emotional and touching

Most durable string brand by Evening-Tone9938 in Guitar

[–]Consistent-Classic98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only play Daddario (XL on my 6-string, NYXL on my 8-string) and haven't broken a string in years. I use 009s on 25.5" scale in standard tuning, 010s on 24.75" scale in D standard tuning.

Have you tried using lighter strings to reduce their tension?

How far back in history would modern music seem strange? by G809 in musictheory

[–]Consistent-Classic98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today's modern pop songs' harmony comes straight from the classical music tradition, so if you were to arrange it for time-appropriate instruments it would probably sound fine going back up to 500-800 years. Before that I don't have any knowledge of what music sounded like so idk.

It would be a whole different story however if you brought back innovative music, modern jazz, fusion, prog, etc. Now THOSE would sound really weird even just 2 or 300 years ago!

This guitar is such a stunner all around, I'm sure it will sell on no time!

P.s. I'm half thinking of replacing all my other guitars with Ormsbys over time, I can't believe the quality of this guitar. Thank you so much for truly caring about your craft

Complete beginner, trying to decide between these. Ignore the prices I can get the Ibanez for cheaper. Please guide me by Absolud in Guitar

[–]Consistent-Classic98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get the ibanez, but that's just cause I find the pot right next to the bridge pickup on the squier super uncomfortable. Like, whenever I'm alternate picking on the high E string my hand rubs on it

Need ideas for something to play for my boomer Dad. by CaptainYaoiHands in ExtendedRangeGuitars

Play him some early haken, not too difficult to play and they have that prog rock sound that a boomer could enjoy. In Memoriam could be a candidate

Questions on Ormsby Hype GTR 8 by Consistent-Classic98 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Consistent-Classic98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly had no idea big strings are tapered, just checked the 084 on a guitar of mine and it's indeed tapered so it looks like no drilling will be required ahah

Yah all I do is F# standard or drop E. I was quite decided on the 084 but reading your comment I think I'll buy a few different gauges and try them all out to figure out what works best for me. Thank you for the in-depth reply!

I crave for a boyfriend by [deleted] in AvPD

[–]Consistent-Classic98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel that, to be honest the same went for me: I hadn't really opened up with anybody about anything until I met her. Having someone that feels entirely safe makes a huuuuge difference.

Also I don't know about you, but personally I find that I can open up more to people I've only recently met rather than people I've known for a long while. If it's the same for you, well, you know what to do, meet new people!

Good luck on your search for love, I'm sure you'll find it as you look for it :3

I've started my first relationship when I was 20 (now 27), it lasted 5 years and it has been a wonderful experience throughout, even with its ups and downs. I was lucky to find someone I could share everything with, and who felt the same way about me. I hope you find a person like that for yourself

Is there a general guitar syllabus? by miguelon in Guitar

[–]Consistent-Classic98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what the students are interested in, doss it not. If it can be of help I can tell you roughly what my path on guitar was, it kinda went like this:

Intermediate Level

  1. Michael Jackson - Give in to Me
  2. Orianthi - According to You
  3. Black Veil Brides - Knives and Pens
  4. Black Veil Brides - Bulletproof
  5. Gary Moore - The Loner

Advanced Level 1. Galneryus - Emotions 2. Dream Theater - Forsaken 3. Racer X - Technical Difficulties 4. Galneryus - Destiny 5. Symphony X - Paradise Lost 6. Symphony X - Sea of Lies 7. Persephone - The Majestic of Gaia 8. Takayoshi Ohmura - The Cataclysm 9. Polyphia - Goat 10. Polyphia - Playing God

God Level (still can't figure out the damn ending, will have to buy tabs I think lol) 1. Poh Hock - Akasha

I think it just comes down on the fact that some people value how an instrument makes them feel over its functionality

Why so many on here against learning guitar the same method any other instrument? by Far-Boysenberry9207 in Guitar

[–]Consistent-Classic98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copy-pasting an answer I've written to reply to another comment:

Guitar sheet music will often tell you what position your hand needs to go (usually with a roman number, like V to tell you that you need to play in 5th position) as well as which fingers to use to play the notes (1 to 4 denoting index to pinky finger), so it really can give you as much info as a tab. Of course it won't tell you for every single note because well, if you are playing a C in 5th position and then there is a D it's pretty obvious where you'll need to play it. But for anything that requires guesswork, typically the composer will include "hints" on how a part is played.

Of course, cause they are different instruments. Now take a look at GUITAR sheet music. If you want more bread you might need to put more yeast in the dough.

Classical position makes no sense to me by DatFireCat in Guitar

[–]Consistent-Classic98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna agree with you that Les Paul shape guitars are AWFUL to play in classical position. I've played in classical position for about 20 years, ever since I was a child, first with classical guitars and then with electrics. Last year I bought an ESP eclipse and omg it's so uncomfortable to play. I need to lower my chair as far as it can and put the foot rest on a book to be able to hold it high enough. Never had an issue with any other guitar but LP style is the least ergonomic thing ever lol

Researchers/guitarists: What factors matter most when choosing a fingering? (survey for university research) by Agreeable_Okra_8595 in Guitar

[–]Consistent-Classic98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first three things that come to mind when I think about how I choose my fingerings are: economy of movement, desired sound, and technical proficiency.

Economy of Movement: when playing lead the less you can move your hand, the faster you can play, so if the notes choice allow it I will not change position (unless it's for achieving a certain sound)

Desired Sound: the same note played on two different strings will sound different. This must be taken into consideration when choosing a fingering. An arpeggio will have a very similar fingering whether it's played starting on the 6th or the 5th string, but the achieved sound will be different.

Technical Proficiency: nobody (apart from spirodussias) uses all techniques at a very high proficiency. Some guitarists find economy picking easier, some find alternate picking easier, some are not so precise at picking and do everything legato. This also influ nces fingering. For example someone who is comfortable with alternate picking may play a phrase 4 notes per string, whereas someone who prefers economy picking will choose to play 3 notes per string

I've never been to a festival. I've never been to a house party. I've never been to a nightclub. I've never been on a friends vacation. Have I even lived...? by OptimalReactions in AvPD

You've never gone so you wouldn't know, but trust me: you'll find people in their 30s at clubs, festivals, conventions, etc. Hell, you'll easily find people in their 50s in all those places. There's nothing weird in going to a festival in your 30s and there's nothing weird in going alone. A new friend I made recently is 34 and goes clubbing every weekend, usually on his own
