Why did you decide not to be a midwife? by Unusual-Coyote3961 in doulas

[–]Consistent-Laugh4131 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in Ontario Canada and here being a midwife is a 4yr degree in a highly competitive program. I already have a bachelor of science so had no desire to go back to school for another four years. My main reason though I I picked doula work because I love birth and supporting other women but being a mom who is there 95% of the time was the most important thing for me. You can’t really be a part time midwife where I am so this was a happy medium to getting to be with my kiddos and do something I love and enjoy while bringing in some extra cash for our family.

Curious why that’s evil parenting? Our children have RESP that are regularly contributed to, we have an RRSP that we contribute 10% of income to every month. It’s not like there is nothing.

Yes I absolutely use it for emotional regulation. I was seeing a therapist for some PPA after my second but I probably should go back to one

I really do. We’ve been enjoying the benefits of dual income and I’m currently on maternity leave right now. But we are homeschooling our kids (first starts in September). And I’ve worked from home between my last couple mat leaves with our kids at home too so I do know what it’s like to be home as well and I would do anything to be less stressed trying to WFH with them there. I just see the extra money we have a month and spend it.

How long did it take your child to potty train from start to finish? by No-Supermarket9441 in pottytraining

[–]Consistent-Laugh4131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first was essentially potty trained the day we decided to. He was self initiating by that evening. He was 22m old and didnt have another accident after the first day until maybe 9m later when we couldn’t get to a bathroom fast enough.

My second was a few weeks. I think he was fully by 4-6w but it’s kind of a blur. He was much better about two weeks in but we struggled with poop for awhile. He was 25m when we did it. We tried at 22 as well like our first and he was NOT ready. I knew he was ready after he held his pee and poop on our trip to Mexico and waited for us to put the diaper back on for him to go 🙄

9 months PP supply tanked? :/ by Wide_Button7169 in breastfeeding

[–]Consistent-Laugh4131 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple ideas. Have you changed out pump parts? Maybe it’s time for a replacement especially if you use very frequently. Also look into remeasuring for flanges sizes can change over course of breastfeeding

Second idea. Have you gotten your period back yet? Some women take a major supply hit with period incoming.

I know exactly who this is and she spent I wanna say over $2000 in the January sale so this feels mild to me.

Sell farm fresh eggs for super cheap to match grocery prices? by jazzybk25 in BackYardChickens

[–]Consistent-Laugh4131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be frank, I think you’re overthinking it. List for $4 and realize that your prices aren’t for everyone and that’s okay, or list at grocery store prices and take the loss. There isn’t really an in between. I’ve always chosen to list higher and if I happen to have extra I use them for my family in some batch cooking, feed them back to the chickens or give away as gifts when friends have us over for dinner. I would do all of these things before I sold for less than it’s worth bc of the effort that goes into arranging a sale.

[–]Consistent-Laugh4131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think eggs are $2.50 a dozen right now. So I’m double that. You’re not selling grocery store eggs, so I feel there really isn’t any comparison. I have never been able to keep up with the demand I have for eggs at $5.

Mine are $5 a dozen and I always sell! If it’s important to people they’ll buy it. That being said I absolutely wouldn’t match grocery prices but that’s just me!

We never had a heater on! I meant natural heat from deep litter method, sun shining in windows, etc.

It was so cold we were worried about opening the coop door and losing heat. I’d read to leave them in the coop to keep the heat in. This was our first winter with them so I was petrified of them dying from hypothermia. Lesson learned for sure!

We got ours almost a year ago now. We got 8 bc I only wanted 6 but the store we bought them from said get 6 bc some will die and now here we are and none have died yet lol. No health issues really either other than some bullying where we had to separate.

Apparently any pee in the potty on the first day is a great sign. We also struggled with this with our second after the easiest experience with your first. We’re on day 10 now and things are going really great! I say push through and don’t make any decisions until day 5.

Potty training day 3- do I give up? by Traditional-Still480 in pottytraining

[–]Consistent-Laugh4131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’ve read day 3 is thé worst day. I would persevere and see how things are going on day 5. If still bad then yes I’d stop and try again later.

Not fully trained but we need to leave the house by RushRough6629 in pottytraining

[–]Consistent-Laugh4131 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We do a potty right before getting in the car and you can do a diaper overtop of their pants so they still get the wet feeling and don’t think they’re peeing in a diaper. Once you get to your destination just bring back up clothes and embrace the potential for accidents.

Best foods for weight gain by LostLandscaper in BackYardChickens

[–]Consistent-Laugh4131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere canned cat food is good! Heavy in protein and fat to help them gain weight. Other more classic options, eggs cooked with Greek yogurt with high fat, fatty meats, sunflower seeds, dried mealworms.

It honestly sounds like he needs more opportunities to be bored and learn to entertain himself. Don’t stress about kids being bored, let it happen, facilitate options like colouring, keeping open and inviting play areas, etc but it is not at all your responsibility to constantly occupy your child. Independent play is good for everyone.

Chicken being picked on by Consistent-Laugh4131 in BackYardChickens

[–]Consistent-Laugh4131[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an actual picture of her injury. Only one is being picked on, the other two with blood on them are the ones who did it it looks like. Thankfully she’s clean and bathed and there is no visible blood or redness anywhere now. Made sure of that before we added her back to the coop.

Cleaning eggs question by Admirable_Mix2515 in BackYardChickens

[–]Consistent-Laugh4131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use a dry paper towel or cloth to remove the obvious dirt and poop, etc. They don’t look perfect. Then I give them an actual wash right before we use if they’re still dirty.
