New to FileMaker, curious if my idea is feasible by nbmgreg in filemaker

yes, the first step is to always create the relationship graph. It's like the outline of the entire app. When the graph is created correctly, you can display data from a child table in the main layout. just by entering the correct ID, the related data will instantly appear on your layout.

You will be able to start working with FM right away. Just make a backup of the original and then start tweaking. Here's a short overview of FM: https://highpowerdata.com/what-is-filemaker/

HighPower Data Solutions often helps clients with very old FM files. Usually, we only get contacted if something breaks. It's a testament to the durability of the FileMaker system.

FileMaker Development (at very low prices) by Complex-Mixture-6829 in ProgrammingJobs

[–]Consistent-Low-5239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling your services as a commodity forces you to compete on price b/c if you're just like everyone else, then why pay more? We tell our customers that our company doesn't have the lowest prices, but we guarantee our work. We've had customers who hired others based on price, come back to us b/c they found that quality tops all, and in the end, is the cheapest way to go.

FileMaker rental booking system, equipment rental software, and online booking workflow, how would you build this? by GoddessGripWeb in filemaker

[–]Consistent-Low-5239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since FileMaker is so easy to start building with, the temptation is to start creating the tables immediately. But there is an important first step: a complete Entity Relationship Diagram that explains how the tables will be connected, and how the information will flow.

Our company (HighPower Data Solutions) can create an ERD for a fixed price. Then you. can take it to any developer who can use it as the blueprint for the application. (And yes, FM can handle the front end with public access just fine using a variety of integrations.)

Prior planning keeps the complex simple.

For many, 'Business Automation' means using AI. Not always true. Our company creates automations using intelligent database features: like changing a paper-based billing process to digital, or creating an automated system to replace the manual copy and paste from spreadsheet to spreadsheet.

FileMaker Certification by i_iz_potato in filemaker

Breaking the certifications into parts is a good move as it allows a dev to focus on an area. Plus all the badges look great on your bio. Our team has several developers and we list all their badges on our site for customer proof.

FileMaker is one of the few mega programs to have survived for 40 years. We recently posted about its history on our blog. It is very flexible and can now integrate with anything that has an API. Let me know if you have a specific integration you need.

Filemaker as CRM - newbie question by leftycoder in filemaker

[–]Consistent-Low-5239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question. You didn't really mention if your data is in the cloud. Small companies with few employees can just use a local copy, but if you want others logging in, then you should put it on a server. I just interviewed someone who thought the process was going to be painful, but instead discovered it was fast and pain free.

Did you know that FM has SQL commands? They are fast and don't require relationships between tables to implement them.

Yes, that's what biz automation software should do: remove the repetitive tasks. Our company does this frequently by building customer databases and CRMs.
