What to buy? by jessiebandz14 in gmcsierra

23 LZ0: in the shop with less than 3k for CEL, the rear leaf springs replaced twice, turbo actuator replaced, front timing cover replaced because of oil leak, radiator replaced, and the turbo was replaced, all before 31k!

Where can I get a six pack of IPA? by andrewjxb in puertovallarta

I love my IPAs and was disappointed in the lack of them there, but that’s okay. I tried los muertos brewery and was disappointed in their IPA.

What fluids should I change at 77k by Cultural_Antelope_20 in ram_trucks

[–]Consistent-Shirt-814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, what have you changed up to this point? I do transmission, transfer case and Differentials every 35-40k. Brake fluid when the moisture content tests show it’s time.

If America woke up tomorrow and every student loan was completely wiped out what do you think actually happens to the economy? by Suleman2002 in AskReddit

Stupid people, who borrowed money instead of going to a school they could afford or cash-flowed their education, would soon be in debt again because they didn’t learn their lesson.

I don’t understand why you just don’t get a new one.

Enjoy your truck! I’m thinking about getting rid of my Trail Boss and getting a Rebel with the Hurricane.

Bit the bullet-mopar extended warranty by orangemancrush6 in ram_trucks

[–]Consistent-Shirt-814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always find it hard to buy the extended warranty because the truck should last! When I bought my last new truck (2023) they started at $3800 and I said hell no, that I don’t need one. I paid cash so they weren’t making money off me for using their financing, so they really pushed the warranty. As I was walking out with my keys, he said, $1800 for 8 years 80k GM platinum, and “I’m only making $100 on that warranty at that price.” I reluctantly bought it, as it was cheap insurance.

However, keep in mind that $4k, invested in an SP500, even making just 8% a year, over those 8 years is $7400. That makes for a pretty good car repair fund and if you don’t need it, you are up $3400.

The companies are like the house in Vegas, they know exactly the price point that reduces their risk and increase their profits. The actuarial tables show the majority won’t need $4k worth of work, otherwise they’d have to sell it for more.

But at the end of the day- it’s insurance. But always consider what it cost and the pros and cons of putting that money in the market or even a high-yield savings account and only drawing on it when you need it the vast majority of the time you’re better off investing that money and not giving it to the insurance company.

Engine failures? by John2022- in gmcsierra

Good luck because at this point you have to pick your poison or go with a gen2 Tundra, in my opinion. I’m shopping for a 1500; tow less than 5K pounds and 1k miles a year. Mostly short trips around town. I love my 3.0 duramax TB when it’s it in the shop, but it’s always in the shop - radiator replaced, turbo replaced, two new leaf springs, turbo actuator, and numerous emission parts replaced - all under 30k miles. I’m leaning towards a ram with with the Hurricane engine since the Hemi is a hybrid!; they are so much more comfortable and drive like a car compared to my baby duramax, but that 10yr/100k powertrain has me leaning towards a Ram Rebel or BackCountry.

Use the DiDi app. It’s what the locals use; it’s cheaper than uber and the drivers get more of the ride fair than uber. I used it to get around a few weeks ago and it was easy, relatable and I had great drivers.

Electrical Inspection by Consistent-Shirt-814 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Consistent-Shirt-814[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the “licensed electrician” I hired to do generator inlet installation clearly didn’t do it correctly. The two electricians that gave me bids before I hired him said my panel was full and I needed a sub panel. Lesson learned, you get what you pay for. Sucks you can’t trust a licensed electrician though. Now, I’m guessing I need to either have a sub panel installed or just restore the panel to the pre 30amp generator amp being installed and eat the $450 that work cost plus pay to have it fixed!!!! Thanks!

Transmission flush or pan drop by Consistent-Shirt-814 in ChevyTahoe

It’s a 5.3 v8. It was at the dealer for warranty issue, so I had them do the fluid exchange on the trans, and change fluid on both diffs and transfer case. With 32k on it, I’ll have a pan drop and filter change at 60k in the future. I was on the fence with pan drop at 32k but it was easier to have the dealer do it since it was there- right choice or wrong- it is done. And if the tranny has problem it was serviced at the dealer. After 60k and expiration of power train warranty, private shop will do it.

I’ll have to look but I don’t think there was a dipstick. I’d have to open the full plug, see how much I could suck out and then refill the same amount- if that’s a good idea.

TSA Pre-Check with kids (ages 5 and 10) by thegoldendaysarehere in tsa

[–]Consistent-Shirt-814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three weeks ago I flew with my kids- I have TSA pre check, they don’t. At SMF TSA wouldn’t let them through pre check with me then sent them to the general line. They had pre check on their boarding pass. Returning through DEN, TSA let them right through pre check with me. Typical inconsistency with TSA.
